Effective from 23 July, Celebration Roundup at Big Thunder Ranch, located in Frontierland at Disneyland Park, will be transitioning into a new restaurant, to be called Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue.

Many of the menu items will remain the same, as will the All-You-Care-to-Enjoy format. However, Corn Wheels and Smoked Sausages will be added during the dinner period.

There will be a reduction in price, Adults will be $19.99 during the lunch period and $24.99 during the dinner period. Children 3-9 years will be $9.99 during both meal periods.

Neither fountain drinks nor the Cowboy Cone Cakes will no longer be included in the price, but may be purchased seperately ($2.99 for Fountain Beverages, and $5.99 for the Cowboy Cone Cakes).

Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue will not be a Character Dining location, however, there will be characters passing through as they roam about Frontierland.

Yeah! Awesome news! Thanks Glendalais.:goodvibes

thanks for the update.

personally, i can't see what disney is thinking. what would be the lure of this for anyone? it's such a limited selection of menu items for such an inflated price.

additionally, people have already stated that the seating situation is not great, considering people outside the area can stand and stare at people trying to eat, plus it's outside with no a/c, and they've eliminated the popular characters.

personally, i'd never try this out. the pricing just seems laughable for what they're offering. i know DLR isn't a hotbed of good deals, but this one in particular seems stupid, even for them. :confused3

Exactly! This is exactly what I was saying over on the Celebration Round-Up BBQ thread. Too few items on the menu! If they are going to charge $19.99 or $24.99, they need to add more things. They could break everything into separate meals just like at any other table service restaurant, but they should add more side dishes to the menu, more main courses/entrees, some salads, more desserts, etc. Just MORE. It seems to be a very 'thin' menu for that kind of pricing. Very limited, indeed. I am sure it is tasty, but that doesn't make me want to go there yet.

It also doesn't help that misinformed folks on numerous message boards (which Disney does read) were very vocal about an "issue" that wasn't even the source of the real problem of that location... these were also the same people that were complaining about a location that they never experienced for themselves so they didn't see the value that a lot of us saw that had actually dined there themselves. Price wasn't the main issue of this location... it was the COMPLETE lack of marketing. Lowering the price still won't pack people in (which those same misinformed people were attributing to the price) if hardly any folks know that the location is even open. Marketing was the main issue; the restaurant, the concept, and the price was fine.

On numerous boards these same people think that the price is lower, but overall it is not. In fact, initial calculations thought that the Cowboy Cupcakes would be $3.99... but at $5.99 with the extra drink cost, it's actually MORE expensive now overall. The value and "bang for the buck" of the location is now completely gone. I definitely will not be visiting again now.

I spoke with a Guest today at work over the phone who was making some dining ADRs with me and I noticed that she had Celebration BBQ for two days ago on her record... I asked her how it was.

She told me she loved it and would LOVE to do it again. I asked her about the price and if she thought the price was worth the value she got out of the meal and she gave me a resounding yes. I then told her that today was the last day for the format that she experienced and starting tomorrow it's lower cost but the characters were gone and that drinks and the dessert was no longer included and would be an extra cost.

She then told me that's a shame and that she will not visit the location again and that "we should have kept it the way it was because it was wonderful".

... yah, it IS a shame.

So cole slaw, beand and the meat and corn bread? still all you can eat? sound good to me now. I hate desert after I eat and I always have water with my meals. yummmmm do we need to make reservations for this??
we can now afford it!!

Well now that the price is lowered (somewhat) lunch with my PAP discount is more appealing. I won't feel like I am completely wasting $ on my 12 year old finicky eater.
Like you said teatime, I drink water and the cupcake thing was just to much to deal with for me too :thumbsup2
I am real tired of beating a dead horse...... But the simple fact that the place wasn't packing them in spoke volumes. No DL can't please everyone but they sure want to please the majority, that's where the $ is.

I am also one who doesn't usually get dessert and most of the time only orders water. And I will go to a place for lunch if it is cheaper than dinner prices. Add that savings to our AP discount and it's a lot cheaper (for me!) than it would have been before. I believe, including the AP discount, that would make it $11 cheaper so that's quite a bit less. I do agree with Sherry (and others) that it would be better to let people order things a la cart. All-you-can eat places (disney or otherwise) are always expensive and I don't feel like I can get my money's worth. I think DH and I will have to try the lunch one of these days though to see how it is.

Well, I guess at least I can say I got to eat there. I do hope to do another trip someday in the next couple years or so, although I can definitly say this is one place I won't be able to go to after enjoying it so much the way it was the first time. I hope those that like the changes enjoy the restaurant as much as i did before the changes... :)

I still plan to go there with our large party, although I am greatly saddened at the loss of the characters.

I hope it gets better publicity so it does not close before our November trip dates, but we shall see. It sounds a LOT like the old Big Thunder Mountain barbeque that used to be in that location, which also had a somewhat limited menu but good portions and a nice quiet location. Never understood why they closed that one. (this was before Toy Story was released).

Well as much as we liked the food we will go back with this new format. I'm sad that it's not a character meal anymore but we didn't eat the cupcakes that much, we only picked at them and only because they were included, and I am fine drinking water with my meal. So for us, add in the PAP % and it's a much better deal for lunch, even at DD13 being $19.99 because she LOVED this BBQ and would eat enough to cover it. :)

I'm gonna try it now. I think I will like it more than I would have with an annoying show, and a cupcake and soda that I did not need.

With no characters, we're out. We have plenty of options for lunch and dinner if you consider DTD. It already had a limited menu but the characters were a draw for us. We will definately mark it off of our list for November

Amen!! Im also going to try it now, heck all you can eat, way cheaper then tony roma's now ;) I will most certainly eat here now.

I have been very interested in this BBQ since day one.
The BBQ just sounds and looks (From images and descriptions that I have seen and read) to be so delicious, that I just cannot wait to sit down and enjoy it!

Said it before and I'll say it again. They just took all the fun out of this place for me. I went a couple of months ago & LOVED it & planned to take a group of 8 back for my birthday in September. The characters & cowboy cones were a huge part of the birthday party I was planning.

I will go to a different character meal for my celebration. I really feel that it was a value before. NOW I feel like it's overpriced. :confused3

Toddlers pay the kids price? How do toddlers work here, would htey be free cause its all you can eat.. and are paying per person? Just curious, cause we will be there and my son will be just shy of his 2nd b-day.

Thanks

I completely agree durantigger. This was going to be one of the major hi-lights of our holiday and we are very disappointed that it is gone.

To be honest I didn't think it was expensive at all. It was cheaper than the other character meals and looked so much yummier and more fun.

The price that they have now changed it to that does not include drinks, dessert or characters is waaaaaaay too expensive in my opinion. Before you were paying for the food as well as the experience, now you are just paying for food, and less of it. There is plenty of "just food" already in Disneyland.

So I will add my voice to the chorus of disappointment with durantigger :sad1: :sad1:
