Cell phone problem..

Overall, no. There are few times I've had spotty reception, but that's true in the real world too. Usually, if I walk a few feet I can get a signal when this happens.

we stayed at Pop in September...had no trouble with our Alltel cell phones there (were able to use them in the room just fine, so maybe it's just some buildings or rooms have worse reception?)

As for at the parks, the only place we had reception issues was in the snake like for Soarin'...tried to contact DD since we were supposed to be meeting soon to leave the park for the night...couldn't get a signal to send her a text message until we got to the top of the Soarin' ramp and turned the corner to go to where the turnstyles are (where they would take your Fastpass if you had one:rotfl: ) Then the text went...and we found out she was in the line behind us about 50 people.

Other than that, we were always able to use our alltel phones.

Seems like the Blackberry is at fault then. Wish I knew if it was just mine or if all the Curves get poor reception. When it works the reception is great, but when it doesn't it just doesn't. And that's at home too. When it decides not to work, I don't get a missed call message, it doesn't ring, it doesn't even go to voice mail so they can leave a message. Weird. My old alltel phone was a Nokia 6255 and it worked great at Disney World and everywhere else. Wish I had it back, but I sent it to Cellphones for Soldiers so I have to live with the Blackberry or fork over $$$ to get a new phone since my new contract isn't up for like 21 months yet!

We have Alltel and the service is spotty, I wasn't expecting that at all. Especially in POR, no reception in the room at all. Our phones are only a few months old (I can't remember which one it is..it's the one with the flip open keyboard for texting).

We had problems with our IPhone locating the 3G network while we were there. Also in the hotel rooms at CBR we had no service. One of us has AT&7 service (the Iphone) and the other has Verizon.

When I stayed at CBR in 03 we had Alltel and couldn't get a signal in the room.

I have Verizon and the service is spotty in WDW

I have Verizon and have never had a problem...only place I couldn't get a signal was in Soarin...not on the ride but when I was waiting in line.

Soarin is the only place that I had no signal. In our room at Pop it would go down to maybe one or two bars, but it would still work.

It's a conspiracy. All cell phone conversations are scrambled by Disney. They want no contact with the outside world while you're there. You will be assimulated. :rotfl2:

While I know you are being sarcastic, to a point ;) There arent a lot of cell towers, there are lots of buildings to block signals etc etc. I have verizon, and I dont get great signals anywhere on site. I can tether to my laptop for i-net access, but it was just so slow since I wasnt getting full power.

I have AT&T Cingular for the last 5 years, and have been down to Disney atleast 10 times since getting this phone and service and I have never had a problem getting a signal, or making a call at anytime,

I also have Verizon and never had a problem outside, not sure of in attractions, because I shut my phone off during rides etc.I know the gentleman next to me on Soarin had no problem with his phone since he talked on it thru the whole ride:rolleyes1

At home i "knock on wood" never have problems with receptions, so i am hoping this is true down there. I mainly just want it so if we all split up, we can call each other or text to meet up. But like someone else said... we should have a back up plan.... which will be like the good old days - meet us at X at X time. ;)

How many cell phone towers have you seen around WDW?

There are indeed towers around Disney property, but you won't recognize them as towers.

Look for an unusally big tree standing out in the middle of nowhere...is it indeed a tree, or is it a cell tower?? ;)

I have US Cellular and have never had a problem with my phone at Disney. Then again, I mostly use it at the hotel and on the bus...I really don't use it often in the parks because I like to shut out the outside world while at Disney.

Same here! Although I don't turn my phone off, I just don't use it on rides. I've never had a problem just walking around the parks and/or around the hotel and we stay at POP.

My wife & I both have iPhones and haven't had a problem in any part of WDW except for some times being inside a show building (Soaring comes to mind) where the signal gets blocked by all the walls. Otherwise, everything just works, including internet on 3G.

I have US Cellular, and I had no issues anywhere. We stayed at POR, and I used my cell numerous times on property (not just in the room) and had no problems. :)

I also had service wherever I was in the parks (with the exception of Soarin). :goodvibes

We also use AT&T and have never had a problem using out phones. Just like a few other people, my DH and I use them to keep in touch with each other if we are going in different directions at times and have always had a good signal unless we were in some buildings.

We have AT & T for the past 7 years and have never had a problem with service in WDW.

I have US Cellular and never have any problems with service. I've used it all over the US, Mexico and the Carribean.

We are in the World right now, and all of my family has US Cell and we are all having dropped call problems. But its ok i dont want to talk to people back in reality anyway!! :rotfl:

I guess I'll take the walkie talkies as a back up in case we have issues with cell reception. Not sure the walkie talkies will be much better.

I have had my curve for just over a month now and have Verizon. I have never had an issue with the signal. The only problem I have is the track ball is starting to not "catch" and will not move the arrow on the screen. But that is spotty and obviously just this phone. My husband has had a regular blackberry for 2 years now and has not had any problems.

We have Sprint/Nextel. We have not had any problems with the service, but...my husband could write a book on why he dislikes his Blackberry!

Last year when we were down there we had Nextel and had spotty service. this year we had verizon and the only place we didnt have service was in the que for soarin
