Celebrating Birthdays at WDW

I'm taking my children to Disney next week and I have a question for all of you :) Not only are my kids and I celebrating becoming a 'forever family' through adoption (finalized December 26, 2007), but my fabulous kiddos agreed to give up having birthday parties and prezzies from Mommy earlier this year (February and May) in order to take this trip and celebrate all these wonderful events at WDW.

We are planning on celebrating each event as a family one day while we are at WDW. I'm wondering if there is a policy on the 'birthday buttons' at WDW. I don't want to 'steal anyone else's thunder' so to speak, but my kids have waited a long time to celebrate these things, have come through so much with more still to face (both have some medical issues as well), and I'd like to be able to give them a little bit of pixie dust this way. They are old enough to understand this but I wouldn't want to go against any policies or anything like that.

Soooo, long story short, is it ok to 'say' they have a birthday while we are there even though their true birthdays were earlier this year since the kiddos agreed to postpone celebrations until our trip???

Thank you for your thoughts pixiedust:

You can get birthday buttons for all of the kids if you wish. People do wish you HB a lot so it might make you feel a little weird to keep hearing that if it's really not your birthday.

If you all are celebrating something special on one day and you're having dinner somewhere you might want to call the restaurant and let them know ahead of time.

You can order a specialty cake and have it sent there and many times the rest will decorate the table and celebrate the event with you. Last year at CRT I bought my DD one of those chocolate slippers to celebrate someting and they had our table all decked out in confetti shaped like castles and carriages. Plus all of the Princesses signed her a special paper to honor her special occasion. They don't just celebrate birthdays at WDW. :)

There are numbers (I'm sure someone on here can help you get those) to order your cakes, candies, whatever. Another time we ordered a cake over at Crystal Palace and they put streamers all over our table....just call and see what can be done. Have a great trip! :cutie:

i just answered this question somewhere else too! ::yes:: disney doesn't check i.d. cards for exact birthday dates, i promise!

here is the thread for special order cakes (i haven't done it yet myself, but considering it for our next dec trip):

if your family, and especially your children, considers this trip to be for their b-days, then here's what i recommend:

- call wdw-dine and ask the CM to note on each of your ADR's that it's your children's birthdays. you will be pleasantly surprised everywhere you eat!

- make sure you stop at guest services at the first park you visit (DTD is an option too) to pick up a Birthday button for your kiddies! even GUESTS will wish them happy birthday during your vacation!

- if you're staying on-site you might want to let your resort know too (i've never stayed on-site with my DD)

i tell you all of this because last October we celebrated my DD's 5th birthday in WDW. some restaurants had the table decorated with confetti or ribbons, the castle gave her a birthday magical moment, EVERY place gave her a birthday cupcake (some with candles!), some sang happy birthday with characters or CM's. she got about 5 different birthday cards (1 was signed my pooh and his friends, one by mickey and his friends, 2 were princesses, mary poppins and alice, and 1 was a variety with woody, monsters, jiminy cricket, etc). some CM's handed her a phone to hear goofy sing happy birthday to her. some of the cutest moments were when other kids who recognized her pin would approach her and wish her a happy bday!

our trip was for oct 17-24 and my dd's actual birthday was nov 5th.

the ONLY downside is that next year, like my DD, your little ones will want another bday in disney world!

(this also applies for anniversaries...we took a trip nov 10-12 with my folks and celebrated both of our wedding anniversay which is 11/8 and theirs is 12/13)

Thank you both for replying!! I have called today and added a chocolate slipper delivered at CRT to celebrate my DD's birthday and a cake for BOMA to celebrate out family! I'm still trying to get through for a special treat for my DS but I'm sure it will happen! pixiedust:

Thanks again! :goodvibes
