CDC lifts 14 day quarantine when travelling to other countries

Good news for a change. Baby steps. It will be interesting to see how the individual states handle i.e if they make any changes to current travel policies.

That's assuming that other countries will let us in in the first place.

Certainly, having somewhere to go is the next piece of it. The state department still lists the Bahamas as a level 3 travel alert (highly advise you not to go). The Bahamas themselves still require a quarantine. As I said, it's not all over and this is not a "go crazy and set sail" pass for CLIA from the CDC.

What it is however is a confirmation that at least one DCL ship that I am aware of was cleared by the CDC and now they are potentially allowed to bring people in and out of our boarders without requiring a quarantine. All of these are very slow baby steps in the right direction toward trying to reopen the cruise industry (and travel industry as a whole).

But they aren't letting us in, are they?

They are starting to. The Bahamas did lift the absolute barrier on US visitors. However, the requirements for travel are still too stiff (they require you to quarantine for 14 days).

I would predict the Bahamas to very quickly back off that stance and allow cruise ships to enter with valid covid tests. The ships would have plenty of time with the new rapid tests to give everyone leaving port a test and have the results prior to arriving at a port of call.

There are still problems to sort out. As I mentioned, the state departments still lists the Bahamas as a level 3 travail advisory. In addition, what if one (or more) people test positive on the ship? It could have spread to anyone before they let you out.

That said, it may be possible given the CDC's stance to - for example - open up Castaway Cay and require the people working the island to quarantine in 3 month shifts.

It was always just a recommendation - like masks and social distancing - versus, say, Canada still requiring a 14-day quarantine upon re-entry. The real restrictions are those on entry after visiting some of the listed countries/regions in the world - Bahamas is not on that list - and the no-sail order.

A better reflection of how close we might be is how the European cruise lines are restarting. The concept of a strict bubble... If we can successfully bring that concept across the pond and get a handful of ports to implement it, it could melt the ice.

First things first, Florida has to get its own virus spread under control. We aren't going anywhere until Florida gets healthy.
