Cell Carriers for data in Parks?

Went to DLR for the first time with Genie+ and found my AT&T cell would not function to book LL's on Genie+.
Kept getting an error message. I even had a CM supervisor trying to get my cell to function properly with Genie+. We tried using park wi-fi and also just using phone data and no wi-fi. Didn't make any difference to the issue.

What a nightmare!! The only thing to save our two days, was using my DIL's Verizon Cell.

I'm not a newbie to Disneyland, prior to the pandemic I was an AP holder with YEARS of experience!

Wondering if the problems was the age of my cell phone.... or was there an overload for AT&T's system.
Has anyone else had problems that have AT&T as their cell carrier?

I never had these issues with FP's or MaxPass but so far not a fan of Genie+.

Overall the trip wasn't bad but I know it could have been better.

That is really odd. We have been on AT&T for many, many years. We were at DL in July and had no problem at all.

The fact that you also couldn't book Lightning Lanes through Wi-Fi suggests that the problem wasn't with AT&T cellular system.

What did the error message say?

Was coming here to say this^

It sounds like it's a phone issue honestly, not carrier. I also use AT&T and haven't had any connection issues in the parks (last was there mid October). Had no issues with my Pixel 5 (early October) and also now no issues with my Pixel 8 Pro (mid October).

Adding to the quoted question:
What is your phone model?
What OS? Are you able to update to the latest available update for it?
What version of DLR app?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app?
Did you try restarting your phone?
Clearing cache?

I have trouble with T-Mobile near Silly Symphony Swings in DCA.

I know the phone is old but so was my DIL's cell phone
Both our phones are Samsung. Mine is a Galaxy J7 J737A (Nov 2018) Android

I updated the app right before we left for DLR
Did you try restarting your phone?
Yes when the CM was trying to solve the issue this is one of the steps they tried
Clearing cache?
I have no idea about the cache....

I figured it was the age of the phone.

Disney app is notorious for needing latest tech unfortunately. An old phone we have won't even download it. And it's not even a super old phone either.

How up-to-date is your OS? The phone’s a little old but not atrocious. The OS is very important though, even for fairly new phones.

Clearing the cache only works for the website, and really only for desktop computers, not cell phones. There is no manual way to clear the cache on a cell phone other than rebooting the phone. I designed microprocessors for cell phones, most recently Samsung.

Oof. They've gotten better, but not the biggest fan of Samsung. They add a skin to Android that can really muck things up. Especially as they get older and aren't getting regular updates anymore.

Looks like it maxed out at Pie/Android 9 for OS? I know they say the app can work with as old as Oreo/Android 8, but that app can be super glitchy with Android the older it is. It can be super glitchy with the latest too actually because it's still catching up lol

But did you uninstall and reinstall it?

I ask this because I did have an issue where it wouldn't let me into the dining reservation screen. Kept having me log in again, but would kick me back to the main page every time I did.

An uninstall and reinstall fixed it.

For Android (note that I'm running Upside Down Cake/Android 14 right now, but should be similar for older versions):

Long hold on the app tile, you should see a pop up that says:
"App info" (choose this)
"Pause app"

Then click storage and cache

Then clear cache

I figured it was the age of the phone.

Honestly might be time for an update. I time my upgrades based on guaranteed security updates.

You can go into each app information to clear cache.

Not sure that an ad blocker would make a difference on the app.

I have an ad blocker installed on Chrome on my desktop and can't access Disney owned sites. If I change browsers to one without the ad blocker, I can.

Also, I never realized how annoying the ads were on the Disboards until logged on without an ad blocker.
