Cellphone messaging UK to US problems

I have a mobile phone (cellphone to you chaps!) with text messaging facility (as you would expect from any modern phone). I have no trouble sending and receiving text messages to people in this country (the UK) and can get text messages from friends in the US. problem is, I send a reply to them (the friends in the US) and they aren't received.

Why's this? Anyone know?

Can you go to their cell carrier web site and send text messages to them via internet? Not the most convenient, I know, but it may work well for you.

Who is your provider there? My fiancee has O2 and his messages come through almost all the time. We have had some problems in the past though. I had one provider where I couldnt get his messages unless he was replying directly to one of mine. I had USCellular at the time and it was a pain.

Yes, I had an older cell phone that was like this too. I had to keep the last text message and reply to that one for it to go through. Good point.

Is your phone set up for international calling? The 1st time I went to America I had to phone my service provider and ask for international calling to be enabled.
