CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Yes. And clearly means maybe next week, maybe after next week.

If someone tells you your package will arrive “as soon as Wednesday”, you assume it might not be there until Thursday or Friday.

I'd start watching for it Wednesday and would be pretty upset if I still didn't have it Friday.

Okay, so some of it came this week, some next week, right?

Dude. Stop. Every state is given a delivery number EVERY WEEK by the federal government of how many vaccines they will get and from which manufacturer. They use this information to schedule vaccine appointments..

CA was promised 380,000 J&J doses TO BE DELIVERED THIS WEEK. Instead, they got 21,000 doses. Someone messed up. End of story.

CA was told to expect 2 million doses of JUST J&J by end of March. This is not a good start.

No. They weren’t. They were told “as soon as” this week. That is most definitely not a promise. That’s a “we will try”.

This is why we are where we are. The logistics is a mess. They should not be making delivery estimates that are so far off from reality.

In MO looking at just data rates a story advised 56,720 people are overdue for their 2nd doses. Overdue is defined as within the 21 or 28 day time period. Regardless of whether you can go longer as in the grace period that's the data point they are looking at.

But the information they more looked at was poverty rates: "Zip codes with poverty rates between 20% and 24.9% showed that 8.4% of vaccine recipients were overdue second doses, while zip codes with poverty rates of 25% or more had a 6.8% overdue rate — both are higher than the state average." The state average is mentioned as "Roughly one of every 16 Missouri residents — 6.5%"

The notation however is "the overdue percentage is half the rate of the national average and only reflects the rate for currently eligible tiers rather than the entire population." But regardless looks like maybe mobile units need to hook back around? The article did mention that they encountered people who seemed surprised they needed another dose. One of the organizations that goes into vulnerable communities did say "We're going to call each person and remind them of their appointment time prior to next week." good idea IMO.

I'm not thinking this is a BIG deal at the present moment but it can certainly highlight issues arises that may have not been thought about. IMO part of the correlation they are seeing could be related to jobs in which these people didn't have any opportunity to come in for their next dose (maybe they have multiple jobs who knows), they lacked the information maybe they don't have internet or whatever to know that these vaccines require 2 doses (which I would imagine you'll find people who have all the electronics in the world and didn't know), etc.

Curious mind in me wants to know if there are any stats on race and ethnicity because I know that was being targeted too just like vulnerable areas. That might be helpful to know if they need to beef up the information train in those pockets.

66,000 cases today, down from 75,000 last week. 7 day moving average continues to fall.

Cases on Wednesdays:

1/6: 264,000
1/13: 239,000
1/20: 191,000
1/27: 167,000
2/3: 115,000
2/10: 99,000
2/17: 73,000
2/24: 75,000 (slight bump likely due to Texas severely under reporting previous week)
3/3: 66,000

Good grief! This applies to all of my Amazon packages. Hope they weren't sent via FedEx! They are terrible!

Got my second shot this afternoon. Pfizer. So far so good. Shot hurt a little bit going in as opposed to the first shot that felt like nothing. It's been 7 hours and I THINK maybe just a wee bit of throat tightness, and my eyes are burning. Will see how the night progresses.

I admit I got a little teary eyed at the drive through vacc clinic. I thanked the healthcare workers profusely for all they are doing. It's a herculean undertaking and our little county has stepped up to the plate big time. I'm proud of them and very grateful.

I have to say, you are strangely defensive about this.

Maybe Newsom misunderstood. Maybe he misspoke. Maybe our news stations reported it wrong. Maybe there really was a missed promise. Why do you insist on continuing to argue with people WHO LIVE IN THIS STATE? When there are 3 of us all saying the same thing? What do you gain from it?

I think we listen way too much to promises. Comments aren't often genuine. They've earned a degree in being vague. This makes it more difficult to hold them accountable

Agreed. Which is why I fail to see why it’s so hard to believe it was said the way 3 of us who live here say it was. Even if it’s not what was meant. And I still find it odd that somebody who doesn’t live here and I believe doesn’t work for J&J is so defensive about it.

I don’t want to speak for @DLgal but I think it just adds to the frustration of vaccine roll out here. We were told yesterday Sutter is cancelling 90,000 appts (many second doses) because there is no supply.

So while I want to believe that we’ll all have our turn by the end of May, CA continues to let us down. Whether that’s because they’re not getting the correct info, because their own planning/roll out sucks or both, it’s like one step forward, two steps back around here. I just don’t want to get my hopes up anymore.

I am NOT saying I know more than people who live there. In fact, let me be totally clear: I do not know more than those of you who live there.

I am saying one thing and only one thing: JNJ never promised to have all those doses here this week and the state never said they did, That's it. Have all the negativity you want, but don't use examples to justify that negativity that aren't true.

Today my husband's good friend and long-time co-worker is getting his vaccine. He's our age...53, and does have mild hypertension. He and his wife have eight kids, so that's kind of understandable ;). He does have to drive about 70 miles to one of the Mega-Vaccine sites to get it, but he's the first person we know who is getting the vaccine in our age group.

I haven't even started to try and look for DH and I. I know I could probably find a slot if I called in a favor....and trust me, I know people are doing this, but we're patiently waiting. I don't think we'll get our shot in March, but maybe in April, which would be great.

Lately, as we're having the occasional warm day here in NJ (50s/sunny...everything is relative ;).....the enormity of this entire year is hitting me. I guess because we're coming up on the anniversary of our lockdown here in NJ....March 20th. Yes, we've lost some income from my business, but we are the lucky ones. We had a nice, safe and comfortable home to shelter us. We had plenty of food to sustain us. I started out this whole year as a pretty good cook....now I'm definitely good. I fell in love with gardening again and already looking forward to getting my spring garden going in the next few weeks.

And still, looking back at the positives....finding those silver linings, it has been an experience that I know none of us will forget for the remainder of our lives, even us lucky ones.

That’s a lovely post.
