My husband's birthday was this past Monday. He turned 30. It really kind of snuck up on us this year. We have had some crazy things happen this past month. I was wanting to do something special for his 30th, but never got around to planning.
Our first dinner is the night we arrive at Boma. Would it be a dumb idea to tell them we are celebrating his birthday and have a special thing for him?? Will they bring him a cupcake or special dessert??

I think that's a nice idea!! I would let the restaurant know about his birthday and see about special ordering a dessert or something!!

I don't think so at all! I think that's a great idea, a perfect special thing for him.

As far as the restaurant bringing out special desserts, I think it depends on the restaurant & your server. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.

When my husband and I celebrated our anniversary a few years ago, Boma was the location that did something special for us. We had a wonderful server that brought a really wonderful plate of desserts out with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. It was one of the highlights of our trip! I would say let them know about your husband's birthday! I can't guarantee that they would do something like that again, but you never know! You could always order a cake, I have seen some amazing cakes from the cake thread. Whatever you choose, good luck to you!:thumbsup2

There's no guarantee on the "special desserts", and I've really found it to be hit-or-miss. DH and I celebrated our 20th Anniversary at Disney last month, and even though we noted the anniversary on each ADR (4 in total), only the waitress at Kona did something special for us. We didn't have any expectations, so the Kona surprise was pretty special.

I would say that if you want to guarantee something special, you might want to order something yourself; or try to arrange something with Boma.

Have a wonderful trip!

We had breakfast at Boma for my birthday in Sept. The hostess brought me a beautiful card signed by the staff in their native languages and I received a wonderful plate of treats towards the end of the meal. It was delightful! :goodvibes

This is bad, can't remember what they brought and it was only about a month and a half ago! But I think it was one of those cupcakes with the mickey sprinkles. Honestly, I preferred the desserts on the buffet, but it was a very nice gesture and I really appreciated it!

And it is very hit or miss....at Jiko, when it was our anniversary, they didn't do anything for us, but we have had "special" treats at many other places, including Boma, CP and Kona

When we were there in April, I let the server know we were celebrating my parent's birthdays (3 days apart) and he brought out a plate of chocolate covered strawberries and some other stuff too, i think.

You can also order a cake if you want to...just call ahead and they will get one either from the Grand Floridian and have it there for you. We did this for my son's 3yr old bday as we needed a special cake made without flour, butter, milk or eggs and they made an awesome bday cake with Cars on them!

This is what they gave my son in '06 at Boma for his graduation celebration:
