Are you allowed to bring cell phones onto the ship. We would really like to be able to talk to someone on the afternoon right before we leave port on Saturday. Would we be able to have her call us on our cell phone?

We saw people using their cell phones at various times during our recent 7 day cruise.

You should have no problem using it while still in Port at Port Canaveral. Disney does not discourage use of cell phones, if that is what you were worried about. I guess alot depends on your service plan and where your cruise goes, East, West, etc. to see if you will have service all week. Most people do not get service once we are near the islands.

We did not have service once we got off the coast of south FL. During the eastern cruise, our service did not come back until we reached USVI. I used the free minutes at the internet cafe and touched base with home in between the *no service* areas.

I was able to also use my cell phone while in port at Key West on the boat. I was calling everyone that I knew saying guess where I'm calling you from. lol

my family and i brought cell phones along on the 7 day western and the phones stopped working right after we left key west and didn't come back till about the last day.

On our western cruise last year, my cell phone wouldn't work in St. Maarten, but worked beautifully in St. Thomas. I can't even describe how wonderful it felt to call my office from my verandah!!!! ;) "Did that get filed? You know they have a 4:00 O'clock deadline right? Did you call the department heads on this?? By the way, this margarita tastes great!! Have you ever seen the sunset in the Virgin Islands? " LOL

As previously mentioned, it depends alot on your phone and calling plan, but a rule of thumb is that if you are near U.S. land, eg. St. Thomas, Key West or not too far off the Florida coast, you can probably link up. But in St. Maarten, Castaway Cay and when out to sea, forget it. As for Cozumel, I have no idea. I've been to Cozumel, but when I was there people still used 8-track tape players and BetaMax's ... ;)

I just love the ships whistle. I took my cellphone to the sail away party and called back home to let them hear the whistle blow. When the ship leaves port there is a count down and then the whistle sounds. It also sounds a few more times as the ship is going by all the buildings on it's way out to sea. Everyone home thought it was cool . Even though they couldn't be there to see us off, to them it seemed like they were right there, standing on the shore waving goodbye as they were able to hear the horn and then a few minutes later could see the ship sail by on the internet. Technology sure has come a long way.

I called my Mom,Sister and Sister-In Law while we were leaving Port, It was nice to check in and describe the excitement going on around me. It was also convenient when we got back to Port to call while we were waiting to disembark and let family know that we had arrived back safetly.

I assume you meant eastern cruise. I'm on Sprint PCS and we were able to call home from St. Thomas too. It was about 75 cents/minute. Much cheaper than ship to shore rates.
