Forgive me if this has been asked before, but do cell phones work on the ship while it is out at sea and/or in port? I have Cingular and wonder if I'll be able to get a signal or not. TIA!

If you get close to some of the islands as you pass by some phones have been said to work, but normally they will not work. Our Verizon service worked in St. Thomas, but not in St. Maarten.

My cell phone worked in Nassau ... we have Verizon Wireless ... you might have to contact your cellular carrier to activate "international usage" BEFORE you leave (I found this out the hard way in Cozumel). :)

I have plans of contacting Cingular to see about International rates. I was wondering the same thing about service on the ship. Has anyone ever made calls from the ship using their phones?....how much was the call? So full of questions I know.. :goodvibes I am trying to find out all I can before 8/10/2005 :cheer2:

$170.00 later, my wife was instructed no more calling home from the ship ..... good gravy. I think it may have been even higher, but I forget. Ship to shore rates were $7.95 per minute if I remember correctly.

Thursday night comming back from our Western Thanksgiving day sailing I was comming up the elevator after late dinner about 10:15 and we were passing by an island and someone said, "hey my nextel works". We were able to go on the verandah and with our families Happy Thanksgiving for about the next half hour!!! Other than that 4 hours after departing and about 4 hours before docking is where it comes in and goes out!!!

We were on the Western and have T-Mobile. I had services in I know the Mexican ports. It costs me about $12.00 in charges but it was well worth it to me. I want to say we did talk about 10 minutes worth of time.

Our verizon worked in St. Thomas, but the rates were very high. Cost a BUNCH to call home to wish the kids, grandkids and parents Merry Christmas.
We will not do that again. Will wish them well before we leave next time.
