ok so looking to either stay with verizon or switch to at&t. either way I need a new phone. Looking to get the iphone 6s. anyone know if there are any deals out there and with who? need to use verizon or at &t due to where we live. looked at both plans and they seem about the same price unless someone know of any offers that would make one company a better deal than the other. would need 1-2 gb of data per month, unlimited talk and text. thanks for any suggestions

I thought Target had a deal on iPhones this week.

Don't rule out no contract plans. Cricket Wireless is $35 / month is you auto pay for 2.5 gb/month. They run on AT&T. I use Straight Talk. I believe my phone uses AT&T service. It's more than Cricket Wireless and given your data needs CW seems like a better deal.

I bought a 6 month old iPhone 6 off eBay for about half of what it would have cost new (part of the savings was because I paid for it with gift cards).

We use Virgin Mobile (the are Sprint). You buy the phone for full price and then pay $30 a month for the unlimited usage.

Don't forget to check if your employer can get you a discount.

My companies employee discount is like 20% off of data plans plus 50% of accessories. Pretty much all activation fees are waived. While there doesn't seem to be a discount on the phone itself, you might be better off going outside of att or verizon to get the phone. Also note the 2 phones are not compatible. If you get a verizon phone you cannot port it over to ATT. Vice versa for an ATT phone. (That is unless something changed recently in the technology.)

You can port Verizon to AT&T. You can't do the opposite (well it looks like you sort of can with a 6 or later model but it's not the best solution).

Check Target or if you have Costco they sometimes give gift cards when you get a phone. I got $150 each phone in Costco gift cards and a friend got Target gift cards when she signed up there.

have to stick to either verizon or at&t because of our location. sprint doesn't cover my area that well. I know verizon and at&t work where I live so will stick with one of them. employee discount is the same with both. just need to find a good deal to make it worth switching providers or upgrade our phones which need it

If ATT works, so will straight talk - same towers. Same goes for any of the contract companies that use Verizon towers. You don't HAVE to stick with one of those two - you CAN use someone else that piggybacks on their signals.

Yep. I run ST on AT&T towers. Costs me < $40/month for unlimited talk and text 5 gb of data.

How many phones do you need on the plan?

I had Straighttalk when it was just me who needed it, but now that we have 5 of us needing the plan, we switched to ATT and it is cheaper than having 5 ind. plans. DH has 25% off the plan, and his work pays $50 of the plan for his portion. So, the bill comes to around $120 with tax (our portion) for 5 phones and a tablet for the plan, unlimited talk/text and 15gb data to share with 10gb rollover.

We also use Virgin Mobile for past 3 yrs. Service is good. $30 a month unlimited everything.

While what you say here is true, what a lot of people don't understand is that there is a priority.

If you are using a plan like Straight Talk and Piggy Backing on another carrier (such as Verizon or ATT), it's just like roaming. However the owners of the cell towers can lower your priority. So for example if all the available "Cells" on a tower (for lack of a better word) are at (or near) capacity, they can certainly not allow customers like Straight talk (or even other carriers that might be "Roaming" on their tower) to use the tower in favor of their own customers. This in effect, can limit your connectivity. Certainly the same could be said about the data capacity as well. While I might get 4G LTE on an ATT tower because I am an ATT customer, a Straight talk user might get throttled down to 3G.

I am not arguing for one over the other, it's just another factor to consider when making the decision.

StraightTalk has cell phone agreements with all 4 major cell phone providers. The network you use depends on the phone or sim card you buy.

PagePlus is a Verizon MVNO. If your looking to cut your price, PagePlus is the best way to go. StraightTalk is another but i have no idea how to get your phone onto verizon. Its not that simple ive heard.

In terms of deal, i think ATT will have deals. I think they recently have some buy one get one free promo for valentines day. Not sure if iPhone applies though, ATT will have more deals than Verizon.
if not, i would just go with Apple and get a phone directly through them. they have monthly payments now.

Getting a phone on St is very easy.

att and tmobile yes. but Verizon? i heard its difficult. then again, that was like 4-5 yrs ago when i was playing around with it.
They're all easy. It's a different nano sim, but the same process.
