They have some wonderful resorts on property, but they can be pricey in the summer busy weeks. So depending how much you are willing to spend, I would just stay on site, if not they have a holiday Inn near by, which I stayed at once, and it was not bad, especially just for a place to sleep.

They also have a discount property called Breakers Express located just on the mainland side of the causeway. It is clean, the closest hotel to the park not on the mainland, and you still get the benefit of the early admission for resort guests (you'll want to take advantage of that). My wife and I have been staying "on point" for years - you're in the park, seconds from the rides - but it is pricey. All the Cedar Point hotels have package deals including tickets and coupons - check out cedarpoint.com for all the info. They also send their Getaway Guide with coupons for Canadians to certain postal codes - call 1-800-BESTFUN.

If that's not what you're looking for, nearly every major motel chain has a property minutes from the causeway, although some charge about the same as Breakers Express. And keep in mind if you're going specifically to check out Maverick - their newest coaster - it has encountered serious delays in its construction and will not be open for a while. Of course, even without it they still have more coasters than anywhere else on earth ...

The news about Maverick is disappointing. Too many lateral g's, I've heard, so it needs some reworking. We're waiting for it to open before we go again.

We stayed at the Breakers onsite. It is nice being onsite and having everything right there. It is definitely more pricey though.
