OMG, I can't believe this story.

I know that both my DH and I worked as Census workers this spring.

I have thought for a while now that any door-to-door work would be dangerous. It's not like the 1950's anymore when towns were smaller and people used to know their neighbors and watch out the window for each other. Nowadays, you never know what wacko is on the other side of the door you are knocking on.

Likewise, I don't like opening my door to strangers. The alleged UPS man or the gas meter man may be a rapist in disguise, waiting to push his way in. There has got to be better ways than going door-to-door nowadays.

i guess i'm more surprised that this is actually the first time i've heard of this. i'm surprised more people aren't killed doing door-to-door jobs. people are crazy.

My guess is that he stumbled too close to a meth lab or a pot field, and someone decided that he was really with the DEA. There are some very shady characters operating in and around in that particular national forest area.

My mom told me about this story earlier this evening. My sister works for the Census bureau and used to work in the Indiana/Kentucky-ish office, so this kind of hits home for us. They hire these types of people (PT, door to door) everywhere in the country - I even considered it until I realized it wad door to door. I hope they find the individual who did this. I assume he recorded every house he went to - maybe that will turn up some leads.

An article read said it may be suicide, but it just didn't sound like a suicide to me. Tragic either way! I really do hope they find who did this.

This hatred towards government employees is ridiculous!

The local news is now reporting that the KSP states there are several inaccuracies in the AP story, but would not elaborate. There is more to this story, and what has been reported is not fully accurate.

I found it funny that nobody around here heard a thing when this happened 2 weeks ago.

On the news today they said he had the word FED written on him.

I heard this story this morning on the local news and was shocked that it was not a bigger story when it happened. They did report this morning that he had the word "Fed" on his chest when he was found.

He had battled cancer and had recently gone into remission, according to the news story I heard this morning. Suicide just doesn't seem likely.

It's very sad.

ACK! My best friend is working for the census. She worked in the Spring, verifying addresses (in the field). She's getting more training this week, for the next phase. I never thought of her being in a hazardous job!
