Prom Queens: Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton may have different views on pre-marital sex, but they have a similar sensibility when it comes to fashion: both love the peachy-keen prom look. Jessica is a split personality in a cute tri-colored dress, while Paris is tutu-much in a frou-frou confection featuring a belted ice blue bodice with a sweetheart neckline and a full, ballerina-inspired tulle skirt. As for that massive butterfly in her hair, we suggest a big net or some powerful insect repellent.

Nic of Time: Nicole Kidman has earned her reputation as one of the most fashionable women on the red carpet, which is why we were so surprised by how much we disliked her '20s-era, flapper-inspired ensemble. The actress thought her backless Tom Ford for Yves St. Laurent gown, with its smattering of sequins and plunging flesh-toned-covered neckline, had a Salome feel to it, but to us it looks like something Michelle Kwan would wear while doing a triple toe loop. Even worse, the odd fit meant that Kidman was not-so-graciously tugging at it all night. We're also not digging Nic's gold ribbon headband, which fades into her once-fabulously-red-but-now-too-blonde hair.

Gray Astray: Always one on the cutting edge of fashion, Sarah Jessica Parker takes things to the next level by wearing a sparkly one-of-a-kind, created-just-for-her, gunmetal gray strapless Chanel couture dress. We realize we're supposed to admire this '50-ish lace and sequin confection with its asymmetrical hem and backside-enhancing bow, and while we can appreciate the effort that went into making it and Sarah's pluck in wearing it, we just can't give it a thumbs up. Still, we love the "Sex and the City" star's dark locks, and her bowed shoes are absolutely adorable.

Orange Blush: Jennifer Lopez has had a tough week, what with her headline-making breakup with Ben Affleck, so we'll cut her some slack for this Tang-colored Michael Kors Greek goddess creation. The diva, who has a great eye for more casual clothes (remember that pretty floral dress she wore to the "Paycheck" premiere?), always seems to go overboard at the award shows, especially with her hair and makeup. Here, her lipstick and blush regrettably match the carrot hue of her gown, while her too-long bangs do nothing but cover her natural beauty. As for her infamous million-dollar 6.1 carat pink diamond Harry Winston engagement ring, it looks like it's been replaced by an equally sizable yellow rock on her middle finger.

White Out: Diane Keaton may have showed off her bod in "Something's Gotta Give," but she made sure to cover up at the Golden Globes. The actress wears a long white coat that leaves everything to the imagination, making her look more than a little like the leader of a futuristic cult. Also choosing snow white is Gwen Stefani, whose vintage mock turtleneck Valentino is actually quite fetching. Too bad the No Doubt singer disastrously wears it with her bizarrely stiff peroxide updo, creating a look that's more cotton swab than couture.

Purple Haze: Some credit Uma Thurman for starting the whole red carpet couture craze after she famously donned an ethereal-looking lavender chiffon Prada gown at the 1995 Oscars. At this year's Golden Globes, the "Kill Bill" beauty once again makes the scene in lavender, landing on our best dressed list with a cascading satin Versace that hits her in all the right places. It's just the right color for the blonde-haired, fair-skinned Uma, whose only accessories are delicate chandelier earrings.

Second-Hand Style: Who needs a brand spankin' new designer gown when you can find something super-glamorous from days of old? That's the philosophy of Jennifer Aniston and Kim Cattrall, who choose very different vintage Valentino designs on the red carpet. The "Friends" star, who arrived with Matt LeBlanc (hubby Brad Pitt sat this one out), sports a deep-diving basic black gown with a decorative strap across her cleavage. Cattrall, perhaps in defiance of her sexually liberated character Samantha, goes demure in an ultra-feminine sequined, one-shouldered pale pink classic column.

Schlemiel Schlimazel: Renee Zellweger, still looking fabulously full-figured with those few extra "Bridget Jones" pounds, goes for an Eisenhower-era look in this blue cocktail dress from her fave designer, Carolina Herrera. While we're fans of the '50s style, this dress is simply crying out for a big embroidered "L" (as in "Laverne & Shirley"), despite those classy vintage diamond clips on the bodice. Luckily, Renee's '40s blonde waves are far more flattering, as are her strappy Manolos/
