good morning. i have a friend whom i will be meeting up with at disney in two weeks for lunch. she wants to eat at a table service restaurant at any resort hotel or at mgm. she also has celiac spruge. i dont know muich about that allergy so any help would be appreciated.

http://www.csaceliacs.org/ maybe start there and I am sure, if my memory serves me correctly, when making a reservation you can tell them you have an allergy and the chef will try to cook for you accordingly....

My husband has celiac's and Disney is great about it. Basically at counter services he just asks if they have certain items -- some do and some not so much.

But at the sit down restaurants just tell the hostess and your server and they will have the chef come out and talk to you. Your friend will know what she can eat and the chef also is pretty versed in the subject.

Disney is great when it comes to dining w/ special needs.

It's best if your friend can make some ADRs and mention the allergy. Once you arrive at the restaurant, mention it as well to your server. Often times, the chef will come out and ask what can and can not be eaten.

Another resource to check out is the book by Deb Wills called Passporter Open Mouse. It's the 2nd edition and it's huge and has lots of special needs info.

I'm in the process of planning our first trip since my mom was diagnosed with celiac. I'd suggest making an ADR. When you make the reservation, inform the CM that one guest has celiac. They will note it on the reservation and give you a phone number to call about 48 hours prior. As for MGM, I've read good reviews for gluten free diets at Mama Melrose (Italian) and 50's Prime Time. Ask your friend what she would like to eat. I know my mom likes to eat Italian when she can. Hotel restaurants could accommodate you also. It's better to let them know ahead of time that you are coming, sometimes they can prepare something special.

My mom is a celiac, and when we went to Prime Time, they actually made some of the pot roast glutton free so she was able to eat it! She loved it!!!

I suggest hopping over to the DISabilities board. There are often a lot of posts over there regarding food allergies/intolerances.

My son is allergic to milk and eggs. I frequent that board.

Disney is awsome at accomidating food allergies at table service restaurants. I think the chefs enjoy the challenge. Just make sure that you note the allergy on the ADR. You should be able to find specific examples of gluten free experiences on that board. Just do a search for celiac or gluten.
