Neither. Contract expired a couple of years ago, and all the new plans are more expensive and include hundreds of minutes we will never use.

I split the cost of a plan with my BFF. I looked into going Month-by-month and found it was exactly the cost of a plan for our usage, but without the credit for upgrades.

We do pre-paid. Verizon is the only carrier that we can get service for at our house and I refuse to pay their contract, or their pre-paid prices. We use Page Plus and I pay a fraction of what I would pay for VZ contract.
It does come with some caveots, we only get 3G service, and our data, talk and texts aren't unlimited.

There needs to be a 3rd option, because I have both. I have a contract and I also have a pre-paid that I use for my mom. I have the contract for me from when I worked. I had 1,000 anytime minutes and I would use up almost every month, now I have over 10,000 rollover minutes. I hate to give up my contract because its grandfathered in and you can't beat the price! My mom barely uses her phone, but I like to have her keep it for when she is gone and when her home phone is out.

Pre-pay.

We have always had pre-pay as I don't want to be locked into a contract. Plus, they seem to be cheaper. (Virgin Mobile)

Prepaid. 3 Android phones for text only. $10 each phone. $0.10/minute for the whole 3 phone calls we make each year. No data.

Just reactivated an old Tracfone for the youngest. She should be getting an Android phone for her birthday.

We were on a month to month with Verizon, (lived out the contract). We switched to Page Plus (no contract) a few months ago an love it. It is a savings of about $80 a month for us. We get more minutes and texts, less data. However, I've only used about half of my 500mb allowance at the most. My DH uses less than I do. We have 2 smartphones, iPhone and Android phone.
