OK- I know that when it is your birthday you get a pin and lots of attention from the CMs... My DD will turn 10 on Halloween and we are going to WDW 1 week before to celebrate. (School schedule prohibits us from going on her actual birthday) Can we pick a day to call her bday celebration and get the pin... or does it have to be her actual birthday?

I say do it...

Make her feel special and have fun. Pick a day.

Our anniversary is in September but I work 7 days a week, 12 to 15 hours a day from June to September, so we celebrate on November 19th. (the day we started dating) and we tell everyone it's our anniversary...It's important to us to celebrate the day even if it is 2 months late...( not at Disney but at home)

Get a button from each park and have an extra special time.

I agree, we will miss my DS's birthday by 4 days but we are celebrating there. Do a search for birthday and you will come up with lots of people saying GO FOR IT!!

I was planning on going January 2006 during dd's birthday and mine (our bdays are 6 days apart from each other), but I'm probably going in October now. Would it be a problem if we celebrated our birthdays 3 months in advance? No one would know, right? ;)

(I'm j/k...no need to start a debate)

But seriously, I think celebrating a week ahead of time would be fine. Birthday parties are hardly ever held on the actual birthday. :)

I say celebrate! My DS's bday is in June and we went to WDW in May last year. I had already asked DS what kind of bday party he wanted, and he told me that all he wanted was to have a small family celebration while we were at WDW! I got a bday button at MK for him to wear. It was a month early, but the sentiment was the same. You won't be abusing anything, you'll just get some extra magic. Have fun!

Here's another vote in the "Go for it" camp.

My birthday is November 20th, and my anniversary is December 3rd. Every year, my DH and I go down at the end of October or the beginning of December for the Food and Wine festival. Every year we celebrate at least one of the two events. I've never gotten a pin, but we've had a bunch of "Magical Moment" dinners.

And, as far as I'm concerned: an anniversary or birthday at Disney is better than one at home. :)

I have celerated my 50th at WDW...just a little late, about 29 days late. But, I didn't get a pin or anything. Now, we did celebrate my dd's 6th b-day in WDW, but she turned 6 on that actual day. She got a special cupcake and a card at Crystal Palace. We will be celebrating two girls 13th b-days in 2006. My dd will actually celebrate on her birthday at HDDR. The other girl will turn 13 the day after we come home...so, we are including her in dd's celebration. Are we looking for anything special to happen? No, maybe a Happy Birthday mentioned at HDDR but if it doesn't happen, we won't mind. Just being there, in WDW, will make it special enough. I think too many people go into it looking for something special or magical to happen for their child, and when it doesn't, they feel gypped. So many post here about some wonderful things happening for them. But we need to remember that these things aren't WDW wide. It can all depend on the particular CM you run into at any particular moment.

Thanks! This will be fun! Maybe I will do it the day we do MNSSHP since it is very Halloweenish and that is her actual birthday.

We celebrated my daughter's birthday a week early at WDW. We just picked a day and used that as her birthday. We did not do as some and celebrate it for the whole trip but just picked one day. You really don't get all that much "special" attention but the button and some nice comments from CM, is a nice plus.

Have a great trip and tell her, "Happy Birthday"!

We had to postpone our WDW trip 3 times since
last year! First, we were going to celebrate our
10th anniversary (right after),
then DS's 2nd birthday on his actual day (1/31).
When I called to re-book for April,
the CM chatted with me while the system took it's time.
I told him my brief reservation history,
and when the system came up he said he was
going to put in that its was DS's birthday,
and the CM at the Priority Seating number did the same thing.
Honestly, it was just simple conversation,
and both of them decided for themselves to
make a note of the birthday.
So, with that information I'd say GO FOR IT, too!

We've "celebrated" my daughters birthday at Disney every year since she was born. Problem was was that our season passes were blacked out on her birthday every year because usually Easter is the same time. So we went 2 weeks before or after her birthday and picked one day as her special day. But this year Easter is early and we are checking in the DAY she turns 4!!! Can't wait, I think it's going to be 100% more special to be there on her actual birthday.

My older dd unfortunately has a birthday usually around the first few days of school so we really are just unable to celebrate her bday in Disney. Before school starts, the passes are blacked out and after you don't wanna miss school that quick after starting. We usually go in Sept but to me that is way after her bday to celebrate. I feel bad but she's never really noticed... yet.

All 3 of our kids' birthdays are in December, one the 31st, one the 4th and our new addition on the 9th. We have always celebrated them in the month of June because with Christmas its just too much and I hate it when people just lump their Christmas and Birthdays together, so they have "half birthdays". We usually rent out our public swimming pool and have a pool party. This year it just happens that we will be going to Disney in June and we are keeping with our birthday traditions there. So my DS will be 8 and a half, my DD will be 6 and a half and our baby, who is staying home with Grandma by the way, will be 6 months.

My DGD turned 10 today. We arrive at WDW on the 17th. Would that be to far out for her to celebrate her birthday?

She is disabled (not physically, but is diagnosed with FASD, ADD and RAD) She has no real concept of time, so celebrating her birthday on the 17th would be fun for her. It would be nice for her to get special recognition since her mom and dad are not involved in her life.

I just don't want anyone to think we are taking advantage of there wonderful Birthday celebration.

TIA

I am going a week before my DD's sweet 16. I have made all PS, and let them know that we are celebrating her birthday. I think since WDW is not an everyday event for most of us, if you get to go anytime near a special occasion...CELEBRATE!!! Have a great time!!

We've done this twice while on Disney Cruises - when I asked if we could - the server said "as long as it's within 364 days of the actual date!" - so that was their way of saying go for it!

No one would think that. I also agree to go for it! I am raising my nephew that has autism and we are doing the same thing in June.

My daughters 5th birthday is the day before we leave and we will be celebrating it while there, same as if we were home, her party would be that weekend after.

My 40th birthday is in September, but work/school schedules have us going in November. My gift is the trip. I'm calling it my birthday party. I'm sure everyone would cooperate for a 10 year old.
Happy Birthday and have a wonderful trip.

We went the first time on my Dad and brother's birthday a couple years ago. Their actual birthday was the day we arrived (Feb 28) so we ate dinner in DTD. But when we went to the parks later in the week and I mentioned to the CM at guest services (while I was getting maps) that we were visiting in celebration of their birthdays, she insisted my dad have a birthday button. He turned 71 at the time.

First day he got lots of "Happy Birthday" wishes from CMs and park visitors. Really made him feel like a kid. When we had our group character meal (at Crystal Palace), we made sure to tell the server beforehand. She delivered birthday cupcakes and signed cards for my father and brother after our meal. And when Piglet led the hourly birthday parade, my father was handed an instrument and invited to dance around with all the 4 and 7 year olds. It was fabulous! He also received a phone call from Goofy at the Fort Wilderness camp store, and one CM handed him extra Mickey bags as a belated gift.

It's true that the birthday button won't get you ahead of a long line or free stuff, but it is a way for others to notice and recognize a special day. As long as you want to celebrate your daughter's birthday in Disney, go ahead. There's no age check.

My birthday is in October and we always travel in March. So I never get to celebrate. Too much competition. If I could, I would like to.

J;)
