I'm currently just starting my 7 days of cefalexin, which is very strong and known to frequently have some side effects in the majority of people who take it. It basiclly makes people MOST feel like they have the flu for a week, is what I was told by the nurse today.

Anyone take it and NOT have any side effects? I'm wondering. I really wonder how great of an antibiotic it is if it makes everyone feel sick?

Is there a reason why they prescribed that and not anything else?

The few times my kids have taken it, they were all so sick to their stomachs.
DS is allergic we found out the hard way.

See how she does the first few days, if not well, I'd be asking to switch to something else, unless there's a good reason for it.

I took it for a skin infection, the only side effect it gave me was a terrible sensation when I burped shortly after taking it. It was a weird sensation that rocked me from head to toe because of its strength.

Is the brand name for this Keflex?

If so, I took it once and had to stop after two days. Lots of RUNNING to the bathroom if you catch my drift....

Ceflex (cephalexin) is my favorite antibiotic. I've had no side effects, unlike many other antibiotics.

I've taken that. I didn't have any problems as long as I didn't take it on an empty stomach. When I did take it without eating I regretted it.

Wouldn't it be better to get your information on this antibiotic from your pharmacist and the doctor, and his nurse, who ordered the medicine? All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects.

Drugs.com, medicinenet.com, rxlist.com and many other web sites give side effects of Keflex, Keftabs etc which is a cephalosporin antibiotic that has been around for a long time. Having said that, your pharmacist would be a great source of information and would provide contraindications, warnings, and drug interactions specifically for you.

I have found this particular antibiotic to be the most effective for sinus infections. I have never had any reaction to it. I have taken it many times.

Oddly enough, it's one of only a handful of antibiotics I haven't had some sort of reaction to over the years. Others? Stomach problems, rashes, and in one case even anaphylaxis.

But cefalexin/Keflex? Just fine.

I do not take any designer antibiotics. I had a horrible reaction to one and unless I need one to save my life...naw!

Designer antibiotic, what are you talking about? It is a class of cephalosporins that is targeted to kill certain strains of bacteria.

Designer.....it is funny how much people "know" on the net.

I had a severe allergic reaction...broke out in hives all over. It was terrible.

This is exactly what happened when our dd was 4. Her torso felt like sandpaper, and she ran a high fever. Her doctor said it was an allergic reaction.

I have tkaen it in the past (multiple times) and it usually has me in the bathroom (but I have IBS to begin with).

Make sure you eat at least 1 container of yogurt daily while taking it, it may help decrease some of the stomach upset (and if you are a women, an uncomfortable side effect of a yeast infection!)

Yeah, I've spoken to these people, the DR. and the nurse at the same time, both told me that "flu symptoms- bathroom problems, sick to the stomach" are normal in a lot of cases.

I just wanted to hear from people who have actually taken it before. I know that stomach issues are normal with this, but I also know that I NEED to take it if it's going to work. For me, it helps to hear it from other patients who have been on it in the past, because 1/2 of the time these printed "side effects" sheets are a bunch of bull.

well i don't remember what exactly it did to me when I was younger but i do know that i have it on my list of allergic medications along with augmentin. honestly cant remember and would love to try it again but nope too chicken.

i want to say with one of them it was just a rash i think.

I've been sick now for two days, on it for 2 1/2. I've not left the house. It's not an allergic reaction, just side effects. upset stomach, hard to eat, but I have to eat before I take it, or i feel worse.
