Yet another question about cell phones

I will need a new one in a few months so doing some research.

I don't want an iphone, but it would be nice to have access to the internet. Is it possible to buy a regular phone with access to the web, but not all those apps?

And if so, are there any phones you recommend?

I had an LGEnV3 and yes, I could have had internet on it. I never did but it was capable. I know have the Droid X (LOVE IT) and have apps but not tons. I only download what I want....love to play Angry Birds, it's a fun time killer!
