We are thinking about getting pay as you go cell phones just for Disney. We have very limited phones now so it would cost too much to use those. We found $9.99 phones but the cheapest airtime minutes were $20. So it would cost for 2 phones $60. Anyone have anything cheaper?:yay:

I would recommend AT&T GoPhone with the Unlimited Talk package. This way you pay $1 per day on the days you use it and get unlimited mobile to mobile minutes. If you have to call someone other than your travel partner (or other AT&T cell phone) then you only pay .07 per minute. Pretty good deal if you only need it for a short trip.

Their phones start at $9.99 and you can buy a $15 card (they don't show the $15 card online, but just buy the phone without airtime and call and you can add the $15). Or they have a package deal right now with the phone and a $25 airtime card for $29.99 and you get a $10 airtime bonus when you activate it. So $35 of airtime and a phone all for $30, not bad!

You didn't mention what carrier you have now, but if they offer prepaid service, you can use your existing phone for the time you are in Disney. Just have them put the new sim card with the prepaid phone number in it (at&t or t-mobile only) and you can put your old sim back in when you get home and you are back to normal!

Hope this helps!

I am Canadian, does anyone know of a cheap disposeable phone I can get? That will allow me to call Canada?

Our family views Disney has a "family trip" so we stay together and have have a great time. We actually leave the cell phones in the hotel so we are not distracted - how often can you get a week of 100% family time.

Just us :goodvibes

I live in Ontario, Canada and I popped over to the states to pick up a tracfone. The phone cost $10 and then you buy cards with minutes. You can get them at walmart. The main reason I got it was for the long distance so that I could call my dh (at home/work) for free (it uses up the same amount of minutes as calling in the US) and so he can get a hold of us.:goodvibes

Tracfone is having a sale on thier website right now. You get a free phone and 60 minutes of airtime plus an additonal bonus 60 minutes of airtime with the promo code all for 19.99...

I always think of the phones as an added layer of communication and security, With the GPS feature, if someting happened to one of the kids we would have a better shot of finding them and the kids could get ahold of us quickly if needed. Also, it gives an opportunity to line up whle one uses bathroom, grabs fast passes or finding the best strategic location for parade watching.

Do the tracfones have the gps feature?

We consider it a family trip, too, and the cellphones were a lifesaver! Sometimes we'd split up for rides (no reason why the little ones and seniors should stand around while mom, dad, and the big kids waited for bigger rides), and it was so nice to just call to see where they were. Plus, at one point, we lost grandpa (spit up, and both parties thought he was with the other party), and we were SO glad he had his phone on him!

This is something DBF and I are looking into - it's just us going for 3 weeks in September and we're likely to have a tiny bit of time apart - when we need to do our shopping for "each other" and when we visit a shopping mall - there are shops we like to do on our own....

Can we get a really cheap phone each to use and then store in the Owners Locker and if need be we can by a "pay as you go/use" sim card. Is this possible?

Our last trip, a few years ago, I had a Tracfone, son had a Metro PCS. His phone never could pick up a signal on Disney property, never had an issue with the Tracfone. I used it to keep current on my bank account (due to spending and with the pet sitter).

We are originally from Canada (Wpg). How's it goin eh? :goodvibes

We picked up a second AT&T GoPhone for our trip last fall. The phone was only $20. You can get them at Walmart, BestBuy etc. Maybe you can order online or through these stores since they are also in Canada? There's no charge for minutes between each AT&T phones, just the $1 per day usage. They were very handy for us. Sometmes I would go off with the baby to one of the baby care centres and this let my husband an daughter do whatever they wanted without waiting for us. I could just call and find them once the baby was fed or changed.

We also called home to the grandparents in Canada a couple of times and it only cost .20 per minute. We thought it was pretty reasonable.

Have a great trip
