Celebrating 2007 with two weeks at the World...with pics; updated:a Day at MGM!

Yea!!! I'm finally caught up. I never thought about doing the pin trading because I thought it was cost too much. But now I'm rethinking that. How much do pins usually cost?

Typically $6.95 - 12.95 although the fancy ones go higher. The kid's lanyards are about $4 and we bought a $4 keychain as a weight instead of the more expensive ones. You can also buy inexpensive sets of pins to get them started trading.

However, if you still have time, I'd hop on eBay and grab some. You can get them very inexpensively and they'll have a blast! Make sure they have the "Disney" mark on the back though or the CM's can't trade.

I found your TR this morning and it has been sprinkling Pixie Dust on any otherwise looooooong Tuesday. Some things made me laugh out loud, then clap my hands over my mouth when I remembered I'm here sitting in my cube and not sitting somewhere in the House of the Mouse.

Some of my favorites...

2006? Not the best year. Not the worst year of our lives, by any stretch, but when DH and I sat together on New Year’s Eve this year I thought to myself, “You know…2006 really sucked.” I turned to DH and said, “what did you think overall of 2006?”

“It sucked.”

It’s moments like this when I am reminded of why we’re together. We think alike.

This was one of the laugh out loud moments. I certainly don't mean about your misfortune, but just the simple summary. My BF is the same way. A man of few words...but you know what they say about 'great minds' and all.

And in the middle of all of this, I plan and ask DH his opinion and read him menus and disregard his opinions and the go back and listen to his opinions and then compromise. And then I cancel and rebook. And as I look at these plans and type them up I realize that after this trip I will never, ever have to eat again.

This was an image of what it will be like if I am ever able to get the BF down to the World with me.

But it still makes me feel sad, because they have seen the suitcases and the multiple bowls of water and the bowls overflowing with food and the extra litter boxes...

As a fellow kitty mommy, I can relate. Only my girls sometimes give me 'the look' even when I'm simply leaving for work in the morning. Although I know for a fact they'd rather be home than at Grammy's house with 'THE DOG'.

I just happened to capture the scene while taking photos of the landscape. Yeah. The landscape.

Um...four times.

As a big time solo tripper, I've observed 'the meltdown' more times than I can possibly ennumerate on the boards, since I spend a lot of time people watching. The topic should have its own thread. Since I'm not a mom (yet - maybe someday) I can't fully sympathize/empathize (I can never remember which is correct and am too lazy to look it up - Bad, BAD English Major! :headache: ). However, the only time these meltdowns are unbearable are when the parents are also having a co-meltdown and behaving as poorly as the children. Big sign to go back to the room and rest!

I told him she apologized for walking past us. Be asked again, “but what did she say to you??” I then realized he though she said I was fat. I explained that she didn’t call me anything and he seemed satisfied.

My Hero and Defender.

Sweetest. Thing. Ever.

Goofy got sucked into an Appliance Direct Ad until I threatened him with divorce.

The BF and I are commercial junkies. But I can certainly see this happening to us...

Before bed, however, we sat on the balcony and watched Wishes over the trees.

I didn't realize you could see any of Wishes from the BC. I'm thinking of staying there on my trip next October (:guilty: my ticker doesn't make me happy yet...is there such a thing as WAY to early to start a pre-trippy...that could be my therapy!).

Great job so far. Can't wait to read more!

Ahh...Super Target....

The main difference between Target and SuperT is the full grocery section. ST has a full deli, produce, meat dept, frozen foods - anything you'll find at your full service grocery store. They have two of their own brands: Archer Farms and Market Pantry and you can often get national brand foods for lower prices and still great quality. But it's the variety I love. You can get amazing ethnic foods and just ridiculous varieties of everything else. Super Walmart is a full size Walmart with a full grocery, but it's more like low prices and saving money over the regular groceries (which is great and I confess we go to ours to save tons especially on the frozen foods) but ST is high quality, variety and price. Some of the items are downright unique and gourmet and I love just browsing through the grocery section to see what's there.

At the same time, they have everything else you need for your household: clothing, movies, cleaning supplies, toys, cards, etc. It tickles me that I can buy homemade sundried tomato focaccia bread, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD, socks for DH, premade steak kabobs for the grill, a new swimsuit, deli salads, fresh fruit, a birthday card and a new vaccumn cleaner at the same place.

It's the little things....:rotfl:

WOW!! I wish we had a super Target here in NY:sad1: I would really love it! I dont think people want super walmart or target here, they protest it i believe. I guess it puts alot of places out of business, I know my local supermarket would probably not have mine any more.

I would love a SuperTarget. I love Target. There are a lot of protests against a Super Wal-Mart going up here in Liverpool. A small-town grocery store said they would have to close if it was built. But I say too bad. That small-town store is too expensive! Give me bargains!

Thank you for your wonderful comments - I really appreciate them! And welcome to the TR!

Yup, we could see the very top of Wishes from our balcony. Max and I went up the elevator with our neighbor in the room next door one afternoon and he mentioned it. From then on, if we were in the room, we watched. You could see a lot of the full out fireworks and it was great!

I spent some time there this afternoon after meeting my dad for lunch. I had run out of the Market Pantry sf bubbly water and needed more. Whew! Supplies restored.

Plus I got to browse a while.....:woohoo:

Back story:

Losing my mom when Max was a baby affected our lives in so many ways – among the many, many ways was a tighter closeness between Goofy, Max and me. My Dad loves Max and enjoys being with him, but he never got into the changing diapers thing and then Max was often a handful as his ADHD grew. Dad was dealing with so much on his own and so we rarely asked him to watch Max. Then it became a habit to just always bring Max with us wherever we go – store, restaurants, movies (when appropriate). Only on rare occasions (weddings, our anniversaries, Christmas shopping, PG and up movies we had to see like POC I and II, etc) or the occasional afternoon vacation days we would take just to get things done, we’re always with him. So not many “dates” for us.

However, Dad is happily remarried now (to a woman I love and my mom would have handpicked for him, had she ever met her) and Max is doing great on his meds so we’re working up to an overnight stay…WOO HOO!!

But in the meantime, back in 2005 Goofy was counting the days until Max was 4 and old enough to go to the Kids’ Clubs. Max is very outgoing and loved the idea so he was pumped and ready to go. In fact, telling him he had to be potty trained to go to the Kids’ Clubs was instrumental in success! So when we took him down to WDW as a surprise trip for his 4th birthday, the very next day (which was also our last night) we signed him up for the Sandcastle Club at the Beach Club.

And DH and I? Yachtsman Steakhouse. And I think DH was looking forward to the steak almost as much as being alone with me… We ended up spending more time in the pool at Stormalong Bay, and although we were able to bump Max’s appointment at the Sandcastle Club, we opted not to change our ADR at Yachtsman. I think maybe Goofy cried a little at the loss, but we ended up going to the Boardwalk and then eating a salad and sandwich from the BC Marketplace while I spent the whole time worrying about Max.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Take II

Last year we made the ADR for Yachtsman and this time, come hell or high water we were going! And so we did. It was a more elegant atmosphere than the other WDW restaurants and a bit more masculine. The host and hostess’s service was abysmal. So much so that I almost got up to leave. I was concerned that our server would be equally as bad. The CM that came to seat us was very nice, and fortunately our server was great too. I felt like a naughty slob a bit when he came to sweep the bread crumbs off the table when we’d finished our bread, but I pretended this happened every day and got over it.

The food was very good, we had a nice date. But I remember throughout the last half of the dinner there was a solo male diner seated across from me but over several tables. He ordered a glass of wine before his meal and stared at me over the glass. It was hard to ignore. Goofy thought it was funny, but I was creeped out.

Nonetheless, dinner was excellent and after a nice trip around the resort we picked Max us and went back to our hotel (VWL at the time I believe.)

So this year Goofy insisted I again make the coveted ADR and I did, looking forward to it, but willing to cancel if something came up. Thank God I didn’t!!! This was, by far, the best meal I had the entire trip….!

We stood outside after checking in. We were dressed in the mid range of possibilities. The restaurant is business casual. I had on a camisole top with a light sweater, a skirt, and sandals. Goofy wore a polo shirt and dress pants. People near us were wearing dresses and shirts with ties….and others were wearing T-shirts and shorts.

There was a woman who was there with her daughter – who was apparently celebrating a birthday. She looked to be about Max’s age. She was not happy about the wait and her mom gave her the “I’ve had it with you – I’m at the end of my rope!” talk. I tried to innocently pretend I was not listening and thinking “Been there!!” But then the mom got snippy with the grandparents and her DH and I thought, “Hmmmm….maybe she’s having a bad day?”

I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the little girl when she started to cry. She was at WDW, having a birthday dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. And her mom was tres cranky. I’ll bet the little girl was wishing herself over to Chef Mickeys…:sad2:

Soon thereafter they were seated and then so was the large family of T-shirts and shorts. Next it was our turn and we were guided way to the back of the restaurant where we had a lovely table for two next to the far wall. Goofy was able to gaze into my sunburned face and I? I was able to look past him into the galley where the servers go on their way to the bar.

Niiiiice…!

(please note swinging wood doors behind him. If you want to know what's in there, just ask. We saw more activity going in and out of those doors that at the pool :rotfl: ) (On another note...isn't he CUUUUTEE!!! )

Our host had told us our server’s name and yet he appeared to be elusive. Another server, not our primary, came to welcome us. She was rather reserved and then I noted that her nametag said she was from our city. Not just Wisconsin, but the actual city on our address.

I mentioned this and she told me she only lived here until she was 8 and then became even more reserved if possible. I told DH I felt like we should have worn our park clothes so we could more accurately reflect the Midwestern Hicks she seemed to think we were. I waited for her to come sweep up my bread crumbs....

However, when she came to take our drink orders and I asked for a raspberry mojito the reserve changed. Ahhhh….it was the DDP and the fear we would order nothing OOP that made her so reserved about us, not the fact that we knew the city of her birth.

Okay, so maybe I’m making all that up but it sure SEEMED like it!!!

There was a family of four at the table next to us who had just gotten in that day - the kids (3 and 5 maybe?) were getting into pin trading and our elusive male server was charming them something fierce. Once he left them, they started chatting with us and it was fun talking to other parents. It also made the restaurant feel less formal.

Or secondary (yet possibly primary because the elusive one only stopped a few times to see if everything was okay...?) server brought out the bread – sourdough rolls and onion pull apart rolls – that are served with butter and roasted garlic. YUM! And my raspberry mojito was excellent as well.

I’ll put the whole meal in my dining review and maybe add it here later, but it was truly the best tasting meal we had the whole entire trip. And our server really did warm up to us as we wore her down with our manners and friendliness. By the time we left, she was scrambling around to help me find something to transport the while chocolate castle from my dessert so I could bring it home for Max.

After dinner we went back to the room to watch some TV before going to get Max and hearing all about his evening. It was a very good night.

Thank you so much for your wonderful report. I am getting a wonderful Disney fix. I love the detail! Your son is so cute. I especially like how he doesn't just take baths, they are BUBBLE baths. Ahh, brings back childhood memories. I can't believe the next time we go will be with a little one (I'm due in October). Disney will be a totally different experience for us from here on out! I can't wait!!

Yep, sure :rolleyes1 So, it wasn't a real date then ;)

Sounds like you had a great night together - it is lovely to have time to yourselves to be Appletini and Goofy, rather than Mom and Dad. Another great installment - and, you know what, I am so glad you've still got a week left :)

Just for you - I highly recommend you have one of these! They have them at every restaurant/bar we went to. Regular, Raspberry or Pineapple:

I love your last paragraph!!! You are so right. I love that little man and better than that I LIKE him, but sometimes? Appletini and Goofy is just what we need to be...

I love how you talk about your DH it's so cute, Joh you are a naughty girl :rotfl2: It seems really weird how the server treated you, normally they love talking about where they're from:confused3

Awww! That's so sweet! I'm glad you got your 'date night dinner' at the Yachtsman. I totally understand your back story. We didn't have any help with our kids when they were little, and as a result, we took them everywhere with us. Date night was a foreign thing to us. (We've made up for lost time since then, :rolleyes1 and have had several 'adult only' long weekends - your time will come, don't worry! :goodvibes ) I'm glad the food was great. We went to Yachtsman for our Christmas dinner, and it was good, but not as good as we expected it to be. I do love that onion bread with the roasted garlic & butter. MMMMMMMM! Aside from the poor table location, it sounds like you had a wonderful night! :thumbsup2

I know it - isn't that weird!!! We love to chat about the "froms" on the nametags - especially if they are from Wisconsin or the Chicagoland area. When we shopped at the Poly after dinner from 'Ohana, we had a long talk about Chicago Suburbs and Wisconsin based on questions about the origination of our last name (which is Greek), which led to chatting about hometowns and such. It was great! I was also really surprised that she
had on the name of a city she only lived in until she was 8, too. :confused3

We totally enjoy our time with Max, but oh...date time is so nice too! DH and I dream of taking a trip to WDW again someday with just the two of us. I have no idea when that will happen, but I know it will.

I remember your review of Yachtsman for Christmas! That was very similar to our experience last year. Good, but nothing like I expected. I think that was why it was so incredibly good this time. I went in with marginal expectations and they were so surpassed.

I have to tell you Michelle...I love your TR's. I have them subscribed and I really enjoy reading through them to get pumped for our trips. Our next vacation is at Christmastime and so I especially like that one. Your family seems so very, very sweet and close.

(And I love Dave Barry, so I'd have been right there with your DD in excitement over those books! :thumbsup2 )

Not a lot of photos of early today – I don’t bring my camera to the pool and that was most of our day.

Today was our last full day at the Beach Club Villas. It was also rest and relaxation day. We always try to have a day where we hang around the pool, enjoy what the resort has to offer and just play everything by ear. I have to say that here is a “downfall” to the way I let the DDP affect our plans. Every night we had an ADR scheduled and I forgot to leave open a few days to use up those CS credits and just go with the flow. So we had talked and decided that today was the day. It was our second to last day to really enjoy Stormalong Bay, but we knew that the next day we would be moving to VWL and trying to settle in so today was it! The day before I called and cancelled our Fantasmic dinner package at Mama Melrose. So this day? We got up and got our swimsuits on. On the way to the pool, we stopped and got breakfast at Marketplace to share by pool. Max had packed some apples and Goofy got us a ham and cheese omelet croissant sandwich to share, along with orange juice and a diet coke for me.

We got to the pool, got our wristbands and towels and sat down to have some breakfast. We all hopped in the lazy river for a while then and just relaxed. It was a great morning and early afternoon in the lazy river, on the slide, in the kids’ pool and hanging out with a good book and a soda while the boys played together in the kid’s pool. This day was especially fun for a lot of the kids at the pool – there was a CM shooting water pistols with them and chasing them through the kids pool and then once he stopped, he invited them to all come into the island in the middle to build sandcastles. After this, Max was a little cold and tired, so he came out of the pool and he sat with me while Goofy got us lunch from Hurricane Hannah’s. I told him to surprise me and he ended up picking this fantastic chicken flatbread with sundried tomato hummus and vinaigrette greens, blackened chicken, tzaziki, etc. It was great! He also brought us a couple of lava pool drinks: A combination of strawberry daiquiri swirled with pina colada. YUM! Sweet and tart perfectly blended. We get the virgin style, as Max has traditionally shared a lot of this with us. On this day, the strawberry garnishes actually perked him up out of his tired and almost sad mood. When Max’s medication wears off, we’ve noticed that sometimes he gets a little sad. This happens most often when he is tired. He was very cuddly and insisted he wasn’t hungry and just wanted to go back to the room for a nap (which is unheard of from him!). He didn’t want any of Goofy’s cheeseburger or chips, didn’t want the chocolate chip cookie, nothing. We bundled him up in his Buzz towel and promised we’d go back to the room for a nap as soon as we were done with lunch. He was okay with that. And then? Goofy offered him his strawberry garnish. Max refused it. A minute later I offered him mine. He snapped it up and it was almost like night and day. He danced around and “stealed” Goofy’s strawberry. The Fruit Bat strikes again! ;)

And then? He ate some cheeseburger, chips, and cookie. And his mood was much more “up”. We ended up having a great late lunch by the pool with lava drinks and then, as promised, went back to the room so Max could have a veg/nap.

When we got back to the room it was around 2:30 and not surprisingly, Max no longer wanted his nap. He did agree to take a nice long bubble bath, where he had a blast playing with his toys and bubbles.

Goofy had a phone call message on his cell and when he retrieved it, one of his clients was calling him about problems on his computer.

Sigh. :sad2:

The client had been out of town before we left after promising a payment, so we didn’t get the check Goofy had invoiced for 3 months previously. Now he was calling us on vacation to help him out. I was not happy. Goofy worked on the computer via phone on the balcony, while I DISed. I then decided to check our DVC reservations for the November trip since I had quite a few waitlisted days. And my mood blackened even more.

Remember when I said I’m one of those DVCers? The kind who calls day to day at the seven month window for reservations outside SSR? Well I had continued to do that and here’s where we stood:

Wed Nov 21: SSR (waitlisted for VWL)
Thurs Nov 22: SSR (waitlisted for VWL)
Fri Nov 23: VWL
Sat Nov 24: VWL
Sun Nov 25: VWL
Mon Nov 26: VWL
Tues Nov 27: BCV
Wed Nov 28: BCV
Thurs Nov 29: BCV
Fri Nov 30: BCV
Sat Dec 1: BCV
Sun Dec 2: SSR (waitlisted for BCV)
Mon Dec 3: SSR (waitlisted for BCV)
Tues Dec 4: SSR (waitlisted for BCV)

When you call day to day, some of the reservations are booked one by one, and some MS CM’s link a few of them. Goofy and I talked about it and decided we wanted to move November 27 from BCV to VWL so we’d be evenly split 7 and 7 once the WL’s came through (which we were and are confident of, since it was very early). I called and asked to waitlist for VWL on that night and that night only. I asked for it to be automatic.

I went to check on the waitlist, and much to my delight, the VWL waitlist had already come through for the 27th! WOO HOO! :woohoo:

And then I looked closer. And the Beach Club for the 28th and 29th had disappeared. We had no reservations anywhere for those nights. :scared1: I immediately called MS and asked what happened.

Well…the 27th, 28th, and 29th had all been linked in one. And when they cancelled the BCV for the 27th to switch it with VWL, they also cancelled the 28th and 29th.

ARGH!!!!!!!!

I had no choice at that time but to book SSR again and WL for both VWL and BCV. I was pretty angry, but stayed polite. I didn’t push the issue, because I do believe in the waitlist and darnit, I was on vacation! I decided to take the matter up when I got home and I hung up. (And also - if we end up at SSR for the last half of the vacation, we'll be just fine. We love it there too).

We had decided we were going to go to the DVC Neighborhood mixer over at BWV, but I decided to research it on the DIS while Goofy continued to support a non paying customer out on the balcony  and I simmered over the DVC waitlist/cancellation. The DVC DISer didn’t seem overly impressed with the Wednesday meetings, so when Goofy came back in, I suggested we skip it. He was okay with it and we decided we’d rather do Epcot.

We walked over and did Soarin’ first and then Living with the Land again. I had thought we could have Max and Goofy ride Mission Space and Test Track (Max was begging to ride M:S again) and then have dinner grazing through the World Showcase. But as we left the Land, Goofy asked if we could try to get into Coral Reef since Max (and Goofy) had really liked it and Max had been asking if we could go there again. Since we’d cancelled Mama Melrose, I called WDW-DINE. It was a fun conversation – I was sitting outside The Land at Epcot, making the call I usually make from in front of my laptop at home. The CM was really great and she asked us if we were already IN Epcot. I said yes, and she said she was able to get us in at 4:10. This was way too early for me, but Goofy said it was fine with him so I took it. She said “see you in a half hour!” and we hung up. I was surprised we got in – they had been turning people away when we had been there before so I didn’t think we’d have any luck. We told Max where we were going and he was excited and perfectly happy to put off M:S and TT. We had time to do one more ride first so we did Imagination and then walked over to Coral Reef. Dinner was good – too much for too early, but good nonetheless.

After dinner, we went over to the Nemo ride again (so cute! And I love Peach at the end) and then Goofy and Max rode M:S while I shopped at Mousegears and waited for them. We then walked back to the villas and took a few photos of the F&G festival:

We have a contest at work for "water photos" so I gave it a try myself:

I love the floating flowers and always had - I thought they'd be a perfect photo for the contest.

After enjoying the topiaries, we decided to go back to the villas so Steve could soak in the hot tub(excellent therapy for his legs) and I could pack for VWL and then go to DTD. Instead, after I packed I felt really, really sick for a while. Max curled up to watch the old Disney cartoons while I vegged and ended up feeling better. We decided that we wanted to go meet Goofy down at the villas pool so Max and I put on our suits, grabbed a few drinks and went down to swim for a while. The water was really nice, but for some reason on this trip, I could only stay in the pools for about 20 minutes at a time before I was freezing. We moved over to join Goofy in the hot tub and chatted with two really nice couples. It was an interesting combination: we had the three of us on a Mom/Dad/child vacation. Then we had a couple who were alone without kids having a nice romantic vacation. And lastly, we had a couple who were with 14 other family members (including their own children) on a Magical Gathering trip.

Max started acting up, so he and I went back upstairs while Goofy soaked longer before coming up. By this time it was 9:45 and too late for anything other than relaxing and going to bed, so no DTD. And that was fine with us.

When Goofy came back up, he got dressed and then went down to the Marketplace for a late dinner/snack. We sat up, ate some of what he brought up, and watched TV for a while before ending our day.

Overall? It was really a great day. There were frustrations, but we were at DISNEY WORLD and it’s hard to stay upset at our Happiest Place on Earth.

A combination of strawberry daiquiri swirled with pina colada. YUM! Sweet and tart perfectly blended.

I swear they call these things something different everywhere I go. I was in the Nassau last February at Senor Frogs and there it's called a Miami Vice. I've seen it go by other names too.

I don't care what they call it. I call it yummy.

Great installment!

What a great trip report!! I understand about Max's ADD- My DD9 was finally diagnosed with it at 7, after much suffering by all parties! Sounds like you had just an awesome time!! I LOVE that sour face!:goodvibes I am tempted to buy those for my kids just to get a picture that face when we are there in August! I have not measured DS5 yet, I figure he has a couple months yet to grow- it will be tough- he and his brother are two of the smallest in their classes, and I am taller than my DH- (one of those things you don't think about when falling in love-will out kids meet the height requirement to go on the rides at WDW someday? :rotfl: ) I loved reading so far- wish I could write as well as you can. Keep it coming!~popcorn::
We don't have a superTarget close to us, but I know what you mean! Employees at my local Targe pretty much know me by name know, since I am there at least once a week just roaming the aisles. I have been tempted just to get a small part-time job there just to be there! :lmao:

I just saw this pop up here.

And, I gotta say: I've just been reading your Dining Report and just LOVED it!!!!

In fact... I phoned Disney and booked us into the Coral Reef for our upcoming trip.

Because we love us some cow too!!!!

I'm in here, too.

Cheers, Mel.

Jenn, sounds like you had a lovely chillout day. So frustrating about the WL business with DVC - I am hoping we won't experience the same problems for April - I think we will probably not bother to waitlist if we can't get in at 7 months, we will stick with SSR and be quite happy.

I swear they call these things something different everywhere I go. I was in the Nassau last February at Senor Frogs and there it's called a Miami Vice. I've seen it go by other names too.

I don't care what they call it. I call it yummy.

Great installment!

We just love them - DH buys the frozen Bacardi mixes and we make them at home now...and at home after pouring some out for Max, we can add the rum ;)

I've thought about getting a PT job there to feed my WDW addiction and for the store discount. If my real job wasn't so crazy, I think I would.

Hmmmmmm......

Wecome Mel! We liked Coral Reef so much we did it twice - I'm on my way over to the DReport to add the photos from the second meal.

You'd be amazed at the WL Joh - we've been stunned by how many times it has come through for us. But you're right - SSR is wonderful on its own!

Loved the recent installments. I really long for a day we can take such a long trip and have days just to veg by the pool. It sounds sooo nice!

We enjoyed Coral Reef when we were there too. Good eats!
