Celebrity kids in ordinary schools (Brad & Angelina specifically)

Angelina Jolie's oldest child (Maddox) is attending a private school in New York. Either she or Brad Pitt drop him off and pick him up every day...and either yesterday or this morning they both were there...

On the one hand, hey why should they be deprived of one of the little joys of parenting, why should Maddox miss out on having his mom or dad pick him up just like anybody else...

But on the other hand, they are not like anyone else. The school is beseiged by fans and photographers every day and security is needed to allow Maddox to pass safely through this mess.

That can't be fun for him, and I'm sure it stinks for the other parents and kids who attend that school.

I guess I am just wondering why Jolie or Pitt couldn't just wait in the car or something, and send some non-celebrity person into the school.

So parent's who are also celeberties shouldn't be involved with their children's school. Sorry but Brad and Anelina aren't causing the problem. The fans and media are. As for this being an "ordinary school", it's a private school. The school accepted the child's enrollment.
Even if they waited in the car, don't you think the fans and media would figure out that it is them? Or should they use a different car each day?

So that we can all see how "normal" they are of course. I do think she and Brad are what seem to be great parents to those kids. He was on Good Morning America this morning and when Diane Sawyer asked him about his kids he was just beaming with pride and even said that Angelina was an incredible mother.
Nice change considering all we ever hear about lately is Britney Spear's "parenting skills" :rolleyes1

The novelty will wear off soon enough and the press will move onto something else. I'm kind of surprised that this would happen in Manhattan where there are so many famous kids living and attending school.

It's hardly an ordinary school. Maddox goes to the Lycee Francais school in New York City. The kids are taught completely in French. Tuition for first grade is $19,000 and there are only 200 kids in the entire school, preschool through high school. We're not talking about the local neighborhood school here.

Edit: I'm not saying this makes Brad and Angelina bad parents. I think they're great parents. And I think that if they want to take their son to school every day, they should be able to. The press will get bored with the same pictures every day and will back off soon enough.

Of course you have a point - I acknowledged that in my OP. But the parents who are not famous (just rich enough to attend the lycee, or whatever it's called) don't deserve to wade through a throng of paparazzi and fans and security people every morning either.

Sure it's the media's and the fan's fault - but they aren't going to just go away out of the goodness of their hearts are they?

It's not fair for Brad & Angelina, it's not fair for the other parents either. I just think that the celebrites - who chose to be famous - should be the ones to change their routine.

Of course it's none of my business. Perhaps the other parents are thrilled to pieces to have Brad & Angie in the PTA. I was just struck by a photograph I saw online...it looked pretty intense and hectic, and I felt sorry for Maddox having to deal with that every day.

You're right about the car - Brad & Angelina would be better off staying home altogether if they really wanted to avoid a public scene twice a day.

That school is no ordinary school. Lycee Francais school has about 200 students from K-12 so we are talking small small classes. It is also generally taught in french. The other children attending this school are not your "average" nyc child. Well perhaps not the normal middle class nyc child.

In NY going to school everyday will get old and the photographers will move on. Lucky child. His parents care deeply about his education. I think that is great.

I also however prefer to call Angelina -Skankalina but that is a whole 'nother story.

DUh I took too long to post sorry for repeating what someone else already said..

There are two kinds of celebrs here in Manhattan. Those that live here: Michael J. Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedwick, Julianna Moore, and then there are the visiting Hollywood celebs.

The press & papparaazi tend to leave the NY celebs alone, after an initial phase, because they are considered locals. But Hollywood celebs are hounded the whole time they are here. And well, Brad & Angelina, & George Clooney, & the A-listers are in a stratosphere that is quite diiferent from "average" celebs.

I thought they lived in N.O.?

Brad & George Clooney are here filming a movie together for the next couple of months. So Brad & Angelina wanted to enroll Maddox in school to have as normal a social/school upbringing & environment as possible, even while they are filming & traveling.

Th elink says there are 1340 students. Not that it really matters it's still a very exclusive school.

I have to agree and I just don't understand the weird obsession Americans have with celebrities? There needs to be a clear line drawn in photgraphing and pursuing celebrities who are just trying to do normal family things like everyone else. I understand liking a celebrity and if they make real news by doing something news worthy, then by all means publish it. It's the photos of them holding their kids and doing family things is what I don't understand. Why does the press need to follow these people's every single move? Like the shots of them going to a neighborhood Starbucks or walking in the Central park with their kids??? Why????

The people who buy all those tabloid celebrity magazines and follow websites like TMZ, Perez Hilton, etc, etc are just fueling this craze. There's a reason why photos of certain celebrities bring in thousands of dollars and someone has to be paying for it. Now I see there's even a TMZ television show. How much is enough?

I think that its great they are dropping hiim off for school. The novelty will wear off and then the papparazzi will leave them alone. In the meantime, the child knows tha this parents care enough to take the time to do this.

It's easy to blame the tabloids but mainstream sites like MSNBC and Fox cover celebrity news too. I guess it's a chicken and egg thing...what begat what?

Practically speaking, I doubt that millions of people are going to be persuaded to stop being interested in celebrities.

Our local radio station was making a big deal about the menu served at this school. I just checked it out and I *wish* my kids school would serve this stuff and not the fatty, carby stuff they do now!

Their School Today: Vegetable Barley Soup, Mushroom Ravioli, Steamed Broccoli, Salad and Fruit

My Kid's School Today: Sloppy Joe, Pickle, Chips & Pudding

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That school looks really nice. I wish I could educate my kids in both French and English. I imagine the photographers will grow weary of their stalking soon. :)

Some of the terms they use crack me up "baked macaroni and cheddar". :rotfl: So it's not the mac and cheese in the blue box, eh? :rotfl2:

Maybe you can send the menu to the school, saying it's all the rave now, or a new fad to follow and they should get in on it too. ;)

If B & A had stayed home or sent a nanny to pick up Maddox, they'd be blasted for being self-absorbed parents, too busy being celebs, to pick up their kid from school. :upsidedow I don't think this is a win-able situation.

As for all those tabloid readers, I think they basically don't have a life of their own, or one they are happy with and need to "live" through these celebs they keep reading about. Why else would they need pics of them dropping off their kids at school? Like that activity is so much more glamorous for the celebs? :sad2:

i wonder if the 'other' parents are being held to the restrictions that parents in some of the other schools/daycares maddox and his sibs have attended?
i recall reading an article wherein parents at one very of the schools complained quite a bit when they were advised of special rules that were being implemented because of the jolie/pitt children being accepted into attendance, that the other parents felt impeded on their/their children's enjoyment/involvement with school (apparantly parent volunteer hours had to be schedualed around the jolie/pitt volunteer hours which could change at the last minute, previously where parents in the lower grades were permitted to have informal in class birthday celebrations and take a few photos were now curtailed to prescreened bday celebrations and no photos what so ever, some type of instructions on what circumstances they could approach the jolie/pitt or a teacher or administrator who might be in their company:confused3 :confused3 ...).

i can see the desire of a celeb to have their child lead as normal a life as possible, but when it causes chaos or severly alters the school experience for the other kids/parents in a particular school i have to wonder about how those individuals are feeling.
