I work in Service My mobile office is my Van and at that time I'm either on-line checking stuff ,talking to boss, other techs or my customers.sometimes the nightshift leaves us voice messages or e-mails on things they left for us to do.

I can do this all from my Blackberry But I do pull over if I need to use the Laptop for something.

With the exception of maybe L.A. and NYC I drive on the worse area in the US .

95 from the north Baltimore area to DC and both beltways.

Maybe the guy hates his coworker/neighbor enough to call and rub it in "yep, you are sitting at your desk working away, guess where I am...floating down a lazy river here at WDW, in sunny Florida." Ok ok I'll admit it, I have at least one coworker I'd LOVE to do that to  :rolleyes1
Fire14 :lmao:
I got a phone call on my cell while on vacation last Spring. It was the dentist office reminding me we need to make appts. They said they couldn't reach me at home so they tried my cell phone. Boy they sure did want to clean our teeth :teeth: I said I'd call back once after we got home from WDW.

I see stupid people!

My new motto!

That said...my boss wishes he could have me on call 24/7...my last vacation there were 3 voice mails on my cell phone..which I returned at my leisure. Our conversation..

He: What took you so long to call back
Me: Well I am in Orlando, my vacation started today
He: And you left already?
Me: Well...yeah...

That is why I LOVE my Treo 650...I can set it up so only people I want to let ring through do. Every one else...automatic voice mail!

EXCEPT on vacation. During my normal life I lose hundreds of minutes a month of "free" calls - I just use it to say I'm running late - or other quick calls

but on vacation - If DH is with DS doing something and I have some time to myself - I'll make a call or two - I try to speak very softly and I certainly wouldn't do it in an attraction - I check in with my mom, who lives alone, and who loves to hear how my vacation is going - I'll call a coworker for a few minutes and tease - I'll check in with my friend who is stopping by my house every day to feed my cat. It's not that I feel afraid to be seperated from my everyday world - I'm just touching base with friends and family.

AND I've gotten calls from Disney - my brother called me - quietly,I'll add - and we caught up - I asked what the kids were enjoying - where he'd eaten - if it rained - how many blisters he had on his feet...

I love getting calls from friends while they're on vacation - I've gotten calls from friends on the road "hey Larry is driving -the boys are asleep in the back seat - I've listened to two cds - let's catch up" - I

I've gotten calls from ski lifts - and zoos and calls from frustrated friends stuck at airports.

I know that there are people addicted to their phones - but then there are the ones who just grab a few minutes to connect with people that sometimes get lost in the busy every day life stuff.

Carrying one"s cell phone into the lazy river should be a capital offense. I think if I heard one ring there I'd drown it.

I"ve seen some guy on a lazy river talking on his cell phone. I thought that was kinda stupid, but he had my curiosity picqued. I kept watching him, and low and behold he was snapping pictures. And it wasn't the scenery. I realized it when his phone rang.

Yikes! I never thought of that! :scared1:

As someone who's friends have all moved away to different time zones in the past few years, I am on my cell phone constantly to people. I don't have long distance on my regular phone, because it's so expensive; on my cell phone, it's free. I can call from anywhere in the US to anywhere in the US, and I get no long distance charges, and no roaming charges. However, I live in the boonies so when I'm at my house, my cell phone doesn't work. The only place it works is a few miles away, while I'm driving. We all use bluetooths, which are hands free calling; you still have both hands on your wheel, and aren't concerned about the phone at all. That means you can keep your attention on the road, and just talk normally.
I can call and talk to my best friend Michael, who lives 1,000 miles away. He sleeps at odd hours, so if you see someone on the phone at 4:30 Am driving to work, that's who I'm talking to. I can call and talk to Jason, my buddy who moved to Florida. At 4:30 AM, it's 7:30 AM and he's heading to work himself. After work it's generally too late to talk to him.
At 5 PM, I can call and talk to my brother, who's wife is in such a bad condition medically that it's hard to reach him at home. If I can catch him during his commute, I can actually catch up and see how things are going with him, and not having to hear "Uh I need to get back to you later sorry". I can call my Grandmother, who doesn't seem to realize she's a grandma and needs to stay home and bake cookies. That woman is IMPOSSIBLE to reach!
I can call and talk to my parents during my drive home, and talk about the trips I'm planning for them, or the problems they're having at the house they have here (3 hours from their main house). I can tell them how things are going, or talk to them about the problems with my other grandma. She's slowly losing her mind (I Think due to dementia) but no one else sees it because they don't visit her. I can keep my dad updated, and he can fight with his sisters to do something about it.

While at Disney World, I will be using my cell phones. I do not plan to stick with the family the whole time, and if we need to figure out where each person is at, it will be a lot easier to use a cell phone and say "Hey where are you? I'm heading home" instead of running all over a massively huge park. This way, I can enjoy Disney World my way, and the parents can be party poopers and enjoy it from the park bench.
Now, I won't be using it to scream at the top of my lungs, but I will be using it in a quiet voice, and talking to my friends or my family. I have yet to have someone complain to me that I'm being rude, and no one has ever given me dirty looks. The only comments I've gotten is "cool headpiece! How do I get one of those?" If I'm in a line at a store and reach the register, I either hang up or tell the person hold on, and give my attention to the person helping me. But if there is no one that needs my attention, why not be catching up with old friends or family?
What if you're down in Disney World and something bad happens to someone? Would you really want to find out 2 weeks later, after they've already had the funeral? By having a cell phone, someone can contact me to tell me if there's an emergency, and I can take care of it instantly instead of finding out later. The guilt would eat me alive if I missed something like that. And yes, I have had that happen.
Or I've been called because a cow fell into our pool. And I've been called because our house flooded. Both of those are things I am happy I had a cell phone for, because then I could get on the phone and take care of it immediately.

Now as far as the lazy river goes, I've never been on it but I can see why someone WOULD call then. If they aren't using a loud obnoxious voice, why should it bother someone else? I'm not a person who can relax doing absolutely nothing; it drives me nuts. My idea of relaxation isn't peace and quiet and floating down a river...but being able to lay back and talk to someone I haven't chatted with in a long time. To be able to hear their voice, and find out the news, how they're doing, how their kids are doing, etc....that sounds like a lot of fun to me, and a lot better than lying down doing nothing.

So, to each their own, of course! I realize the majority of you don't like cell phones. But just remember, there are some of us who have no other way of keeping in touch, and why not let us have those moments?

P.S. I will definitely be snapping pictures and sending them to my friends, saying "HA HA IM HERE AND YOU AREN'T!!" HE HE

I don't think floating down the lazy river is the place to be on the cell phone. You could do it at your chair.

Not much could happen that you couldn't leave your cell phone at your chair while you float down the river. There is voice mail if something really bad happened and you could call back when you got out of the lazy river.

I haven't heard too many people on cell phones talking in a quiet voice. Usually everyone can hear the conversation.

I guess I must be showing my age because I can remember when we didn't have to stay in touch 24/7. It actually was nice to go out without someone getting in touch with you.

Maybe he was on his cell calling his friends back home and bragging that he was at WDW!!!! :)

So many times I've overheard adults traveling with their spouses and kids trying to deal with problems back at work. How sad that a vacation can't be a vacation. DH and I were in line at Soarin' and a man behind us got a cell phone call. He said "Well, I'm here with my family at Disney World". Apparently this wasn't a good enough answer for the caller, and this man spent several minutes trying to explain the details of some corporate purchase. When it was time to board Soarin' he finally said "I'm losing the signal, I'll call back later." Fun vacation, huh?
Easy solution, just turn the phone off. :thumbsup2

I hate cell phones. I am married to a man who uses his cell phone in Disney. I wish it was that easy, to just turn it off. We own a small plumbing and heating bussiness with employees. All kinds of stuff happens while we are away. If you see us and my husband is on the phone, I am sorry. I hate it but if we want to have a house when we get home he must take care of buss. He does try not to answer calls around others and find places to call people back that are not as much as a bother. When we make our million maybe we could hire someone to help with that stuff while we are away.LOL :rotfl:
