Hi
Have any of you been to the disney inspired town of Celebration? If so whats it like and is it worth a visit ?.
Also, any info on the hotel and resturant/shop etc.
Thanks for your help

I've been to visit a friend who lives there, walked around downtown for a few minutes one evening. Lovely lovely planned residential community. That said.....it's where people live and I wouldn't spend any vacation time going to look at someone's neighborhood. Although I understand the folks decorate big for Halloween and Christmas......

My husband and I were just saying yesterday that we were glad we checked it out. We drove through on our way out of town in July. It seemed very quaint and we will probably go back and walk around next summer.

Please don't anyone take this the wrong way....but if you watch Desperate Housewives....that is pretty much what Celebration looks like to me. Wisteria Lane. (There is even a real Wisteria Lane there.) Very quaint town, but not my style.

You know... you are right. Too funny! :rotfl:

We visited Celebration for the first time this summer. Cute town. It was sorta fun to walk around and check out everything. The shops and restaurants are expensive. The thing that freaked me out was the music playing. There are hidden speakers through the downtown. Very, very weird. I agree - sorta a Stepford Wives feel.

We also popped into the hotel for a peak. As soon as we entered, someone approached us nicely and told us the hotel was closed. Found out later that day the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were staying there for training camp!

I'm pretty sure I saw the Cleavers going into one of the houses. If I had to explain it in one word, it would be "Sterile"

Thanks for the info-speaking to a taxi driver last time he described it as havin a Stepford wives feel. Is there any way to get there on disney transport?

He was right, and no.

BTW--I live in a new community, and we still have new construction ongoing. We laugh at all the "Looky-loo's" who cruise around pointing at teh houses. Lot's of them in rental cars, we wonder if they don't have anything better to do on their vacation. :rotfl:

It's a cheap, non-park day attraction;) AND! Bonus, the kids usually nap!!;);)
We're driving around feeling completely envious!! LOL! :teeth: :teeth:

Next time, Anne, I'm a Looky-Loo coming in for Lunch!!

Well, from someone who lives here - and has seen the movie - it's really not like Stepford Wives. But we get the comparison a lot. It's a real town, with real people living here - taking their kids to school and going to Drs appts or the post office. I think the comparison to Desperate Housewives is a little more accurate (tho I don't watch that show!)

This town has a heart and soul and it's one of the things we really love - it has some teeth to it. The people are really involved in the community, volunteering at the schools, and helping to organize the events that the tourists enjoy so much.

We enjoy sharing our town with others - after all, we were all sight-seers here ourselves at one point! ;)

We went there Nov 03 when it was all done out for Christmas and it was wonderful. We had always meant to call in on previous vacations but never did, so being there with all the white fairy lights and the 'snow' falling in Main St. sent a tingle up my spine. Not sure it would have the same appeal on ordinary days, although it beats my town by a million miles!

Bring along a bottle of Quail's Gate Chardonay and you've got a deal! BC provincial law prohibits export to the US, although an individual can legally bring it across.

We just bought a 2100 sq foot condo in Celebration with a water view on 2 sides. It is being built in Artisan Park, Celebrations last planned village. We hope to move in by April. It is a delightful community with atmosphere galore. I can't wait to be a part of it!

I've been there...some relatives of mine own a condo there. One of my aunts works for Epcot. It's a nice town but I wouldn't go out of my way as a typical vacationer to see it. I only went to visit my relatives.
Last time we were there, my aunt took us to a Disney Warehouse clearance sale there...all Disney merchandise at this warehouse type building was 75%-90% off. I don't know if I should be letting the public know about this though. :rolleyes1 I don't think my aunt wants her neighborhood being packed with tourists during the next warehouse clearance sale.

If you are curious about it and have some extra time, go see it, but it's a town (kind of a perfect little twon), and not much else. You can walk on some nature trails, have luch, etc. It could be a nice diversion. I'm sure the folks in the sales office would be happy to show you around...........
