Tikiman pages is reporting (including pictures) that they have removed the ceiling fans from rooms at the Poly and replaced them with a light. I always thought that the ceiling fans give the resort more of an upscale feel along with comfort obviously. I seems that Disney just keep taking away amenities that set them apart from other resorts.

Correct. And they are not being installed in the refurbished Yacht Club and Coronado Springs rooms either. They too are just getting a light. Going forward they will not be in any WDW resort rooms.

Agreed this is a bummer. We really liked the fans at POFQ. It helped with the motion sensor AC ( which isn't WDW excuslive, ran into it at Marriotts, Hyatt and Hilton properties)
We have them at home & use them at least half of the year at night.

I'm not a fan of fans, but my husband will be disappointed.
Is there a reason for the removal?

I've got 2 theories.

1. In preparation of going from the 3 current resort levels to location based classifications, they are bringing resort room amenities closer together. Which would also explain the Values getting towels at the pools, coffee makers in the rooms, etc.
2. The fans are dust collectors. Removing them and the carpets (so far only in resorts currently going through a room refurb, but will be the norm going forward) make it easier for housekeeping to keep rooms clean.

Or a combination of the 2.

I agree about trying to tie the resort amenities closer. But don't see people taking to this as well. Them trying to convince you a room at Pop is just like one at Coronado. No thanks.

They aren't outdated in FL. They are a necessity.

I live in SC and have ceiling fans in my house that we never even turn on. If you have/use air conditioning, ceiling fans are not a necessity.

Yes, you're right. Most hotels are cursed with those motion sensor things on the AC now.

We went to an independent resort over Spring Break and they had them. However, we called about them and they sent maintenance to disconnect them and by that I mean the guy took off the front cover and pulled the wire out so the sensor wasn't connected anymore. It was wonderful

I never even noticed them. Did Beach Club have them? Did they turn on automatically when you switched on the light?

Most if not all of the WDW hotels have them now. Honestly it depends what time of year we travel whether they are noticeable or not. During the cooler months, they are no big deal. During August they can make the rooms miserable at night
