Celebrating birthdays 3 months later?

I'm sure they got rid of the "today" part because too many people were lying about it. I think it would be great if they still had both, but only gave the TODAY version to people who could prove that their actual birthday is that day.
Please don't underestimate Disney. They WANT people to "celebrate" their birthday and it doesn't matter when that birthday was. Disney doesn't ask you if you're celebrating something just to be nice, people who "celebrate" are far more likely to open up the purse strings and spend money on the celebration. It purely business even if they end up giving out a few cupcakes along the way to birthday button wearers.

Totally agree with this statement. I, for one, would never wish a person "Happy Birthday" when their birthday is 1, 2 etc. months away or has already passed. Unfortunately, there is no way to know at Disney so I never do to people wearing the birthday button. I also think this would be fair where all the freebies are concerned. The cm's would be able to make an educated decision. I have a feeling if this was the system in Disney everybody who proved their birthday was on the actual day would get some sort of pixie dust and make their day even more magical. Unfortuanately as it stands now it is a hit or miss because the button is a generic birthday button and is worn by huge amounts of people.

My problem is when people take that unearned "specialness" and decide to exercise their desire for attention multiple times through the year. Somehow I doubt that anyone wearing a belated birthday button at WDW actually missed celebrating on their actual birthday.

You have a very valid point. But lets flip that around. How would you feel about someone that went on vacation during their actual birthday with the intent of celebrating their birthday at Magic Kingdom. But their friends at home, knowing they would not see this person on their birthday, have a party for them a week ahead of time.

As others have pointed out. The button doesn't actually say "It's my birthday". Going around saying "It's my birthday", yes, that is a lie.

Celebrating your birthday on another day is not a lie. You may not agree with it and that's fine.

My son's birthday is on a Monday next month. However, since my wife and I have to work and he has school, we are having his party on Saturday. Using your opinion, we are liars. If that true, I'm OK with that.

For the record, historical research shows Jesus was probably born in September. So any one that celebrates Christmas is a liar.

The Birthday pin implies that the person wearing it is having a birthday- it implies that it is on the day that the person is wearing it- if you want to wear a Happy Birthday pin on a day that is NOT your birthday, go ahead! No one will be the wiser...Its all good :thumbsup2

This is so true!

It seems to me that button wearers can be broken down into 3 groups.

Group A: people whose birthday is today.

Group B: people whose birthday is NOT today, but they are celebrating anyway

Group C: people whose birthday is NOT today, and they are trying to maliciously deceive

We can probably all agree that Group A are OK and Group C are liars. We're probably split on Group B (with some thinking there is no difference between B and C).

With no personal knowledge of anyone I come across in the parks wearing a button, I would wish them a Happy Birthday if the mood struck me. Are there going to be some "liars" in there? Probably. But I would wish someone a Happy Birthday despite the liars and not remain silent BECAUSE of them.

You're new here. Stick around.

haha, there are dumber threads than this? people calling others liars for wearing a birthday button on heaven forbid a day that isnt their bithday, its really funny and sad all at the same time but mostly sad

I'm in Group B :goodvibes

We physically cannot make it down to WDW during our actual anniversary, so we always go down a month earlier, in September. It is our actual anniversary present to each other, regardless of the date. :thumbsup2

Oh my, we have the stroller threads, giving up your seats on the bus threads,
liberally using the fixin's bar for a meal thread, claiming your child is under 3 when he is 5 but very small thread and many more. Yes, we are indeed very entertaining and it's all free for your enjoyment!:lmao:

P.S. We used to have the refillable mug threads which were by far the most hilarious but, darn it, Disney went and spoiled those by introducing the new chip mugs.

those sound good but this one has set the bar pretty high or maybe low :p

My only claim is that the mindset that leads people to do this ("I deserve to think of myself as special because I am at WDW") is the same mindset that leads to other problematic park behavior, such as line jumping.

Are there some people who have the mindset that you speak of? I'm sure.

Does that mean *everyone* who wears a button when it's not actually their birthday/anniversay/whatever celebration has that same mindset? No. That's what you refuse to acknowledge.

FTR, we don't jump lines, or participate in any "problematic park behavior.". Again- just because it may be true for *some* doesn't make it true for *all*.

I use the button to cover the hole in my chest where my heart used to be.

this might be the silliest argument ive ever seen

I am following this thread with much amusement, but these really tickled me!

I think everyone (even adults) should celebrate their birthday - show the kids the whole universe doesn't revolve around them alone and give each person a day to be special once a year.

However, Preach on Alvernon! I agree completely. The only reason to wear a button, wave a flag, hang a banner, put up a billboard, put your birthday on facebook, wear a sash - is so that others will see it and you get attention!

We were at Disney for my DD's 10th birthday. On her birthday, she wore a Happy Birthday pin and received many well-wishes from people. So many, in fact, she took the button off.

When I asked her the next day if she was going to wear her birthday button she said "no, why would I? It isn't my birthday." :confused3

I would only wear a birthday button of any sort (WDW or not) on my actual birthday.

For a child, I would only have the child wear the button on his/her birthday OR if there was a party scheduled.

I don't really care what other people do. In WDW, though, if all I see is a button, then I probably won't comment on it because I will assume it isn't actually your birthday.

No, actually, that's NOT the only reason. I didn't wear mine because I wanted attention. In fact, I often dislike it when there's a lot of attention on me. I wore it as a celebration with my family. I didn't care if anyone else acknowledged it. I wasn't expecting special treatment from anyone at Disney. I just wanted to create fun memories with people who matter.

You don't need to wear a pin to celebrate with your family.
