What cell phone service works on the wonder. I have sprint pcs. the last time I went on the wonder it would not work in Nassau or Castaway Cay. Could not even roam. please help

I have Sprint pcs also and to the best of my knowlege we have no coverage there. In April 2002 I called them to verify it and they told me DO NOT use it or it would cost an arm and a leg!

We just returned from Nassau, Freeport, and Castaway, and our cell phones would not work at any of these places. We have Verizon wireless. Not even roaming....

I believe you would need a GSM "next generation" type phone for service in those places.

We also have Sprint PCS and while we have plenty of signal, the calls never go through while in the Bahamas. Now we've used our cell phone while in Bermuda and they also worked while on our DCL in Grand Cayman this past June. They did not work while in Cozumel though. Be careful, the charges add up quickly!

When I cruised thd Wonder in June, my Kyocera cell phone (with Verizon wireless plan) got service in Nassau, Freeport (on the beach at Lucayan Resort) but not CC. I did have service on the ship quite a few times (outside, on a high deck).

I looked at my phone bill and saw that I actually did get service on CC as well as Nassau and Freeport (roaming) but not the ship.( I got service on Carnival's Ecstasy two years ago somewhere around Cozumel.) During my Wonder cruise in June, I made one call in Nassau, five while lounging on the beach at the Lucayan Resort in Freeport, and two in the morning on CC (although I do remember that the reception wasn't as good as in Freeport and Nassau). Yeah Verizon:bounce: P.S, Steverog, I sent you a pm.

My dads cell phone (Cingular) worked at Nassau and Freeport... the reason I know this is that me and my sis called my cousin(his family took us on our first disney cruise) and talked to him for quite a while... we just walked around the ship on deck 3 and got GREAT service.... but we didn't check for service on CC... to much to do and see and WAAAAYYYYY to much fun to be calling some 1!! hehe

My cellular service (Sprint PCS) worked on the last day (day at sea) on the 4 day Wonder. Around mid afternoon, I could see the Florida coastline in the distance, so I gave it a shot. Not very good reception though good enough to talk.

I have Cingular and was able to make a call from CC. I had to stand on my verandah to get reception, but the call went through fine. We were on the Wonder September 14 sailing - the one that went to CC on Monday because of Hurricane Isabelle, the ship was backed in and we were on starboard side Deck 7. Best part -- the call is listed on my bill as just a regular call and no roaming charges!!!!

goodstar,

I also have Verizion service, was your bill out of sight or part of the plan?

Thanks

The calls were all roaming at 69cents/minute, stating that they originated out of Nassau. (Even when I called another Verizon mobile line and have mobile to mobile minutes). I agree with you cruisecrazy89, I did have better things to do. But when your manager calls about a gig, ya better call back (so you can earn more money for your next cruise:p )

We have nationwide Verizon service and called the day before our trip to inquire about using our phone from Nassau. While they told us that we would be able to call, there were two different charges (in addition to regular minutes) which would be added. It worked out to something like $3 a minute, so needless to say we just turned off our phones.

The problem with many roaming type charges is that they don't show up promptly on your statement. I recall 3-4 years ago using my phone on a trip to the west coast and apparently called from some obscure cell area and got a large "daily roam fee" charge about three months after my trip. I did not have nationwide service at that time and while I was not happy I paid it since I did use the phone and didn't bother to confirm that some areas don't sometimes gouge users!

with my 19 year old son...just got our cingular bill, he kept talking to his girlfriend in TAMPA WHILE WE WERE CRUISING, AND HIS BILL WAS $664. sO BE CAREFUL!
