Does anyone know if cell phones work in Nassau? I know from experience that the payphones in Nassau are a joke to get to work - but then again that was 3 years ago. Perhaps technology has advance there?!?

my cell phone worked everywhere on the cruise. T-Mobile is my cell company. Hope that helps.

Wow! Everywhere?! Even in the middle of the ocean?! That's amazing... :p :p (My take is it worked at all port of calls, right?)

T-Mobile, Cingular, and some AT&T use GSM technology, which is prevalent across most of the world (unlike CDMA and TDMA). Although, you may need to get an activation code for your phone from your service provider prior to the trip.

I use ATT Wireless and it did not work in Nassau. I was able to get a signal but it was disabled for use by ATT.

I have been on several DCL cruises to Nassau and I've been trying to get it enabled, without any success. I have enabled International Calling and that didn't help. The ATT people finally told me that there is so much cell phone fraud from there that they just keep it blocked. If I really needed to have cell phone access from there, I would have to work with the local cell phone people, which isn't efficient for use for one or two days a year at most.

My last cruise was in October 2002 and it didn't work. I haven't contacted ATT in more than a year so it could be different now.

hope that helps

We have ATT wireless.

St. Maarten - no
St. Thomas - no
Castaway Cay - no
Key West - yes
Cozumel - no
Grand Cayman - yes

On the Eastern, it did not work at sea.
On the Western, I'll know in a month.

(my mom was just at the Western ports with an ATT phone, that's how I know about those)

Sprint worked in St. Thomas too.

No att or cingular at ports either. I tried a bottle with a note in it. Still no reply either. LOL

Earlier this month Crissup and I both tried our Nextel and Verizon cell phones with no luck. It worked at Port Canaveral, I made a call as we sailed off to sea, and that was it, lol. No service in Nassau and no service in Castaway Cay. But the Internet Cafe was great of course!! LOL!

Our service is Verizon, it worked in Port Canaveral, St. Thomas, San Juan on another cruise. Our rule of thumb is if it is a USA territory or island it will work. In fact this past Jan. when we were 2 miles away from docking in San Juan it worked. Shocked us. Didn't try Nassau. When we were in San Juan my husband talked to clients who called him! and they had no idea he wasn't back in Iowa. Kathy
