Celebrating Our First Anniversary Contemporary Style! (COMPLETED)

Enjoying your report, as I have all the ones before. Congratulations on your anniversary, and best wishes for a lifetime of wonderful years and anniversary celebrations ahead! We did Chef Mickey's for breakfast on July 27th, and the characters were great. They spent a lot of time at each table and were spaced out nicely so that no kids had to wait for very long until another one came along. We got the birthday cupcake for Brooklynn and the Happy Birthday, along with two others who were celebrating. My picture is not as clear, but I wanted to show your husband what a bad influence he is with his table manners. Who teaches these people to eat like this?!?!? This is my daughter, BrooklynnsMommy, and her equally good manners. Oh well, I guess in this case, they can throw the manners to the wind and enjoy!

Our Final Day
Concourse Steakhouse & the Sea Racer

We woke up around 9:30am on our last morning at the Contemporary. I sure was going to miss this place! We packed up our luggage and DH brought everything down to our car, while I finished getting ready. We had late breakfast reservations at the Concourse Steakhouse downstairs, so we made our final trip down the elevator and said good-bye to our lovely room.

I had never been to the Concourse Steakhouse, but I have always seen it, so I was eager to try it out for myself. I knew it would be a great way to start off our morning! We still have a lot of plans for the day!

n25002324_32339177_1082.jpg

We got seated in the back of the restaurant in a quiet booth area, but we could still hear all the craziness going on next door at Chef Mickey's! :goodvibes

They had a great breakfast menu, but something definitely stood out! It was called the Sticky Mickey! We had to try it out! Our waitress said it was huge and fantastic! That was good enough for us, so we started our meal with the Sticky Mickey!

She brought it out and sat it in the middle of our table. I couldn't believe the size of it! It was like an amazing cinnamon roll! DH & I just ripped right into it! :rotfl:

We had a wonderful and relaxing breakfast. I had the strawberry pancakes with a ton of whipped cream. Yummy! She even brought me extra on the side! :goodvibes

Our waitress was really nice and even got DH some coffee to-go and got me some hot tea. We went and sat down at the lobby to relax for a little, and decide what to do next! We also dropped my flowers off at the front desk, while we were gone. They made a great decorative piece!

DH really wanted to go out in one of the Sea Racers on Bay Lake. I had never done it before either, so thought we’d go try it out. It was a great idea before we realized it was 100 degrees outside! :rotfl2:

n25002324_32339183_2591.jpg

We rented the boat for 45 minutes, but we were already drenched in sweat as soon as we got in. We decided to share a boat, which just slowed us down because we didn't get much of a breeze that way. :rotfl:

Besides the awful heat, we had a lot of fun out there on the water. I am so glad that I finally did it because it is so need to drive right under the monorail and you get a great view of a lot of things you don't ever get to really see.

More pics in my next post of our adventure on Bay Lake! popcorn::

The Sticky Mickey lookes sooooo yummy!!!! The sea racers so get you some great views. I haven't done them since the late 80's/early 90's and they were a lot of fun. I am hoping to try them out in Oct. Can't wait to see more pictures from your adventure.

The Sticky Mickey sounds super yummy!

I have always wanted to rent one of the Sea Racers but have never found the time to do it. It has always looked like so much fun though.

I've been looking for new things to do while its just DH & I and I think the sea racers would be right up his alley! Can't wait to see your pics!

OH

MI

GOD.

The sticky mickeys are at the Conscourse!!!!!! I had those when I was 10 at a family trip to the CR. And I thought that they didn't have them anymore. I asked about them when we were at Chef Mickeys and the waiter looked at me in confusion..

They are my FAVOURITE. They remind me of everything about disney that I love.

I read through your entire TR so far and loved every minute. I have to say, that while I was horrified at first that I had missed your TR, it was nice to sit back and deliciously read the whole thing so far.

What a wonderful time. Your DH was so sweet to get the Cinderella keepsake, and it looks like you just had a magical time.

Can't wait to hear then end.

Lindsey-
First of all, Happy 1st Anniversary!!! It's hard to believe that you've been married a year already! What a wonderful way to celebrate - staying at the Contemporary. :cloud9: I'm so glad you got your upgrade to the tower. They really did a great job with the rehab, didn't they? The pictures of your room got me even more excited to go back in less than 6 weeks!!! WooHoo! I showed my DH the pictures of you two in the hammocks, and he said that we have to find them and try them out on this trip. :thumbsup2 Not that we're going to have very much time to relax. LOL! :rotfl: Did you book any Food & Wine events? I can't wait to meet you on the 5th at MNSSHP. It'll be here before you know it. :goodvibes I've got to see a picture of your crystal Cinderella & Prince Charming anniversary present! How romantic! And the flowers!!! How did you not find out about that?!? They are gorgeous! Wow! What an amazing anniversary weekend. I think your DH is a keeper! :thumbsup2 (Then again, he's pretty lucky to have you, too! :) ) Thanks for another great TR!

Take care,
Michelle

Hi Michelle! :yay:

You just reminded me that I have to go take a picture of the Cinderella & Prince Charming DH got me. I'll go do that now! :) I'm not sure how great it will come out in a picture, but I will try. :goodvibes I just loved the Contemporary and I am so glad I was finally be able to stay there! I love it and I know I will be going back! :wizard:

I know I always loved watching them, but I am so glad after 24 years, I finally got out there on the lake myself! :goodvibes I'm hoping we can go do them again, once the weather cools down a bit. ;)

I'm so glad you now know where to go! It's time for you to make reservations at the Concourse for breakfast! I had no idea about them, but I sure do now! :rotfl:

I'm so glad you were able to join me on this Trippie too!

DW and I also shared a racer last year, I agree it slowed us down to much. You really need to do it solo to get some good speed and turns.

That sticky bun looked awesome, I want one right now. :thumbsup2

I am a little let getting in on this trip report. Happy Belated Anniversary.:thumbsup2 -- I cannot wait for the next installment

I finally got around to snapping a cpuple photos of the Cinderella & Prince Charming crystal DH got me from Aribbas Brothers. It's very hard to get a decent picture, but I did my bast! It's actually a complete 3-D image in the center of the crystal and "Happy Anniversay," our names, and Anniversary date were also engraved 3-D in the center. I have no idea how they do it! It's quite amazing to me! :wizard:

The Disney that was...
On Bay Lake

It was so neat to be able to go exploring around the lake and we got to get pretty close to Disney's Wedding Pavilion! I just love this view of it! It's so much more beautiful!

n25002324_32339189_4310.jpg

n25002324_32339190_4557.jpg

Then, I remembered Disney's Discovery Island! I use to love it there and visited it when I was a child. I remember you could view it from the Contemporary, so I wanted to go find it and get as close to it as possible. I wanted to do some exploring and see what was left of it. They use to have all kinds of animals on the island like, eagles, alligators, flamingos, tortoises, monkeys, and pelicans. There were also many different tropical plants on the island. It closed a while ago and I know they brought some of the animals to Animal Kingdom. That is why there is also a Discovery Island at Animal Kingdom. ;) Anyway, we found it!

n25002324_32339191_4804.jpg

It was so odd to see it just deserted and abandoned. It was like "The Lost World" and it was just there. Nothing had even been cleaned up or moved. The boat was still there from when the island had a "Treasure Island" theme.

n25002324_32339192_5053.jpg

Here is an original photo of the shipwreck. The Disney that was...
50b71f20.jpg

I was amazed that they would just leave everything there, instead of clearing it out and cleaning it up. It was totally over populated with birds. It was kind of eerie as we slowly pulled around the island.

n25002324_32339193_5315.jpg

Then, I said, I wonder if we can find River Country! It was Disney's original water park over near Fort Wilderness. After Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, it just didn't have a chance.

The Disney that was...

We made our way over to the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness area, hoping to be able to catch a glimpse of River Country. We spotted it!

n25002324_32339194_5582.jpg

n25002324_32339195_5829.jpg

It was totally run down and it was all just left there! I know I had heard rumors that they may bring it back for Fort Wilderness' guests, but after seeing it, I don't think so. It was so sad to see it because it brought back so many memories and it was just nothing now.

I hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane and the Disney that was...:wizard:

Wow! Some amazing before and after pictures. Sadly, I never got to see the former "glories".

Yea...another trippie!!! I'm a little late to the game, but enjoying your report, as always!

Wow, I don't remember Discovery Island at all.......however, River Country definitely takes me back to my childhood! It looks awful now!

I just read the whole report and it sounded wonderful!!

I liked your part about the Disney that was. I grew up in the Orlando area and we would take field trips to Discovery Island. I have some pictures around here somewhere....hmmm....if I can find them I will try to figure out how to scan them and post them. That will be a new adventure for me :lmao: .

Wow!! What a load of pixie dust you both received! How fun!!

Ahhhh River Country...that used to be so much fun. How about the slides at the pool that just dropped off about 10 feet above the water??? Those were some great pictures of the wedding pavilion. I also really like the Cinderella and Prince Charming crystal you got...so sweet.

Lindsey, I love  the Cinderella and Prince charming your DH gave you! your DH is such a keeper does he have any friends for me?! lol JK! Anyway that piece is really beautiful!

I love your "The Disney that was". My first visit to Disney World was when I was 5 in 1992 and I don't remember Disney's Discovery Island :sad1:. It's sad to see how they just let the island go though and didn't even clear it. I hope that they don't do that to any of the things I love now. But Disney is ever changing isnt it, Thats the way Walt wanted it..so I guess its bound to happen :sad2:.

Anyway I can't wait to hear about the rest of your day

Wow, you guys had such a wonderful 1st anniversay!! CRT sound great as always, don't you just love the champagne glasses. we got them for our 5th anniversary. it is just a magical resuraunt, weather you are celebrating a special day or not!!!! this is why dh just loves this resturaunt, well also for the prime rib. i can't beleive that YOU lost your food pics.i forgot to take them there, except for out apitizers and deserts. to much excitement wih dh's basket!!!!

~sue
