Celing Creaking

We just took the 10/19 Wonder cruise for the first time. Actually, it's our first time cruising altogether so just wondering if the ceilings creak in most rooms and on all decks or was it just my luck that I booked the two noisiest rooms? We were in 2607 & 2609 - two Cat. 10 connecting rooms on deck 2. Not only was the ceiling creaking during the nights, we heard clanging noise in our 2607 closet the last night (and it wasn't the hangers because I checked). Just wondering if I should book on a higher deck next time. Being deprived of sleep didn't make the cruise and days at WDW afterward very enjoyable.

Just in case you're wondering, I did check in the Passporter to make sure these rooms weren't in the noisy zone before booking. I decided to get two cat. 10 rooms rather than a cat. 4 room for our family of five thinking that we would get more space and I wouldn't get motion sickness being lower in the ship and kinda in the middle.

My family of four were on the 10/12/03 Wonder cruise and we stayed in 2607. The only problem we had with noise AT ALL was when the people in the adjoining room came home and apparently their children were overly tired -- crying, yelling and generally cranky for about ten minutes.

The closet butts up to another stateroom, and I would think that someone in that room was making noise, or something in your closet perhaps was moving with the motion of the ship?? As far as creaking in the ceiling we didn't hear the tiniest noise from that area.

I am an extremely light sleeper, but I had no problems whatsoever getting and staying asleep, nor did anyone else in the family. Not sure what caused your noise, but it most definitely isn't there all the time. Sorry for your problem -- lack of sleep isn't fun!

It's kind of pot luck. We've had cabins that were totally quiet and ones that creaked and groaned a lot as the ship flexed cresting waves. There seems to be no pattern to them either.

We were on deck 6 and experienced a lot of creaking. My DH & DS seemed to sleep through it, but I couldn't. It wasn't every night, just our last one. Thank goodness we were in the later debarkation group. I didn't really sleep until we were pulling into port.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that we just got back from the 10/26 four day Wonder Cruise. We were in rooms 2583 & 2585 which are also category 10 adjoining rooms on deck two. These rooms also had creaking and groaning ceilings all night long. It was kinda spooky the first time we heard it, but we got used to it very quickly and enjoyed the cruise in spite of it. This was our first cruise, but not our last as we booked a seven night western cruise the last night!!

I must be really really strange, or just love ships and their eccentricities a lot, but I *love* that creaking when I lie in bed at night. It's one of my reasons for panic at not being in the same stateroom this next time -- I'm afraid the other stateroom won't have the same wonderful "ship sounds." I just really, really love it. Very peaceful to me.

I find it relaxing, as the ship moves over the waves there is a little creak, it is not loud, just reminds you that you are on a ship. It lulls me to sleep

We had room 6608 on the Magic and it creaked and groaned for a week. It was more the wall than the ceiling. I actually called maintenance, they came, and said it was worse on some of the midship cabins. It was a fairly rough-sea week (Nov. 2001). Hopefully next week will be calm !

On our first cruise on the Wonder, we were in one of the 11s on Deck 5. We experienced the creaking which was very loud, and also something that sounded like doors or containers slamming throughout the night- almost like someone had failed to secure a closet door or something, and it was swinging about. It was difficult to sleep.

We were "upgraded" from a Cat. 9 to a Cat. 8 room. At first we were very excited to have a navigator's veranda and then the creaking started. We also called quest services which sent a guy from maintenance. They said someone from guest services would be contacting us. Disney's solution to the horrible creaking all night long was to give us sets of earplugs!!!! Ha. Ha. Needless to say we did not get any sleep in 3 nights. The whole time I was wondering who was in my original booked Cat. 9 room which was probably very quiet!!! Not a very good upgrade in my opinion.

This was going to be one of my FIRST questions since arriving home from the Wonder!! I doubt category matters..as we were in Cat 6 (Cabin 6610) and the "creaking" was very annoying. The only time it really bothered me was the last night...then the closet door started slamming back and forth till we stabalized it with our cooler. This was our 5th cruise (First Disney) and have never experienced this type of cabin noise. I'm glad to hear its not EVERY room. Maybe someone can start a "Creaky Cabin" thread.

We were in a cat 3 (8048) on the Wonder and did hear some creaking. It wasn't all that loud, probably because the seas were pretty calm.

I did experience some very loud creaking on my last cruise on the Norway, but since the seas were running 25 feet, the ship was rolling quite a bit.

It's probably a lot more common than most of us realize.

We were in 5624 last October, a Cat. 6 aft cabin. The ceiling rattled pretty loudly. My DH stuffed something in a crack, that seemed to help a little. But I think we left it there. We have booked the same cabin for Christmas 2004 (we loved the location). I wonder if my husband's "fix" will still be there! Diana
