Celebrating birthday at Disneyland?

We're hoping to celebrate my daughter's 4th birthday at Disneyland this year (oops, next year 2002) in May. Any suggestions on where/how to celebrate in Disneyland Resort area? Are there any special arrangements that I can make?

We have done 2 family birthday parties at Goofy's Kitchen at the DLH. Perfect for that age group, with food that appeals to all age levels. the Characters and CMs sing happy birthday, they bring a little cupcake with a candle... there are lots of parties in there, lots of happy campers. Honestly, with the yummy desserts in there, you really don't need a big cake.

Also, be sure to go to Guest Services inside the gate, get a Birthday Button. People will smile and say Happy Birthday all day long! Very nice! Sometimes they also give a special birthday front-of-line pass (one time use for one atttraction) but this is variable.

Is there a cost for the 'party' at Goofy's and what does it include? How do I make the reservations?

It is a fixed-price character meal, a nice buffet with lots of kid-appeal. We did not pay for the cupcake and candle. Birthdays are standard in there. When we were there, Alice in Wonderland and the Mad hatter were there, and coincidentally enough, it was their unBirthday. You can have your travel agent make the PS, or call them from the resort. I forget the price - it isn't cheap, but it is right in line with other character meals at all-you-can-eat places at WDW.

We just got back from DL. Had an 18th birthday Christmas Eve. Found out from the reservation line that they could connect me with a balloon provider. Do not know the company name sorry to say, but they delivered a bear & fruit basket along with balloons. On time, while we were out - they were waiting for us when we got back from the park.

You can make "Priority " dining reservations up to 2 months in advance. The number is 714-956-6755. Also if you stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel you can get room service to send up Chocolate Mickey Mouse Ears with the persons name on them (they need 24 hrs notice). hope this helps...have a Disney Day!!!inkbounc

PSs are for any of the sit-down restaurants that take reservations in advance. Not sure if the new character meal at Avalon Cove would be a good place for a birthday. Hmmmm....

I do recall seeing a birthday party at the character breakfast at Plaza Inn, but I recall thinking it didn't seem to be as good as the ones we had at Goofy's kitchen. Just not as personal, very noisy and busy.
I wonder about Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney... no experience there, maybe somebody else knows?

I had tried to get reservation at Avalon Cove and at that time they weren't taking any but that was right after it opened. As for Rainforest Cafe, we ate there and was not impressed with the food or the prices. The staff was not well informed on what credit cards they take and what they don't take. I would go with Minnie and Friends at Paradise Pier or Goofys Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel. Have a Disney Day!!

In the official Disney book it said to add $5.00 pp for the Goofy Party(p115). Is this the same party or is more included than a cupcake and candle?

The Goofy Party includes birthday hats, a balloon centerpiece, and a goody bag with some little toys. I would imagine they also pay some special attention.

We did not buy the extras, we just told them it was our son's birthday and they gave the kids hats, paid some extra attention, and brought cupcakes for the birthday boys (my son and nephew). They sang Happy Birthday and made a big deal for a minute or 2. It was pleasant.
