Well, they’re close already, probably next week or the week after. Changes to the tiers have been announced already as well, as vaccinations increase.

My point was that they’ll be allowed to reopen, not that they actually will reopen that day.

This doesn’t have much to do with vaccine distribution though, so to bring us on topic, my county has administered 1 million vaccines as of this week. Long way to go, but that’s pretty exciting! 20% of our population (including kids) have gotten at least one shot.

I mean it's great news that they even have a shot to open now that's for sure but yes it's not like a sure thing at this point. Reminds me of how school in-person has been handled like here's a date and if these conditions are met they are good to go.

I saw a story that gave this following criteria:
"Starting on April 1, California theme parks can reopen at 15% capacity in the red/substantial tier 2, 25% capacity in the orange/moderate tier 3 and 35% capacity in the least-restrictive yellow/minimal tier 4.

Theme park attendance will be limited to California residents. Updated guidelines will be worked out over the next couple of weeks in partnership with theme parks.'

It will be interesting what DL ends up doing as well as some of the other parks. Didn't SeaWorld San Diego just reopen last month as a zoo? Wonder if they will switch to the whole park if allowed?

They did, and they were open that way in the summer/fall before things went to heck in November. I’m not sure what their capacity/demand is as a zoo, so it’s possible they can sell more tickets now than they would at 15% as an amusement park.

I'm sure all these rules will keep changing though if the numbers continue in the right direction.

It’s not that the metrics will change for the tier. Actually the tiers become more forgiving as we vaccinate. They’ll be allowed to. It’s that Disneyland is unlikely to be ready to open April 1st.

I guesstimate they at least wait until their Taste of Disney is over.

But it’s finally worth being a CA resident during this pandemic! I do feel bad for out of state people, but man, we’ve earned this!

The US 7 day moving average has now dropped every day since the CDC said it was plateauing.

So why do Fauci and CDC keep saying we have plateaued? On the news with charts today saying how the US has plateaued. If it can be proven that that is false, why do they keep saying that?

Good question. The only answer I can come up with is to scare us into staying compliant with their rules. Because the numbers just are what they are.

See I look at this differently. Saying we have plateaued is not negative. With increasing vaccine numbers, masks, and people who have had the virus you have a real chance at some awkward form of herd immunity before you actually truly have herd immunity. Yes I'm excited and honestly I love your posts because they make me optimistic and happy

But if you lift mask mandates, what happens? Fauci isn't psychic, he has little evidence on how the variant behaves and his data is based on the current restrictions. He can only extrapolate when things start to change (lifting of mask restrictions in areas and variants) and this will be less accurate. Saying we plateaued makes sense to me.

Fauci has decades of experience behind him and I'm sure he has reasons for saying what he does that would take him a month to explain to me so I don't question him. I do question however whether the lifting of mask mandates was made by a team of doctors, or a team of politicians disregarding doctors.

His words "plateau" are just cautious and will have no impact on the spread of the virus. The lifting of a mask mandate in combination with a potentially not as effective vaccine *could* have a very real impact on the spread of the virus. I'm not saying it will, I'm hopeful and optimistic. But part of that optimism is based on the current data we have WITH the current restrictions. If the vaccines are less effective against the variant, the masks *could* be what hold us over until everyone is vaccinated. The dropping of cases you are seeing is WITH the current restrictions.

I'm just saying lifting restrictions is a pretty risky experiment when we are doing so well and we just need to wait a couple months before everyone who wants a vaccine can have one. Everyone hates masks (or at least indifferent). No one wants this. But after a year, I really don't get why waiting a few extra months is such a big deal.

Some people will just throw their hands up and say, "Its never going to end!" and do things they might have held off on otherwise if he/they said, "its still going down, we're almost there!". Even with 2.43 million shots, we have a long way to go with over 350 million people. Still, I feel we are def. going in the right direction. Am I concerned about some states lifting restrictions, yes I am.

I agree that it's a bad idea to drop the state mandates. I think it will take away any cover that it gave to small businesses that may want to continue to enforce mask mandates...etc. I also think it may backfire. If my state governor came out tomorrow and declared that our state was 100% open it would make me feel much less safe. I am not vaccinated yet and there is no way I would go indoors with people who are not masked. There are millions and millions of people just like me, and a bunch of them live in Texas. So, it may just push some people away from businesses until they are vaccinated and feel safe.

I think one of the reasons that Disney World is drawing people who are not vaccinated yet....is because they have handled mask compliance and physical distancing well. They are big enough to go against the grain with reference to the state where they operate, but smaller businesses will have a tougher time. I'm hoping that we continue to see cases drop and that this sort of "in-between" phase of.....it's safer, but not yet completely safe......goes by quickly.
