cell phones in the parks

I read on another thread that cell phones don't always work in the parks. Has anyone had problems with their phones? We had planned on using them to meet up with my in-laws so that we could go separately and get an early start with the kids. Is this a general problem or is there a certain mobile provider that doesn't seem to work well?

We used Cingular and Verizon in November and had no problems in the parks at all. In the hotel room though, we couldn't get service but we just walked outside to use it. No big deal.

I have Sprint and had no problems, even in the hotel room which is almost unheard of!

We had a problem with Verizon in October.. We both were on the same network and we never got a ring.. it always went to our voice mail and then took about an hour 'to arrive'. Meaning get the message.. I have noticed that cell phone to cell phone can be a problem for us, but land line to cell phone was just fine..

I've read other posts about cell phones in WDW. With the same cell phone service provider, some people reported no problems while others reported many problems. I've come to the conclusion that the type of phone being used determines whether or not you get good reception. There have been a few times at home when I would have 5 bars signal strength on my phone while my DS's phone had only 3.

Thanks for all of the quick replies. Sounds like cell phone service at Disney isn't really different from where I live! I guess we'll just have to try our luck, but have a back-up meeting spot just in case.

For those who have Sprint, do you have their R-Link service? If so, how did that work in the parks. For those how don't know, R-link is sprints walkie talkie (2-way) feature (like Nextel).
