I just filled out our census and popped it back in the mail.

Can you imagine the Duggar Family? There wouldn't even be enough spaces for them

I got a letter to tell me the census is coming. I got the census paperwork. Do I get another letter to tell me to fill in the census and then a final letter to tell me to mail it?

I looked at it again, and there is a space that says to call them if you need to add more names. I guess they send a second sheet, which makes sense since places like prisons, nursing homes, etc. also have to fill out the forms.

Here is the Census answer to your question. I know in 2000, the return rate in Maryland was 74%, but in my county it was only about 65%. The national rate was 72%. The more people that return their forms, the more money that will be saved. Census workers will visit homes multiple times to try and get the form completed.

The Census Bureau estimates for each percentage point of the population that does not return a questionnaire during the 2010 Census, it costs approximately $75 million dollars to have field representatives make these personal visits to get their information. If the mail return rate increases, then the nonresponse followup workload will decrease reducing the cost of the census.

Our "multiple contact" mailing strategy was developed to get the highest mail return rate possible. Our studies have shown that mailing a letter telling you that a questionnaire is on the way and a postcard reminding you to send it in, increases the mail return rate. We have found that the second mailing, or replacement mailing, increases the rate of mail return by some 7-10% and eliminates the need to send census workers to many homes, thereby saving millions of taxpayer dollars.

Places like prisons, dormitories, etc. don't receive forms in the mail. They are actually visited by census workers.

Yep, I got a post card today too. Now, I have to remember to mail my census form back -- haven't done that yet.

They don't. You are only required to fill in the blue box that asks how many people live in your home. Nothing more, nothing less.

I got a card in the mail today saying I should have received it and to fill it out and send it back. So essentially yeah but both are in one note.

Really guys, come on. I am NOT trying to be snarky or mean here, really I am not, so please don't be offended but, REALLY?

Do you not file taxes? Register your kids for school? License your car? Own a checking account or a credit card? Order things through the mail?

How is filling out a census form with name, address, number of people, peoples' names, and birthdates "putting your info out there?? SO MUCH MORE of your personal info is already floating around in cyberspace and in government records.. I really don't think filling out a census form is cause for concern. All of this info is SO readily accessible to just about anyone with a computer and a little free time anyway.

Please don't sweat the small stuff.
