CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Look at it a different way. Complications are but one thing to look at.

Your age doesn't necessarily play a role but I would agree on the diabetic part for you (irrespective of age that medical condition can affect on the covid situation), your wife's aunt's age is sorta at the cut off but many chemo patients have immunocompromised immune systems such that vaccines typically are closely monitored AND those individuals will usually take precautions to reduce exposure because of their immune systems. That 16 year old daughter her age shouldn't be the reason you look at it but look at the fact that she's a lifeguard who has to by the very nature of her job being in close proximity to people. Have you ever watched Live Rescue? Recently this season Honolulu joined up. Their lifeguards don't wear masks because they are in and out of the water (or have to be at a moment's notice) and they know they take on a risk being close to people. Their job means social distancing has to be able to be abandoned at a moment's notice. Your wife's 35 year old cousin their age doesn't matter much but they take care of a person. Who would take care of that person's mother if they were to get sick? Their mother relies on them.

So ya know the thing we all need to keep in mind is there isn't one way to see this thru. Vaccine envy is a real thing and while I know there are some gray areas that seem to be head scratchers (and honestly don't disagree with some of that) I've thought it very interesting the mental gymnastics people try to rationalize for why so and so shouldn't be eligible for a vaccine over someone else.
This this this. I know it’s frustrating but I just want needles in arms. I don’t care if I “should” qualify before most of the people I know who have gotten them. I really don’t. I’ve been an advocate for the younger folks getting them because they’re the ones out there and they’re the ones likely to bring it home to vulnerable people. Loophole or not, if you can get it, GET IT. I can’t wait for my turn but I celebrate every person vaccinated no matter who they are.

Time will tell. Someone has to go first and many people will think the first one is always too soon.

I totally get it, and agree. I think this kind of indoor event, packed with (likely) unmasked screaming fans....is the wrong kind of "first" if that makes sense. There's a better way to do this. We seem determined to make it more difficult than it needs to be.

I listened to The Daily podcast yesterday and it covered a NYT reporter who lives and reports on Israel. She reported on doing something she hadn't done in years.....she went to a concert. She described the excitement and joy that was in the air. I had goosebumps just listening to her. I can not wait to do this! But....there were 500 people there, and they all had a "green code" on their phones....meaning, they were fully vaccinated.

I really don't know a heck of a lot about that WWE...or whatever it's called. But my thinking is that it's going to be largely an audience that skews male...likely younger to middle-aged men.....and most of them likely will not have been vaccinated yet. I just think it's the wrong event....too soon. But you're right....time will tell.

UFC and WWE are not the same thing. WWE's big event- WrestleMania- will take place outdoors with less than 50% capacity, masks, and social distancing.

Jacksonville still has a mask mandate though

Deja Vu of this time last year. Lock down in Italy. Spring break crowds in Florida. Refusing to wear masks. I wonder what the outcome would be.
Amazing how little people understand science, even though they think they do!!
It is simple. More unvaccinated people gathering ---} more variants of the same virus ---} less effectiveness of the vaccine that we think a lot of people are getting in the US ---} oops, cases are going up again!! Hope I am wrong, but for God's sake 550K people have died and we still have people who deny that this thing is real! If we could just sit still for a few months until more people are vaccinated, we can control this, but no, our freedom to party is more important.

I guess we can sit still forever.

I know you didn't reply to me. I certainly don't think we should or can sit still forever. But what is wrong with waiting another 30-45 days....to get possibly another 120 million shots in arms. Even with just one dose we now know that it provides serious antibodies. We have this far....why not hang on just a little longer if only to prevent cases from spiking next fall? We all know that cases will be very low this summer, but I don't think we'll really know how successful our vaccine roll-out has been until get to the fall/winter season of 2021/22.

I got an email to to be a vaccinator at a local organization in my town. So I called....they don't need me yet, not enough supply. I searched around looking for appointments here in NJ as if I have a preexisting condition....nothing, nada. But I think it'll get better soon enough. I just think that we've come this far...waiting a bit longer for big indoor gatherings would make a lot of sense.

Really? I never said forever! I said for a few months. We just started vaccinating people. At this rate, we would have been done by June. But no, let's open everything up 3 months before, see what happens.:sad2:

Fair enough...but the elderly- the people far more likely to get seriously ill- HAVE been vaccinated. 65% have gotten one shot. It will be over 80% by the time of this event. And many of the remaining 20% have already had Covid.

Did you read what I wrote? More variants can affect the vaccinated people. Available vaccines might not cover the new variants. Unless you want to get new vaccines every month to cover the new variants!

Time to move away from this thread! :(

Yeah but at this point the goal is to stop spread again, due to the variants, not just lower the burden on hospitals and the numbers dead.

The more the virus can jump around in people, the more likely mutations develop. And the more chance our vaccines lose that amazing efficiency.

In a way, we are back to the same place we were last year at this time. The goal RIGHT NOW is again, "stop the spread." But this time, it DOES have an end date which is literally until we get most adults vaccinated. So yeah, we need to hold on *just* a few more months, or else all the effort we have put in so far is wasted.

Partying over spring break like nothing ever happened is irresponsible right now.
