Celebrating a birthday at Disney

My DD1 will turn 6 next week while we are at WDW. Any tips on how to make it extra special for her?

We added her birthday to all of our ADR's, and told the customer service person when we made our reservations. Do I need to tell the CM when we check into our hotel? What about when we check in at restaurants?

We will be eating at CRT for her birthday lunch. I really can't afford to spend so much $ on a cake for 4 people when we can't even take the leftovers with us. Will they do a cupcake or something like that?

Definitely tell the CM's when checking in at the hotel and restaurant. On my son's bday when we returned to the room there was a card from mickey that they left on the table. We made DS5 bday special by going to Walmart prior to the trip and buying disney themed bday cards and then signing the characters name that goes with that card. We also bought disney themed plates, napkins, cups and stuck them in the luggage. the day of the bday my DH took our son out of the room ahead of me and I placed the cards on the table and the party supplies out and then later that night we had a party for him in our room and he thought it was Mickey's doing.
As for CRT we had dinner there for DS bday for age 8 and the dessert was make your own sundae. I'm not sure what's included with lunch but the dessert was fun for dinner. You might be able to order the chocolate slipper as a special dessert for her and then there wouldn't be leftovers to carry? As PP stated TELL THEM. Dont forget about the birthday button from guest services. At CRT in 2009, was Mum's B.Day (60) and they gave her the birthday cupcake with mickey sprinkles and candle. It was a lovely thing for a special day.

DS will turn 8the week after we leave. Would it be bad if we told them we were there celebrating his birthday if it wasnt his day yet? Were sort of celebrating everyone's birthdays. Mine was April, DDs was May, DHs is in June and DS is in July.

When you put in a wake up call for your birthday remind the CM that it will be your birthday, and have the birthday girl/boy answer the phone when the wake up call comes in, I guarantee it will be the best wake up call ever.

I'll never forget my 40th! Back in the old days they had buttons for each park that said Happy Birthday. I woke up to an amazing message for the wake up call, then headed to Studios, picked up my button and put it on right away. So many CM and other guests wished me a happy birthday all day, next stop was MK and again another button, again the same well wishes, final stop was EPCOT and one last button. We were staying at BWV so we stopped in at Le Celier to make our dining reservations for that night, when I gave the name they said really is it you, we have a message for you and they handed me a the phone, yup another magical message from guess who?

Happy birthday to your daughter! Sadly I haven't ever celebrated a birthday in Disney (as of current) so can't offer any advice. I bet it'll be an amazing day though!!

My boyfriend turned 30 while we were at WDW - the birthday was noted on our reservation and when we checked in the CM at Wilderness Lodge gave him a birthday button. Mickey left an extra special voicemail on our hotel phone. The next day there was a signed photo of Mickey in our room.

Various restaurants gave a birthday cupcake: 50's Prime Time Cafe at lunch, Whispering Canyon at breakfast, Akershus at dinner.

Cosmic Rays staff sang Happy birthday. At Akershus Royal Banquet all of the Princesses signed a birthday card for him and presented him with a cupcake on top of the dessert we ordered. I think this was due to the fact he was wearing the birthday button and a celebration had been noted on our ADR.

We also got a great table at the Wishes Dessert Party - not sure if that was coincidence or not.

And random people in the park would wish him a happy birthday when they saw his button. The funniest time was when the monorail CM said Happy Birthday Nick! Nick and I had confused looks on our faces (how does he know his name??!) Duh... the birthday button had his name written on it. I would think most kids will think it's Disney Magic that all the characters know their name

We have gone several times on DS and DH's birthdays. We ordered a cake at Chef Mickeys and it was terrible, still frozen and tasted awful! So not worth the money. Some TS restaurants do a birthday cupcake with a candle, I know CM and CP both did them during the celebration songs and a character actually stopped by to help blow them out! CP also had a birthday card signed and confetti in our table for our ADR. We've even ordered a diver at the Coral Reef (is that the right name?) in Epcot who held a Happy Birthday sign one year. Very awesome, they gave DS a birthday sundae there. But the best was during a MVMCP parade where Santa noticed DS birthday button and pointed to DS from his sleigh during the parade and wished him a happy birthday! I still get teary eyed thinking of that special moment. It was DS's 4th birthday and he was so excited because Santa knew it was his birthday (DS had no idea the button "helped"). Just even more pixie dust at WDW!!!

Why not go to Downtown Market place and go to design a t-shirt store and have a shirt made up there for her,

When DD turned 16 we were at EPCOT. We ate lunch in China at Nine Dragons (her choice and a good one. They have the best Jasmine Ice Tea...in fact I prefer that to regular ice tea now) and a few days before lunch, I called and ordered a small 8" cake decorated with a flat screen print of Ariel (her favorite) since it was just us and Grandma and Grandpa. I made t-shirts for everyone to wear that day that had her pic on it and said it was her birthday. We also got her a Birthday button. The button is what did it, so many people wished her a Happy Birthday...it was awesome! One of the many reasons I love Disney
