Jeeze this GIF has taken on new significance in the past few days.
Lol. It really has!

This whole thread is a debate to be honest. Some people want the regulations gone, some don’t. Us chatting about it here isn’t going to affect anything. Maybe the mods should just lock it. The news was reported. Vaccines and testing are here for now and no one here knows when anything will change. Maybe we should just leave it at that.
It's like when your tell your spouse says "don't get angry when I tell you this" it has the opposite effect. Starting a sentence with "I don't mean this to be a debate"...but. Yeah sure, you didn't.

It’s a guest-to-guest gift exchange… like secret santa on Disney cruises. No point in getting into more detail seeing as how DCL doesn’t allow it any more.
oh fish extenders. got it i heard people talk about those. i didn't realize they weren't allowed anymore.

the way people were talking about it i thought FE was some reference to boarding or something. thank you!

I’m hoping the opposite. We have a transatlantic cruise coming up in may and another Disney cruise on Nov. I’m not sure we would cruise without the vaccine requirement at least for 12 and over.

While there are others that would agree with you , you are in the minority on that one. I lost count how many people locally I have know that have cancelled cruises for this summer or pushed back another year due to the vaccine mandate.

No, but it is a covered test.

Tests for travel have generally been at your own expense under the US health system
Once again California marches it's own drummer. We have a big free test site at the State Fair Ground, and a number of other locations. They don't ask why you want the test and they don't charge.

I was in NYC Feb 9-14 and mandates were still in place. They were checking vaccine cards as well. No cards no entry. Just about everywhere I went in the city mask mandates were strictly observed.

I do not think cold weather has anything to do with spread of the virus.

Not necessarily cold weather, but how people act in cold weather, does have to do with the spread of the virus. When it's cold outside, people spend more time indoors. Since the virus is airbone, it's easier to transmit from person to person in closed up houses/restaurants/etc. where people spend all their time. When it's warmer out people spend more time outdoors (where transmission risk is lower) and people have windows open, etc. for better ventilation. That's at least part of why we've seen spikes in the Midwest and Northeast in the winter, because everyone's trapped inside (with the virus).

Also, in general, viruses die off faster in higher humidity, so weather does play a direct role in that. Not sure that's been proven specifically with COVID-19, but viruses in general do behave that way (survive better in cold weather than in hot/humid conditions).

Why would that matter if you and your family are vax?

Although people who are vaccinated can get Covid they are much less likely to become seriously ill. If there is a larger percentage of people onboard who are unvaccinated and they become seriously ill that could affect how the whole ship operates. It could also be a challenge for ports if ships are turned away if their caseload is too high.

This is anecdotal and you can find the opposite is also true. We sailed on NCL where many people in the cruise group canceled after NCL said they were allowing unvaccinated children.

I am not sure there is really a way to quantify the number of people who have made or canceled cruises due to vaccination policies.

I’m guessing because you are 3-5x more likely to get Covid if unvaccinated. Therefore a ship will likely have more Covid on board if more unvaccinated people are on board (since testing won’t catch everything) making it more likely for everyone, including vaccinated, to contract it.

Frankly I’m shocked this thread hasn’t been locked!

It’s the kids vaccine mandates that have people cancelling more than adult. Vaccination rate for under 12 is very low, even in areas with high adult rate. Less than 28% of kids 5-11 are fully vaccinated.

I've been asking people this question for the last year and still haven't gotten an answer.
It's simple on a long sailing such as a transatlantic I want my fellow guests vaxxed to drastically lower the risk of many people needing treatment that puts stress on the ships medical facilities and risks ruining my vacation as the ship might detour or miss port stops. or be refushed dock. Granted I know heartattacks and strokes happen out of the blue to, but my many healthcare professional friends have seen enough covid cases that are many and severe within a small population that goes beyond your standard heart attack etc... Call me selfish, I want a cruise with no hiccups. I think we have all forgotten what the world was like before a vaxx when it comes to severe cases.

A few more posts like this and it will be.

I've been busy and zero reports to draw other eyes to it. Last I checked it was still mild, seems like it took a nose dive since yesterday.
