Yet another ?..wondering about cell phone reception in the park. My hubby and I are planning on splitting up a few times so that we are not sitting idle and waiting.(Example: youngest dd can not ride Indie so I will take her on jungle while he rides w/ other kids) So, I am wondering if we will have a prob keeping in touch w/ each other. We have Sprint for our carrier and we have unlimited call text and web...will any of these work in the park?

I use an iPhone and the kids have Verizon and there has never been a problem, just do not expect wifi outside the hotels.

I'm also a verizon user...
always get reception whenever I go, except in certain rides, like "it's tough to be a bug"
but out walkig around and stuff i never had a problem.

We are AT&T users and didn't have a problem last year. WAY better than walkies which we tried in 2008.

AT&T iPhone user - no problem but we used text - hard to hear phone ring and hard to talk on it with the background noise

T Mobile user and I've never had a problem, though we usually text rather than call because of the noise.

We have Verizon too, never had any issues. We let the kids go on rides while we pin trade and we use texting to keep in touch. Never had any problems at all. ;)

Great reception outside. Even AT&T customers can reliably make and receive calls! Inside some buildings will be spotty, tho. Don't expect to be able to text/tweet while on Pirates or Haunted Mansion.

My sons have AT&T Go Phones and I have a Verizon pay as you go. My husband has a Virgin pay as you go phone. None of us had any problem with phones there except in the Soarin building once you go down.

Everyone else has such good luck! I don't. I have missed many texts and calls.

So just in case, make plans like "when we are done we will come to THIS rock between JC and Indy", and don't rely on the phone for that. Just my experience and bad luck talking there! :)

What company do you use?

We also have a back up "earthquake" plan. In case phones don't work or are busy we agree to meet somewhere if there is an earthquake.

We are fine with AT&T iPhones. Like the other posters said, inside buildings are an issue (Indy, Soarin' etc).

We do use them mainly to text - because of the noise.

We have also 'missed' texts and calls - but it was because of the noise level and movement. Can't hear the phone ring - and you are moving too fast to feel it vibrate :)

There was one time I walked from pirates to tomorrowland - and my DH sent me 4 or 5 text messages (that I was waiting for because we were going to meet up) and I was moving so fast pushing the stroller - I never felt them. It wasn't until I went to text him to see why it was taking so long on BTMRR that I realized he was looking for me.

We have a backup plan too and the girls always know where we are waiting for them. IE they want to ride Space or Star Tours and DBF and I don't so we will pin trade at the Little Green Men shop (as in setting our book on a table) or we will ride Buzz or we will sit on the benches in TL to wait. They always know where to look for us but we've never had to have that backup plan, our phones have always worked. We keep them on vibrate so they are felt if not heard. :)

I have Virgin, which is on Sprint's network. The only place I noticed that I wasn't getting a signal was inside the Tower of Terror building; otherwise, I've sent and received texts from all around both parks with no problem.

We have Sprint and I can never get reception while on Indy, other wise no problems in the rest of the park.

T-mobile works great for texting, voice (calls) can be hit or miss.... I do love the $1 a day plan unlimited voice that T-mobile has for calls between T-mobile cell phones. Worth checking out, IMO.

Also, for Canadians, or Australians, I would suggest buying a T-mobile USA sim card and using it with an unlocked GSM phone that you know will work in the USA. In Canada, cell phone companies tend to charge HUGE amounts for calls from USA back to Canada, (around $2.75 or so per minute) but when calls are made in this manner, can be as 'little' as 60 cents per minute if on the $1 a day T-mobile plan, OR texting can be done at VERY reasonable rates. Texting is the way to go.
