Celebration Roundup to become Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue

I wish they'd just make it ala carte, then I could get a kid's meal and be fine. I don't do well with buffets, never eat enough to make it feel worthwhile.

I have been very interested in this BBQ since day one.
The BBQ just sounds and looks (From images and descriptions that I have seen and read) to be so delicious, that I just cannot wait to sit down and enjoy it!

Amen to that!! I can not wait, I want good BBQ forget the desert and I drink water, who cares who dances and sings, I want a good meal at a better price. Now I will have it!

In my opinion, this is a step in the right direction. I wish they'd put normal bbq sauce on the ribs, instead of the chili powder flavored version they serve now. I had high hopes for this restaurant when it opened, and was hoping that it would be similar to the way it used to be when it was an a la carte restaurant, but the food is just not up to par.

They must use a dry rub for the ribs as it's a very popular way to prepare ribs. I actually prefer them with a dry rub. But it's all a matter of taste. I'm from Texas and have alot of freinds and family that are competitive BBQers. I think that is why I'm not too excited about the BBQ anyway. The characters, show and cupcakes were the draw

Well it's not a "buffet" at all actually. It is all you can eat but they bring it to your table. I don't like buffets either but DBF loves them. What would be ideal would be an all you can eat option for a set price and then an a la carte menu as well, that way DBF could have his all you can eat and the girls and I could order from the menu.

Are they taking out *all* the entertainment, or just the character portion of the entertainment?

I think it's a great idea. I felt like all that food was too much to eat, but the price was reasonable for all you get. Now that they're lowered the price and made the dessert/drinks separate, I'll will make sure to check it out. Plus, if there's a time we want nothing but dessert/drinks, we can now go enjoy that as well. As far as characters, never much mattered to me personally.

I don't believe that one can order only the drink and or dessert.

I bet you could, I'm sure they won't tell you no if that's what you want.

We had booked the Roundup in Sept with our 4 yr old son so he could hang with Woody, et al. Hmmm... may decide to cancel this. Sounds ok, but the selling point is now gone. (at least I follow the boards from time to time; that would have stunk to get there after hyping it up to my son about Woody)

I heard it was just the character portion of the entertainment.

I don't like how it overall costs more than it did before. :( Though if you're not into sweets, I can see where it might not be a bad change.

I, however, AM into sweets. If they let you get JUST dessert and have all you could eat, I'd be there for sure. :flower3: Those cupcake cones looked so good!

this makes me sound old and grumpy, but I was really hoping that Miss Chris was gone too... annoying.

So cole slaw, beand and the meat and corn bread? still all you can eat? sound good to me now. I hate desert after I eat and I always have water with my meals. yummmmm do we need to make reservations for this??
we can now afford it!!

I'm with teatime too! I never would have eaten the cupcake...dont want it dont need it. And we do not drink soda. So to me, this is GREAT news! We loved the bbq they had there before. Now that the price is lower we're planning to eat here in 3 weeks :cool1:

Ok after so much talk about this place, I had to look up some pics.

K- these look incredible!
Are the cupcakes just placed in the cone or does the cake somehow go all the way down the cone?

Also, does the Roundup still give Celebration gift bags & souvenir sippers w/ kids meals?

Glad we went in June before all these changes. We really enjoyed our experience in June but now with the new changes, not too thrilled and won't be repeating. I can't believe that the fountain drinks and cupcake cones will be extra. I didn't see anything wrong with the pricing before with what all we got out of it. I'm not sure what was the big draw in changing this whole thing anyhow:confused3 Glad we went when we did and got the memories we did;)

I also agree that the pricing before was FINE figuring in the whole experience. I don't know why so many people made a big deal out of it being pricey before because it included ALOT of food and the whole atmosphere was AWESEOME:thumbsup2 Now, I know this won't be on our list anymore and it was one of my KIDS fav meals of our entire trip. I just liked how it was set apart from the other character meals we did while at Disneyland because of the BBQ aspect and Woody, Bullseye and Jesse, the piano man, guy on the guitar and the lady singing. It was just cute & old-fashioned and a change from the fast pace scene that oftentimes happens at the other character meals. It was quite relaxing and everything included was just another bit of why we enjoyed it so much. Very sad for the changes and to change something that just came out in June-

AND.....................the CUPCAKE CONES ROCKED and were a highlight of our meal:cloud9: especially the RED VELVET ones. Even my hubby who is kind of picky on desserts unless they are kind of plain like a chocolate chip cookie, LOL:lmao: LOVED the red velvet:love: They were his favorites. OH, to change something that didn't need changed is quite frustrating:headache: This place was about the WHOLE package and now I feel it has truly lost its MAGIC:sad2: Very sad!

I think the people saying it was too pricy consists mostly of people who don't do character meals (me included). So for those people it isn't worth it with the higher prices because they either don't want to visit with characters or it's not enough of a draw to them to want to pay more money. I also think all the people who thought it sounded pricey really wanted to try the food but didn't want the inflated price for seeing a show and characters as well. And I think that most of the people who are sad to see it change are people who do like to do character meals so of course that is the part that drew them in. They don't mind the price because it's around the same price (or slightly cheaper) than the other character meals. So I can see how some people thought the price was fine and others didn't. It's just a matter of what people enjoy doing while at DLR.

Exactly, LavenderPeach. I DO like character meals, but this was never an 'official' character meal, and this was not something I felt was worthwhile for me to try YET. I may have done it eventually, if someone else were treating me to it, but it wasn't worth it to me to spend that money. I would have rather done a real character meal with more food options. Disney never classified it as a real character meal (it is just what guests assumed it was because a couple of characters were there), so it makes it easier to remove the characters now.

This point has been made repeatedly by me and others, and as LuLusApple said, no need to beat a dead horse, but no one is right or wrong here. If some people say that the pricing was fine, the food selection was fine, the characters were fine, then it was fine for them. But another group of us may have thought it was not worth it for us, due to pricing, food selection, characters, entertainment, whatever the reason. No one group's opinion is less or more valid than the other group's opinion. It all boils down to what people feel is worthwhile for their family or their group of friends, and apparently there were enough folks who didn't feel the need to try Celebration because it is now changing.

By the way, didn't Celebration open back in April, and not June? I can't recall the exact month. Earlier this year, though.

I think they would have been better off adding characters rather than ditching them all together. I think the other problem was that the menu was just too limited. The price wasn't the issue for me, it was more that I'm not sure my boys would have eaten much and then been whining for food an hour later.
