Today I saw THE TALK---a show I NEVER watch but since AMC got canceled there is nothing on at that time of day. So I watched a few (that was enough for me) and saw Melissa Gilbert and was SHOCKED at the amount of surgery it appears she has had. She had the tight pulled look, different nose and 'plastic' look that so many have. Marie Osmond is another prime example....after pictures showed up last week.

Would you ever consider plastic surgery...and if yes what type.

Guess if I had money to do I'd make sure I never got the 'gobble' neck....but since I will not spend money on this guess I will age as gracefully as I can.

I haven't seen her yet, but I'll try to find video.

In general, I think that women (and a lot of men, too) in Hollywood are almost obligated to go under the knife, if they want any chance of continued work. Some have great doctors (Demi Moore, for instance) and some have horrible doctors (Kenny Rogers).

If I had the money, I'd go for something very subtle. The biggest mistake people make, in my opinion, is having work done to their eyes. Once their eyes look different, it changes their entire appearance. Most of the time, for the worse.

I would love a knocker lift, but I wouldn't want to touch my face.

I work in "Hollywood" and I've seen far too many scary things. If I had to do ONE thing, I'd get the jowels done simply because I've seen far too many before and afters that look terrific. These women had nothing else done on their faces, though.

I'm afraid to look for Melissa Gilbert pictures. We're not that far apart age-wise.

If they find the right doctor and do not try to go under the knife too many times I am of the opinion "more power to ya.''

I personally would like a breast lift and a tummy tuck and while I don't need it right now, I have always been intrigued by Botox.

I think it really depends upon the plastic surgeon. I remember years ago seeing Raquel Welch after her first face lift. She looked amazing and natural. I said, "I want to know who her surgeon is." I've also seen people who look ghastly after their surgery.

A relative had to have reconstructive rhinoplasty after a broken nose. She ended up with a plastic surgeon who is considered one of the best in the region. She'd never liked her nose and as it happened, the surgeon told her that due to the break, she couldn't get her old nose back. In conversations with the surgeon about what her new nose should look like, the discussion included reviews of noses. The surgeon said that his preference is always to give someone a natural look and that if you can tell his patient has had work done, he's failed. He also said that some people are absolutely adamant that they want "perfection" but not the sort of perfection found in nature, the sort of perfection they see on soap opera stars and the like -- which is anything but natural. As he said, what they don't realize is that sort of "perfection" is actually a sign of a less than optimally skilled surgeon.

My relative's nose looks great. It also does not look like she's had work done. I consider it a great success (and do does she).

I read somewhere a while back that Melissa Gilbert suffers from severe depression and attempted suicide. Perhaps, the plastic surgery is a symptom of her depression.

My friend had a tummy tuck done recently and loves it. Her surgeon is supposedly one of the top in this region and his specialty is the eyes.
And that's the one thing I would like to have done. I have hooded eyelids which I think make me look both older and tired when I'm really not tired. I'm afraid to try it.

How is it that these people who are celebrities and have access to the top surgeons where money is no object yet still come away from it looking like it's been botched?

I had a reduction in the chest area when I was 21. One of the best things I've ever done! DH has lost a lot of weight and has loose skin around his tummy. No amount of exercise will tighten that area and he would like to have surgery to correct it. I'm totally on board for him to get it.

I think there is a difference in correcting a specific part of your body you are unhappy with and expecting plastic surgery to change your life or make you happier. I also think there is a problem when plastic surgery becomes about trying to recreate youth, which is a losing proposition from the get go.

I plan to have a nose job soon and a mid-face lift as soon as my plastic surgeon agrees to do it. Although by that time, I'll probably be ready for a full one. In the meantime, fillers are my friend. :)

Too often the person looks like a plastic doll afterwards. Even if I could afford I would not have plastic surgery. Whatever I am dealt with I will live with it. I don't have plans of dying my hair, nothing. What you see is what you get. All natural. With quite a few pounds added since my 40's. :guilty:

The trend in the wealthier areas of California seems to be toward very obvious surgeries - as someone noted, they can surely afford surgeons who do good, subtle work, but choose the very over-the-top, obvious look.

It seems like a show of wealth.

I had laser liposuction done on my abs and flanks and am happy with the results. It wasn't as drastic as a Tummy Tuck but with lots of exercise and better eating habits over the past few months i'm down over 20 pounds and wear a size 8 (I was a 12 before).

I may consider Botox at some point in my life, but have no interest in implants or any surgery on my face/cheeks.

I think subtle is the best way to go.

You said it better than I could!

As for celebrities, they should all find out who Susan Lucci uses for a plastic surgeon and get him to do their work. She is one of the very few celebrities who seems to never really age. I am sure she has a good combination of great genetics and great plastic surgeons. So many others have ruined themselves for instance Meg Ryan. In her youth she was so adorable and I am sure if she didn't do plastic surgery she would still be just as cute. Instead she got really butchered. You hardly ever see her in movies anymore, probably because one of the basic requirements of acting is having a face that can move.

Ok, this is going to come out wrong, but I don't mean it in any way (and NOT that it even matters), but I had no idea that Sara Gilbert was gay. Like I said, it doesn't matter of course. Just had no idea. I need to get out more!

Heh you really do! I'm just teasing, it's just that she's been pretty open about it for so long (she and her previous gf were together a really long time, have two kids, etc.).

As for good surgery, I think Jaclyn Smith looks great on the non-aging-yet-not-looking-like-a-loon front. She looks like her.

In general good (looking better but not "done", like believably natural and improved) surgery, I think Julie Chen's work is the gold standard for everyone, ever.

In case anyone hasn't seen it -

I added a word to your quote to make it a little more specific.

You don't see this in the wealthiest areas of Northern California. Many of those women don't even wear makeup.

Northern and Southern California could not be more different.
