CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

I'm not sure when it became that everyone thought the vaccine would end up making it so none of us ever got infected by Covid again. Some people will be infected.

It's to make sure if we do get sick, our body's immune response can fight it. Either fight it with no symptoms at all or if we do get symptoms, mild to moderate and not requiring hospitalization. And that's a GREAT outcome.

And if it turns out the vaccines actually do stop all people from ever becoming infected at all? Bonus!

That's right...I expect at some point, most of us will get it. But hopefully with the vaccine, and some kind of therapeutic like Tamiflu....it'll be a 1-3 day crappy experience instead of a debilitating illness, or...death. And I really won't feel comfortable being out and about in public indoors and maskless..until I at least know that I've done all that I can do to minimize spreading this virus to someone who will die from it.

Even though I get the flu vaccine every year, whenever we travel internationally I always bring Tamiflu and a Z-pack...just to be sure. I'm hopeful that we'll get a Covid version of tamiflu.....a medication to at least diminish the symptoms and decrease the length of illness. Once DH and I get that sweet vaccine...I'm not sure where we're going....but we're going somewhere!

The vaccine will be offered to Gitmo prisoners next week.

I am not making this up.
JMO, I don't think this is a helpful rabbit hole for this thread.
I think it's reasonable to vaccinate
all working at at Gitmo. Adding in prisoners will reduce risk of spread (or severe disease) for everyone there.

Before everyone here’s elderly parents have their chance? No.

A few months ago if we heard that a vaccine would reduce hospitalizations and deaths by 100% after 30 days, we would all be dancing for joy.

As far as prisoners and vaccines are concerned, it’s complicated. Perhaps J&J is a good option? Low cost. Easy to store. One dose.

Yeah definitely not the place to discuss this, deep rabbit hole there that the thread doesn’t need.

I was able to get my grandfather an appointment in NY online. The site froze up multiple times and the availability isn’t until 3/24, but at least I have something on the books for him now. He’s holding out hope his Dr’s office will have a supply before then, but at least I have a fallback for him if he doesn’t get it before 3/24. Now to keep stalking the site to see if earlier appointments open up. Next up is looking for appointments for my Dad here in FL.

I'm taking my dad to the University Mall on Fowler this morning for his second shot. I was able to get appointment for my parents in Hillsborough and for my in-laws in Pinellas without too much trouble. We live in Manatee and getting appointments there or Sarasota is next to impossible.

This is the site that Hillsborough and Pinellas use for scheduling appointments.

Even if we can get a majority of the US population inoculated, the lower efficacy to other strains means we need to get the rest of the world, particularly those populations with lower access, vaccinated as quickly as possible.

Honestly, I think this will backfill what the other vaccines can't get to. I think this is the missing link to put all this mess behind us.
I agree. My DD was upset because she doesn’t qualify until May and hasn’t been home in almost a year. (If not for COVID she’d have visited at least a half dozen times) I keep saying, “the third vax is going to come out and we’ll start getting somewhere.” I don’t think it’s wishful thinking on my part. This is going to be the one that has the most impact IMO.

Fingers crossed for her! It's just such a trying time. My daughter was having a rough day back in December and I decided to drop everything and drive the 2 hours to go visit and take her for dinner. It's ridiculous that a decision like that could turn out to be life threatening (to me anyway, thankfully not her). Her brother lives in the same town but they are trying hard not to get together either since they both have their own small degrees of exposure. Everyone's coping mechanisms have been on hold for a year and it's just so hard to keep holding out for the fix.

Thank you. We take turns talking each other down. We’re an extremely close family so it’s been hard. I cannot wait to hug her. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later for all of us.
