So I was just thinking. I'm having a friend join me in March for my Disney trip, and there is a possibility that they may be getting a divorce around that time frame.

Soooooo..... With all the Celebrate button options Disney has (Birthday, aniversary, etc), Is there one for a divorce?

i'm thinking it might be fun/special to see them get the extra attention and "Disney Magic" that comes from a Celebrate button.

(On the flip side... depending on how nasty things get, I realize that the potential reminder could aggravate a sour spot, but if they are in a good mood about the whole thing, it could be a fun little "plus" to their trip.)

They have a button that just says "I'm Celebrating" and they can write in anything. Though I might be inclined to write something like "a new life", "change", "freedom", and/or something similar.

Cool. That answers the question. I wasn't sure if I remembered the "I'm Celebrating" buttons having the blank spot.

And ya, IF I suggested it to them, we'd probably go with a less....blunt... item being celebrated. Too many people who probably wouldn't understand and might give them a hard time if they just said "Divorce".

At the same time, that's why I also mentioned playing it by ear on their mood. Something more subtle like "freedom", "Change", or "A New life", would likely end up with several people asking (with no bad intentions) how so. If it's a sore subject, the constant reminder wouldn't be conducive to a happy magical trip.

Oh.. .and just realized I forgot to say THANKS!

so....

THANKS!

On the day after my bad seed niece turned 18 (releasing me from legal ward/guardian obligations), my badge read ABOLITION

No more night court for me unless I'm in the hot seat! A 'Just Divorced' button could be a great conversation starter. It's almost as universal as breathing - who can't relate?

How about "Rid Of Ex" ????????:lmao:

Well.. I'm going to assume all the people walking around with the mickey groom/ minnie veil ears, as well as the "just Married" buttons, probably couldn't quite relate to the "Just Divorced" button as well as they do breathing.

I just had this great idea for a reason to get a button myself on my next trip. You can just picture it. "I'm Celebrating! I Saved 15% on my Car insurance."

Valid point - unless they are multiple attempt adventurers.

"...the triumph of hope over experience" - Samuel Johnson on second marriages

More questionable opinions on the institution here.

When they were still running Celebrate Tonight on Pleasure Island, they handed out buttons that asked, "What Are You Celebrating?" You could then write the answer on the button below it. Divorce was probably not uncommon. You could try to find a blank one on Ebay!

How/where do you get the Celebration Pins? DH and I are celebrating our 37th anniversary. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

I think the button is a great idea. Having been through divorce and coming out the other side happier and better (and now remarried) here are few few suggestions from me depending where emotionally your friend is at the time of your visit.....

I'm Celebrating -

"the new chapter of my life"
"my single self"
"being my happy self"
"being out of the drama"
"my own greatness"
"living without regrets"
"change"
"putting my life back together"
"taking care of me"
"turning into a butterfly"
"a dream of happiness"
"the hope of tomorrow"
"never giving up"
"building a new heart"
"my own strength"
"a whole new set of possibilites"
"believing in myself"
"new opportunities"
"not being where I used to be"
"being true to herself"
"regaining her life, spirit and soul"
"turning stumbling blocks to stepping stones"

You friend need not tell anyone anything, just give a wry smile and repeating whatever words are chosen for the button.

That seems easy enough - thanks for your help!

I've been reading trip reports and am making a spreadsheet for all the things we want to accomplish. Now I can add this tidbit of info into it.

I understand the intention you are trying to achieve and offer the following suggestions to be "delicate" about it:
Celebrating not being married any more
Celebrating not being married after xx years
Celebrating being single...again

Have a great time on the trip

Last time I was there (July 2010), I was visiting Guest Services in Downtown Disney with an AP friend who's going through a divorce so I jokingly asked for an I'm Celebrating My Divorce button for her, and before I knew it, the Cast Member had written "My Divorce" on a button for her. The D was even the distinctive Disney style!
