For our second ABD, our family of four will be traveling to Ireland in June 2017. We will be celebrating our oldest daughter's high school graduation, our 20th wedding anniversary and my birthday. We are very excited.

We are starting to look into options of going early to explore before our adventure. At first we thought we would go to London a few days ahead then fly to Dublin. Now we are thinking more of going Dublin and hanging out. I would love to hear other people's experiences with this adventure.

THANKS!

Very exciting. I would focus on Dublin itself. There's plenty to do that isn't covered by ABD. Kilmainham Jail was my favorite.

Fly direct to Dublin with Aer Lingus

Now look up www. Paddywagontours.com

I would check out the Glendalough tour

or Newgrange tour.

Then do as the previous posters have said & add Trinity Collage for the Book Of Kells

IF you have More Time ( Please do ADD time ) then there are more sights to see

AND other Day Tours to do

Take a tour to Belfast & see The Titanic Experience

Now if you really have time Come South to Cork & I will show you around

But you will need a rental car

Need any more ideas & where to stay .... let me know..

Try the Best Western ( 2 of them ) in the center of Dublin

Again Please make contact for more info.

Thank you, everyone, for your replies. We are very excited. We have never been to Ireland.

Woodview, my husband's grandmother came to the USA from Clogheen in 1918. Do you have any idea if it would be a valuable use of time to rent a car and visit there? We think it is a very small town.

Thank you for the link to the tours. Our daughters will be 15 and 17 at the time of the trip. The oldest daughter is very interested in museums and history. Our youngest daughter loves music. She plays piano and trombone. Would she be allowed to go into pubs to hear music?

It sure seems that adding more time in Dublin would be the best use of our extra days.

My family will be traveling to Ireland in June 2017 as well. We will have the first full day in Dublin, arriving early that morning. My plans include Trinity College, Grafton Street (two DDs that like to shop), Temple Bar. Maybe Kilmainham Gaol if enough time. Is the Jameson Distillery doable? Also, we will be staying an extra night at Dromoland Castle. Any suggestions for that day? I was thinking of trying to get to Ennis for the day. Or I wonder if we can rent a car, or get a driver at the hotel who might show us around, maybe the Dingle peninsula?

If you go to the jail, which I thought was fascinating, I recommend going right when they open in late morning. After that the lines get long.

Clogheen is about 40 miles from where I live. ( Ronald Reagan was from next village Ballyporeen )

It is in the Triangle of Cahir Mitchelstown & Lismore.

Yes hire a car ........ Stick Shift ... And other side of road driving.

Remember although the drive could take 4 hours each way YOU will miss out a lot of great sights.

So take extra days to really see the country.

There are many fine Bed & Breakfast places to stay

To Mouthdoc,

Trinity College ............ Yes.

Grafton Street ... Do you really want to shop & buy what you can get at home ?

Temple Bar ..... AVOID AVOID ..

Collins Barracks is the Museum to visit & The Guinness Storehouse & Kilmainham Jail

Extra Day in Dromoland Castle ......... Forget Ennis ..... Take a Tour Bus ( Paddywaggontours.com )

to The Burren & The Cliffs of Moher.

Followed by a Medieval Banquet at Bunratty Castle .

..................................................................

An EXTRA DAY & EXTRA DAY 's .... add More Days to see The beauty of Ireland

There are Many Many Fine Hotels , Bed & Breakfast & Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast places

to stay at very good rates

We did a walking tour that started at Trinity and went through Temple Bar and other areas explaining the history as we went. I enjoyed that. I thought Grafton St was fine to walk down, and the park at the end was lovely. It's not a terribly long street. I guess it depends on how much shopping you're doing, but it probably won't take much time. We ate a great restaurant, Boxty, in Temple Bar for lunch. I enjoyed walking around the area during the day. We had some cool pictures taken in the area. At night I would avoid.
