We may get to go to Cedar Point in Ohio this summer. I have been looking at the web site and the hotels that are "on-site". Has anyone had any experience with these hotels? They have vary different reviews, from great to horrible and they are pretty pricey. I trust my fellow Disers! So if you have been to the park and/or stayed at one of the Point Hotels can you give me a little direction please! Is it worth it to stay at one of the choice hotels to get in early? To walk to the park? If so WHICH ONE? If not where is good off site? Thanks very much!!!!! :teeth:

Breakers Express is a lower cost onsite option. However, this is a more basic room and you do NEED a car to get to the park (too far to walk). It is a pretty basic hotel room, but there is a pool, interior hallways, and a small food cart to purchase breakfast items from. (there is a Pizza buffet and a McDonalds nearby)

We've gotten rates as low as $70 per night. The 1/2 hour early entry is very very helpful. You can at least get in line, and possibly ride Top Thrill or at least be at the loading platform when the "regular non onsite crowd" comes in. Or you could get one possibly two rides on Millenium.

I've also stayed at the older breakers, but that was a long time ago.

Do you know anything about the Hampton Inn? That was the other option I was looking at since we can get points with HHonors. I can see where EE would be helpful though. I saw several reviews of the Breakers and the Sandcastle that were really bad. For $200+ a night I don't want old and not well maintained. I will look at the Breakers Express. Are there any discounts for these hotels? I could find nothing today! Thanks for your help.

OH one last one, How does the park compare to Disney? Or is it more like Six Flags? Thanks much!

Can't compare CP to Disney since I haven't been there since I was 6. But, CP is more like a 6-flags park but with a lot more rides and roller coasters. Several of the top-rated coasters are there. It's a very nice, clean park though. Of course, I haven't been to CP in 6 years. Hoping to go sometime this summer too. Last time we stayed at the Breakers and it was nice. Just a short little walk to the park. We stayed in the newer part (called the Tower, I think). I've heard the old part is not nice. Check out this site. I haven't looked at it much, so I don't know how helpful it is.

We've stayed at the Breakers once a summer for the last 3 years and we really enjoy it. The last two times, I splurged and got a suite with a lake view and a balcony since dd was bringing a friend and we needed a little more room. The first time we were in the old part of the hotel and while it was a little more rundown, it was less expensive and our room was clean. We also had a great view of some of the coasters. DD and her friend pulled chairs up to the window and watched for hours.

It's a short walk to the park and we like the convenience. There's a TGIFriday's with a limited menu inside the hotel which was good but very crowded at mealtimes.

Cedar Point is one of our favorite parks and we'll be heading there again sometime this summer, I'm sure. We usually go in late May/early June and the park isn't as busy but unfortunately, I think we have too much going on at that time this year. To us, the Breakers is worth the price for the convenience of being able to go back to your room at the hot part of the day.

I have stayed at Breakers and while it is sticker shock I did love the location. I also loved the "beach" part of the hotel, very cool! We only did 1 night so we stayed there. It was worth the 2 rides on M Force to stay onsite for me.
The hotel is nothing special, it does need work.

Stay onsite. Its much better for the 1/2 hour early onsite. Breakers Express is a great option for us.

If you are staying at Breakers pay the extra for a tower room. I stayed in the old part, where there are no elevators and they are in serious need of a refurb. It's a nice hotel and the convience can't be beat.

We stayed at the Breakers last summer for 3 nights and paid $235/night. What a disapointment! The rooms are really worn out. Kind of reminds me of an old motel you'd find on any highway exit. Really surprising, because for that $$$, we're used to Disney quality resorts. The whole hotel, including TGIFridays also had a wet, swimsuit smell. I know it's on a lake, but the smell was really unusual. We asked for a new room and were moved to a new room that honestly was not much better. Good luck in your choice, though. This was our first time there, and I'm not familiar with the other hotels in the area, so I wish I had other options for you. The park, especially the roller coasters, was awsome. You'll have a blast, just don't expect ::MickeyMo !

Thanks everyone! For those that have stayed at Express, was it a long drive in? Has anyone stayed at the Lighthouse Point in the cabins? They look pretty nice, sort of remind me of Ft. Wilderness. They are in the RV park. I know we'll wish we had our camper but since this trip is starting out at a hockey touriment in Toronto that isn't really an option!

Has anyone taken a small child to Cedar Point? I know DS 12 will love it but from the web site it didn't look like too much for DD 5. I couldn't find anything that we could all do together either. How long do we need to see the whole park? 2 days? 3 days? Thanks again! :teeth:
