Celebrity kids in ordinary schools (Brad & Angelina specifically)

It's easy to blame the tabloids but mainstream sites like MSNBC and Fox cover celebrity news too. I guess it's a chicken and egg thing...what begat what?

Practically speaking, I doubt that millions of people are going to be persuaded to stop being interested in celebrities.

I agree also that it just isn't the tabloids and the major networks are guilty of this as well. When that train wreck Anna Nichole Smith died last January, I couldn't get any regular to news to save my life. Every channel was abuzz about her death and it was ridiculous, IMO. Even the O'Reilly factor covered non stop. The ironic thing was that he makes a point of ragging on celebrities and the celebrity culture in his books, yet there he was covering this. He started off by saying "unfortunately this is news and we have to cover it", blah, blah. I was like, no you don't and I took him off my Tivo schedule. I just wish more Americans would lose their appetite for the celebrity obsessed culture we have running rampant in this country. Good luck with that though.:sad2:

Angelina Jolie's oldest child (Maddox) is attending a private school in New York. Either she or Brad Pitt drop him off and pick him up every day...and either yesterday or this morning they both were there...

On the one hand, hey why should they be deprived of one of the little joys of parenting, why should Maddox miss out on having his mom or dad pick him up just like anybody else...

But on the other hand, they are not like anyone else. The school is beseiged by fans and photographers every day and security is needed to allow Maddox to pass safely through this mess.

That can't be fun for him, and I'm sure it stinks for the other parents and kids who attend that school.

I guess I am just wondering why Jolie or Pitt couldn't just wait in the car or something, and send some non-celebrity person into the school.

Based on who else sends their children there the entire thing will just die down. Celebrity kids are very common in a few NYC schools.....if it makes you feel any better Maddox is not from the most wealthy family that sends their child there.
Several kids have security in that school.

I feel bad for Maddox, but he's probably used to it. Kids adapt to all kinds of things. However, it must be difficult having to switch schools all the time. I wonder if he's been learning French elsewhere?

I don't blame both of them or one of them for wanting to pick him up and walk him out themselves. With that crush of people would you trust someone to protect your child as vehemently as you would?

The paparazzi would be there regardless of whether you get out of the car and I'd never want my kid walking alone through that jungle!

French immersion schools seem to be a the "in" trend in private education right now. I would assume he's been in similar programs

Yep, he went to a French immersion school while they lived here in New Orleans.

Oh good, well then at least that's some consistency for him. They do love those kids. I give them credit for trying to rise above the craziness of it all. Money isn't worth the headaches of having those idiots follow you around all day.

Their School Today: Vegetable Barley Soup, Mushroom Ravioli, Steamed Broccoli, Salad and Fruit

My Kid's School Today: Sloppy Joe, Pickle, Chips & Pudding

That school looks really nice. I wish I could educate my kids in both French and English. I imagine the photographers will grow weary of their stalking soon. :)

What's even worse is the fees page says the lunch fee is $930/yr (<$1/day), yet my kids pay $1.75. And they never get a dessert! Your kids are lucky they get pudding! :)

Um, this doesn't make sense, did you mistype the cost per year? Even if there was school every day of the yr that would still come out a little under $3 a day ($2.55), right?

Yeah, I was doing awfully wrong math in my head. It looks like they are paying more like $5/day. (At least I think that's right? :rotfl: )

if the school yr is 180 days, it comes to just over $5.16 a day.

I'm bumping this to say that boy was my sympathy in the wrong place! According to US Weekly and other celeb news outlets:

Maddox’s school, via Lycee’s director of operations Dan Cooke, recently sent out an amusing letter to parents to leave Brad & Angelina alone:

“I’m sure you are aware the school has received much media attention recently during the arrival and dismissal times because of the presence of celebrities Ms. Angelina Jolie and/or Mr. Brad Pitt. I want to make you aware that before the first day of school I met with their security team to discuss the best manner in which for them to drop off and pick up their son. Our foremost goal was to cause the least amount of disruption to the school and to ensure the security of all of our students and families.

Regretfully, I have seen some parents taking pictures, asking for autographs, talking to the media and even shouting at Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt for recognition. Therefore, in the best interests of the school and safety of your child(ren) I must ask for everyone to please respect the family’s privacy and discontinue these practices.”

So I take it all back! ;)
