I remember when the Cdn Dollar was worth more than the US! Now that's what I called Buying Power!LOL

Holy Cow Scratch!!!!
Can you tell us about black and white ONLY tv, and bet you were even around for a few of the Leaf Stanley Cup wins too!!!!

Cheers,
Grumbo ;)

How about B&W TV with Rabbit Ear anteannas-no cable, Leafs winning the Stanley cup multiple times, Learning key punching instead of computer operations, No cell phones (OMG!)......the list goes on and on.....
No MGM, No AK, just a couple of WDW resorts...

and guess what-I was born in the 60's!!! As long as I can go to WDW I will never be old!

I vividly remember the first time I ever saw a coloured TV. My uncle had one and we made a special trip over to see this incredible machine. We couldn't believe our eyes. Did we have speed bikes in the 60's? I also remember our first microwave. Awe inspiring appliance it was. VCR's--how did we get along without taping our soaps everyday. Our kids will also never know what it was like to get your hand caught in the ringer washing machine.

Oh yeah the dollar seems to be slipping a bit today. Do I buy or don't I buy??? Do banks have better rates when you buy thousands of dollars at a time? Anyone know?

I think they do but the threshold might be pretty high before a better rate kicks in. At my bank (BMO), I think I was told that it was at $100,000.

Don't know about other banks but RBC has different rate starting at $500 then at $1000. Also they have a better rate if you transfer from a cdn acct to US acct (rather than receiving cash or TCs).

Wrt to BMO, I was tranferring quite a bit more than $1,000 so it may very well be that they have similar "low" thresholds as well. The only one that the clerk mentioned was the one at $100,000 (and, of course, I was a long, long way from that one.)

I work at BMO, and although it has been a LONG time since I was in a branch, I am pretty sure the rates are from $0 - $24 999 and then go up as mentioned in increments. It is defiantely true that you do get a slightly better rate for transferring from one account to another rather than taking out cash or TCs - there is less overhead (almost none) for a tsf, while keeping cash and TCs on hand has a cost associated with it (ie cost of transporting, cost to keep it on hand etc.)

I just asked my TA to put $1000 USD towards my February vacation on my Mastercard. I don't know what the exchange will be, however I figure it has to be OK as in general the dollar has been doing well for a while now. If I only had more $$ I would tsf to our US account to try and start saving for our spending $$.

Hopefully the good run on the dollar will continue up to and past the US election in Nov.

DutchsMommy-do you know what the surcharge percentage for your mastercard is? Most are between 1.5-2.5% of the purchase price of the foreign exchg item. (Mine is 2%-I'm trying to find one that's less and change over for my U.S. transactions).

I just checked this morning and it is 79.6 cents!!!! WOW that is the highest I have seen a long time!
Do you experts think it will hit 80 cents (or more) any time soon.... ?

That is 1.25 if you are going the other way

yes, it's trading lower again late today (1.25), that should mean that Monday's rate will be even lower. Have fun tomorrow momrules!

An econimist this morning claims that the dollar will be at par in 18 mos. I live in hope but not expectation.
