Cedar Point Unveils 'Maverick'
Coaster Reaches Top Speed Of 70 MPH

CLEVELAND -- A new ride will be unveiled at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio, in the spring, WEWS-TV in Cleveland reported.

Officials made the announcement on the amusement park's Web site at about 3:30 a.m. They said, "The Old West was never this wild."

The new ride is called the Maverick, and the ride will take guests to a new frontier in 2007, according to the amusement park's news release.

The ride is located in Frontiertown, and guests will begin the ride by boarding steam-era-styled coaster trains.

The train will reach 105 feet on the first hill, and then take its passengers to a 95-degree angle at speeds of up to 57 mph to within 5 feet above the ground. It also has a tunnel where it reaches a top speed of about 70 mph.

"This ride is going to have a lot of twists and turns, air time, low to the ground," said Monty Jasper of Cedar Point. "You see once you ride it it has a lot of speed yet doesn't achieve that by going very very high."

The station reported that Cedar Point pulled together $21 million to build the ride. The ride lasts about 2.5 minutes.

The early phase of Maverick's construction began last year when the park took out the White Water Landing flume ride.

The new ride has been in the works for about three years.

OH this is so exciting!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes
I haven't been there since 2001, DH and I spent our honeymoon there! Sounds like we need to really plan another trip there!!

Thanks for sharing!! :cool1:

They're driving all of the non coaster fans away-there is not much to do other than coasters anymore. We haven't visited in about 5 years for that reason.

Well Cedar Point is called in the tagline "Americas Roller Coast"... this is good news.

105 feet and 70 mph is pretty tame though compared to Dragster/Milennium.

Thats because this is a diff type of ride. Its meant to speed along close to the ground and through narrow canyons

So that is what they are building. I went in June with my son's 8th grade class and they were tearing down the old flume ride. I wondered what was going to go there.

I am so glad to see what was going on with the old log ride. My dh is in heaven now. We go every year. Our love of rides. When we were there in june we asked everyone what was going up and no one would tell us. Thanks for the info. My dh is already planning our annual trip for next year. LOL

We went at the beginning of this past summer. Now all DS can say is, "When can we go back?" (We live in Alabama, so a trip to Cedar Point isn't exactly an easy ride!)

Sounds pretty similiar to El Toro.. with the twisting. El Toro is good, the best wooden I have gone on.

Jeez, I never been but I see the park featured on the Travel Channel all the time! :goodvibes

Sounds like it is time for another trip to the point. We haven't been in a few years, use to go every year. We are only about a 3 hr :drive: away. :)
