Got a question about coverage at WDW. Has anyone ever had problems getting a signal while at WDW and if so, who was the carrier? Also, who has experince with razor phones? Are they as durable as regular phones and are they worth getting based on their sleakness? If so, would you get an LG or a Motorola?

Any advice would be appreciated.

We have Verizon Wireless and have never had a problem getting a signal. We were able to keep in touch with our kids who also have VW so all of our chatting was free. VW does not charge you when calling In-network.

As for the razor phones, no advice there. We have a Motorola flip phone. Works great!

Have fun :)

Also no problem with verizon. No experience with the razor phone. I have an LG but not a razor

We have Verizon Wireless and I've not had any problems at WDW. I have an LG that is due for it's new every 2 next month and it worked great at MK, MGM, Epcot, DTD...didn't use it at AK that I remember. Now, DH and DS both have a Samsung and DS noticed that his phone acted up a couple of times. I love the LG phone since day one. When I was phone shopping the last time I upgraded, I asked around and about 10 people I know had the LG phones and spoke highly of them so I went with it. DS was just telling me the other day that I need to get one of the Razor phone next, but I'm not sure...don't know anyone who has it. I do know that I wouldn't buy another Kyociera again...the last 2 I had were junk...battery died quickly on the first one and the second one lost the vibrating action...both happening shortly after the one year owner mark. The only complaint I have about the LG phone I have is that sometimes it's just too blasted loud...and I keep the earpiece volume on the lowest possible setting, but I can deal with it since everything else is great.

Well if it's good enough for Disney it's good enough for us.

Nextel all motorola from the I90 up to the I870 and all between.

I have sprint and I even get signal in the utilidor. infact my signal is stronger on park property than anywhere else in orlando. I actualy have a full signal meter.

I do know that Metro PCS has absolutly no coverage at all. WDW is a dead zone for that coverage.

i have a nokia and i had no trouble getting a signal......our carrier is altell and the whole state of florida is covered in my plan..... vicki

AT&T Wireless (now part of Cingular) and Cingular service was flawless using Motorola flip phones. Free calls from Cingular to Cingular.

And for those of you who don't have national plans, don't forget to make those arrangements before travelling -- roaming fees have kicked our butts in the past so I have changed our plans specifically for this trip knowing that we will be communicating with our cells.

Heads up!

Some AT&T Wireless customers have reported problems since the merger with Cingular. There is at least one class action suit on the drawing board, alleging that Cingular is reducing the coverage formerly available to AT&T Wireless phones used as-is.

We also have Verizon, no problems with a signal yet. We have LG picture phones, which were a lifesaver for me when DH went off with the camera and my DS9 was picked as a 'helper" in Italy during a show.

As someone who works in the "biz", I would recommed going with a carrier that gives you the best plan, and covers the areas that you go. Since you are signing up for a 1-2 year agreement, I wouldn't sign up with someone just for a week or two at Disney.
If you don't want a long term plan, go with a prepaid.
As far as the Razor goes..... if you get a good one, it will be fine. If you get a bad one, well, you know. I personally prefer Nokia, Samsung, and LG, not necessarily in that order.

Have a magical trip

My flip phone is Samsung, my carrier is Verizon.
I've never had a problem with the signals
OUTSIDE the buildings in the parks.

My cell phone is important to me. I usually vacation solo, so I like to keep in touch with my Mom, and my DH back at home.

I had signed up for the national plan right from the start because I knew I would be using the pnone for every annual trip to WDW.

In response to seashoreCM - I used my phone to text message and to talk to my "kids" (17 & 20) last Nov/Dec when the DW were at WDW.

This will be our first trip to Disney using our cell phones. We had used two way radio's in the past. Great to know Verizon works well in the parks. Now that we all have phones, gotta love the Free IN Calling. When we split up, I know we can always reach each other :thanks:

I have a Razr with Cingular. In October, I had better reception than I had in the past with AT&T (2002) and Alltel (2004). There were times I missed calls completely and they dumped to voicemail later. So it wasn't foolproof. We always had a *meet here by $time if you don't hear anything* plan, and I checked my voicemail constantly.

I have a Razr and use T-Mobile service. We used our phones in the parks/resorts last October. DH has a Sidekick II which he likes a lot. We never ran into dead zones but we didn't leave the property either. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

all i can say is check your service providers website. they generaly have a coverage map and sometimes tell you how strong it is.

the way it works is, cell companies have to pay to get their signal in the park. it's relayed through the company cell towers through property.

thats why with companies such as boost mobile. On their service map theres a big dead zone in the shapeof the walt disney property.
