I got a call from the health department on my reservation yesterday. Friday I get to drive 4 hours up to the rez to get my vaccine. With how badly the distribution has been managed in WI I'm ecstatic.

The 66% of Americans who want the vaccine will have it by April, I would bet. The statement was that by May we would have vaccines for every adult. Don’t forget that 1 out of 3 say they won’t get the vaccine. My state has said that 50 and over will be able to get the vaccine starting March 21.

My expectation is by the summer still. We start vaccinating 55+ tomorrow here in AZ. It's taken us a while to get here. I'm hoping for 45+ by April/May.

Yeah but I kinda go back to the whole statement of anyone who wants it by April which is the statement that launched the prior discussion. The U.S. isn't projecting based on surveys.

It's not aimed at you at all just bouncing off your comment but we can't just decide a statement means something else later if something ends up being different especially when a discussion was occurring where people were talking about the statement taken at face value. It's not the first time though in this thread where conversations were altered and a viewpoint tweaked simply to suit the outcome when some update happened.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has told the CDC they do NOT recommend going by age brackets for eligibility beyond what has been done with 65 and up.

"The approach is inherently unfair to minorities, committee members said, because they have a lower life-expectancy and because people of color are dying of COVID-19 at younger ages than white Americans – even in their 30s, 40s and 50s."

Really? Here in Indiana they are not letting them go to waste and putting them in arms at the end of the day to whomever they can. They do try to call the waitlist first and prioritize groups based on groups who are already eligible, but at the end of the day they will put in any arm that needs one.

My husband and I were able to get our vaccinations this way. I called every Walgreens in a 45 minute radius and asked to be put on the “no waste” protocol list. When they call you, you must be able to be there quick. One Walgreens had Moderna and the other Pfizer. One Walgreens, had one more dose left while we were there and I heard the pharm tech offer it to a person picking up their prescription. Her lucky day! This how I understand it works - please don’t tar and feather me if I am wrong. A vial of vaccine holds a certain amount of doses. Once that vial is opened, the clock starts ticking as it expires within a number of hours. If an a person does not show or last minute cancels their appointment, that allocated dose still needs to be used or it will be wasted. Since the clock is ticking at this point, the pharmacy would rather give it to someone than waste it. The “no waste” waitlist is for people that are able to get to the pharmacy fast - within 45 -30 minutes. One pharmacy gave us 45 minutes and the other 30 minutes. Not all pharmacies have a waitlist so ymmv.
Update - I also was on on the waitlist at my county health department for any leftover vaccine. I really did not have much hope for this one but they just called me. So wonders never cease. Obviously, I don’t need it need now but just wanted to let folks know to try their local health depts too.

I pointed out the other day that the big market move on Monday was likely due to the overall mentality in America fundamentally changing about where we are with Covid.

Anecdotally, I'm hearing/seeing lots of optimism. I have had my first few families book summer travel. I have an older couple out of town this week....seniors no less, who both have been vaccinated and waited until it was safe. Every day I'm hearing of people who are getting appointments for their first vaccine. All four of our parents have their first doses on board. Lots of green shoots from my perspective.

While I don't yet think we have the details, I read they expect to be released Thursday, what I'm reading isn't that you can gather indoors without masks. What I saw was the likely advice being "state that people who have been fully vaccinated can gather in small groups indoors without wearing masks"

If that's the case consider that small groups indoors is so very far from gather indoors without masks. IF it's small groups indoors they likely are targeting the criticism towards grandparents and the like seeing their grandkids or similar such cases. IF it's small groups indoors it would not mean go to a party or indoor concert or event or Walmart for that matter without your masks. IF it's small groups indoors let's all hope that people don't just listen to what they want to hear such that your quote reflects. But we'll have to wait and see what they advise.

Yes you are probably right that they are directing it towards small family gatherings indoors.
