Hello!

I got interested about this subject (why so many celebrities get plastic surgeries) and wanted to ask you all. What do you think about celebrities that get plastic surgeries? What do you think about young celebrities (especially women) that get plastic surgeries? What about old women? Is it only about beauty or it's about something else?

Some celebrities that came into my mind are: Maria Shriver (do you think she looks better after the plastic surgery? Do you think she actually got one?), Alexa Vega (it's rumored that she got a plastic surgery, altough not confirmed), what about Elsa Patton? :)

Do you think celebrities are obligated to be under the knife? I guess so. Would you get a plastic surgery in the near future? I wouldn't, because I am too afraid of surgeries. But what about you?

Do you think celebrities got so depressed by age and that's why they get plastic surgeries? Or it's someone else. Just curios.:confused3

I am younger and I've had plastic surgery. It wasn't about beauty for me, it was because I was unhappy with a part of my body that I was unable to change. I don't think there should be an age minimum or limit. If someone is unhappy about a part of their body and want to change it, more power to them.

I think there is more pressure to look a certain way in Hollywood and women are held to different standards in the industry.

I answered the best I could in red.

What do I think?
Good for them! Unless it's a hack job, and then I think "wow, shouldn't have done THAT!". :rotfl:

I have had lipo on my neck. I would do it again. I would also have several other things "done" if I had the $ :)

I think it's sad when someone has cosmetic surgery and they look nothing like themselves afterward like Rene Zellweger, Mickey Rourke, Kenny Rodgers, Michael Jackson (in the past but still), etc..

I agree with the others who say that if you are truly unhappy with a part of your body then by all means, go for it!

I have had one plastic surgery and I don't regret one second of it. Absolutely worth every penny in my book.

:cheer2:

I do believe that the people in Hollywood are under much more pressure than the average Joe/Jane though...you'd think they would be getting the best of the best, but some clearly fell short on their "touch ups". :(

Courtney Cox is starting to look like that 'cat-woman'. I don't watch her show Cougar Town, but always see the commercials for it. She's so beautiful, she didn't need to do anything, and now she's just starting to look weird.

I see "why" they do it, the pressure from having that type of career, but usually it's not a good thing. Tiny improvements that we can't notice (like plumping a wrinkle), I say go for it! But when they start to look like someone else, it's ugly.

I've noticed that too. I don't watch her show either, but have seen pictures of her. I read a blurb where she stated she has been called Janice Dickinson (former supermodel, lots of surgery). She was really offended, but I hate to say it some of the pictures I've seen of her she does resemble her. Either they are bad pictures or something else.

I think they don't often have a choice. Roles for older people, especially women are hard to find. If an actress can look younger for longer she can get roles she wouldn't otherwise. If she wants to work she has to do what she has to do. You even hear about actresses and models not eating or barely eating to maintain their figure. And working out several times a day. It must be difficult.

You have to think about what is underneath. If the public were to support movies with older actors and overweight actors you might see a change in who the jobs go to. I know personally I love to see movies with people who have flaws. I was really happy for the actor who played the Somalian pirate in Captain Phillips. Or Gabouray Sidibe when she got famous for Precious. I love to see actors who don't look perfect. I don't like when they do make unders on actors. Like when they try to take a beautiful actress and make her look less beautiful for a role. Like Chalize Theron in Monster or there's a new movie with Jennifer Aniston where they make her under. I'm surprised they can't seem to find a good actor who looks the part who can play the role.

I admit the first thing I thought of when I saw the subject line was Courteney Cox. Awhile back I saw a commercial for Matthew Perry's guest appearance on Cougar Town, and it was just bizarre seeing the two of them together, because she looks so different.

OT, but I've noticed looking back at younger photos, childhood shots that so many actresses have had nose jobs. That's fine but what goes through my head is what the heck do you say to your offspring who often wonder where their own features came from? If they get their Mom's features.

I don't why but the thought of that just kills me. :lmao: Oh you have Mommy's old nose. ;)

I've been watching "Intellegence" this season and Marge Helgenberger has had some poorly done surgery. She is too taut. And sometime midseason she added collogen to her lips and it's so weird looking, leaving a gap in the middle when she closes her mouth. I seem to spend way too much time looking at her lips and neck when I'm watching the show.

I don't really care but some people take it to extremes....like Joan Rivers.

Some of the surgeries I just don't get. Like the man and woman that are making themselves in live Ken and Barbie dolls.

I agree that it is the pressure associated with celebrity that causes them to risk these surgeries. Although I'd gladly take the money, I would hate to be held to that level of scrutiny. I'd be the bathing suit picture on the cover of some trashy mag with the face marked out. Caption, "guess who gained 30 pounds!".

Kim Bassinger, Dana Delany, and Julianne Moore have held up pretty well. Talented actresses get top roles when older . . . Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Judy Dench come to mind.

I couldn't imagine having a camera capturing every little imperfection all day long. I completely understand why celebrities feel the need to stay younger looking longer. There are, however, some celebrities that do way too much and it ends up looking awful.

I've had work done, but I bet you could never tell! One major surgery, and the rest are "lunchtime fixes." I feel better about myself and the way I look. I am more self confident.

The problem with that argument is that most celebrities could step out of the limelight and pursue something else. Of course there are a few exceptions where a financial hardship might be involved. The great number of celebrities do not HAVE to work. Joan Rivers...300 million dollar empire and 80 years old, Kenny Rogers...$250 million. These people have surgery because they are vain. They are surrounded by friends too shallow to tell them the truth and doctors too eager for the next procedure.
